  • i love playing this because my names jonathan!

    great movie BTW

  • I loved this movie and I still have the original movie poster framed and hanging in my livingroom.

  • I was 24 and living in Sausalito when this movie came out. I took the ferry into SF to see it one Saturday. I was so blown away, I made the trip again the next day and saw it again. It was almost as good as Clockwork Orange, which I had seen a few years earlier when I was at UT, Austin. I've never bothered to watch more than a few minutes of the 2002 version. The movies of the late 60's and early 70's are still, in my humble opinion, some of the best ever made. Like the music of that era.

  • ICE CREAM, ICE CREAM!

  • This is one of my all time favorite movies and this ending still gives me goosebumps as it did when I first saw it in theaters. Thanks for posting it. JONATHAN....JONATHAN....JONATHAN

  • music????

  • Haven't seen that since 1977, and I must admit it's put me in the mood to buy the DVD.

  • This ending gave me nightmares as a kid, and I thought Aliens was pretty tame at the age of 4.

You know why this scared me so much? It's the look on Caan's face in that last still shot... pure hatred. The guy looks like he's about to channel Satan.

  • OC-CU-PY! OC-CU-PY! OC-CU-PY OC-CU-PY! OC-CU-PY!

  • the remake was alot better but i like ll cool j so maybe thats part of the reason i liked it

  • @ZHAman99 "the remake was alot better" you have really shit taste in movies sir.

  • @ZHAman99 - BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... no. Just no.

  • @ZHAman99 WHAT?!!! That comment makes you about 18 years old, doesn't it? I mean, did you even take the time to watch this classic, the original? It's the fav ploy of the younger generation - make off-handed and completely nonsense comments when they think it's 'before their time' or 'old-hat'. No. I am in consensus with the other contributors who roundly berated you. The real unfortunate about all of this is that you will now decide NEVER to like this movie, but I sincerely hope not.

  • remake sucked was like a different movie with same name - i think they owe to the fans and bring out a propper remake .rollerball 2.

  • Great Movie, when realesed it waspresented as a SCi-Fi Movie, showing a world were Corporations rule, and the common individual is left aside , alienated by the entertaiment this brutal sport provides. Well we now leave on that era, Corporations rule the earth, Sports and reality shows numb peoples brains, all I ask is when is Johantan goin to appear? , Johnatan , Johnathan , weh need you man!!

  • @TheVetoSkreeemer

I saw the movie when it came out as a teenager. Now I understand! The movie was a prophecy!

  • @auldhickory Yup that is what good Sci-Fi does, some part of it at least. It Criticizes realty, to warn us of what things may become. Sadly, on this case the bad Guys won. Be well man.

  • @auldhickory A prophecy you say? You have to wonder back in 1975 they really meant the not-to-distant future for a "Corporate Society" was a bit earlier than 2016?

  • Great flick. The remake sucked.

  • I love these kind of endings. I found out about this movie through the remake so it left a bad taste in my mouth, too many movies nowadays are getting garbage remakes.

  • You Perform Rollerball Brilliantly- Bartholomew. You Can Be Stopped, You Hear Me.-Bartholomew

  • This movie was MADE for James Caan.Absolutely Badass.

  • Houston players come and go but the champion plays on.. Bartholomew..( John Houseman)

  • excellent movie with very dark undertone, not bad for 1975 they dont make movies like this today anymore :(

  • This game is supposed to be hel in the year 2018. So is not to far away but seeing the perspective of the movie i do not doubt this game will be accepted. For freedom and not to be kept in jail.

  • world class movie

  • THE CURSE OF SPEED RACER

  • PLANET Mars REPORT CARD @ Leddy Library @ University of Windsor @~19:55pm-EST MONDAY AUGUST 08 2011AD

  • To me the 70s are the decade with some of the best SciFi movies ever made, and Rollerball is an excellent example!!!

...the remake sucks so badly that all copies should be burned...

  • @critical242

Friend....You get a thumbs up from me.

  • I'm not usually one to do this, but I would like to have people check out the fan trailer of this move I made in the video responses. The views and subscriptions are not my priority. I'm planning on having a career in making movie trailers and I want peoples unbiased opinions on my work. I don't ask for empty praise or trolling, but please give your reasons for your opinion and most importantly, be honest. Thank you and please consider.

  • @moviemaster8510

    I commented :)

  • @moviemaster8510 I hope you do well....but, sort of sad. Movie trailers? That's like an ambition to be a pimp for a whorehouse full of AIDS-infested skanks. Movie trailers, for the most part, are cheats, scams, lies. Why not do something that is ACTUALLY CREATIVE and original, rather than pasting together bits of someone else's work? Why be a parasite? Take on this movie, and do a GOOD remake, or even make a computer game out of it. Do something worthwhile. Pimping sucks.

  • Watched it again tonight. Just a terrific film, and there's serious lessons in the movie about what really matters, and what really doesn't.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Based upon the original short story, "Rollerball Murder", by William Harrison, from his hardcover collection of the same name. I own a copy; find one if you can; the other stories, while not as powerful as this, are mostly quite good as well.

  • Comment removed

  • Game? This wasn't meant to be a game. NEVER!!!

  • I'm glad to see you younger generations have discovered the original RollerBall made in 1975. When this first came out in the theaters, it blew people away just like Bladerunner and Road Warrior then, much later The Matrix.

There's a lot of hidden meaning in this prophetic film about Fascism and world government.

    Share it with your friends.

  • James Caan was the Eric Lindros of our time.

  • no evil system can break the will and the inner strength of the individual. all ideologies are like stinky vampires, always work against true & real freedom.

  • JONATHAN! JONATHAN! JONATHAN!

  • i'd say the remake was too different to be called a remake, i see it as an entirely different film, with an ending no where near as gripping as this!

  • this movie is allegory for the NWO corporate interests crushing the life out of the individual.......but they couldnt succeed against.......JONATHON...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I snuck into the Plaza theater in West Nashville to see this movie with some friends. We were all roller skate crazed and thought violence on skates was the greatest thing there could be. I was only twelve but I got the point of the movie a lot better than my friends and never forgot it. I still roller skate and I still love this movie. The remake was a pathetic waste of everything involved.

  • @mduncan81 yup...the remake was a poor attempt to make everyone forget about the message this original movie sends....that the individual is very...very ...very powerful in the face of massive tyrannical corporate forces.

  • @craigalan100 The remake was a very poor attempt to cash in. They would have done better with Hooters Girls on skates.

  • This movie was based upon the short story "Rollerball Murder", from the collection of the same name by William Harrison. I own a copy of the original hardcover. Harrison covers more in this short story than most writers do in a novel. Read it, if you have the opportunity. Harrison's writing style was far ahead of his time.

  • bach sounds too depressing to be a victory song...makes it seem like a horror movie.

  • @Nsinger998 But it is a horror movie, at its core. The total control of man by the State. The character of Jonathan E triumphs over that.

  • 6 executives wanted to be Rollerballers when they were little.

  • FINALE DA BRIVIDO !!!

  • jonathan Jonathan JONathan JONATHAN JONATHAN JONATHAN JONATHAN

  • @OGPUN JOHNATHON JOHNATHON DER DER DER

  • Can you repost this at the proper aspect ratio? It loses some impact being squeezed like that.

If you can start it a little earlier & let the end music carry out.

    thanx

  • There's better acting, more suspense, superior camerawork, storytelling and powerful music in this 2:45 clip than in the entire 2002 remake. I'll grant that a video of a few shots of Rebecca Romijn from the newer movie might be interesting.

  • Great movie. Classic ending. To just praise the action sequences is like praising a book for the font. It's about individual freedom.

  • Glad....weeeeeell!!!!

  • i believe this was the first movie to have the names of the stuntmen appear in the final credits.

  • I LOVE ME

  • will someone upload this from start to finish?

    thanking you in advance

  • man i remember when i got my first vcr all me and my brothers did was fast forward to the three games!!!!!!the rest of the movue was boring

  • A FACT OF LIFE THAT CAN NOT BE TAKEN FROM US , FREDOME !

  • This movie reminds me FutureSport (1998) so much

  • @Magnolia296

Actually it is the other way around: Future Sports is a reminiscence of Rollerball.

  • GOODELL!!!! SIMMONS!!!!!!

  • It'd be cool to skate in/on that rink!

  • Only thing more suspenseful than this is waiting for the NFC West to win a game. Simmons.

  • How come no one has ever told me about this movie? This scene is incredible. SIMMONS!

  • i wish i knew the context of this scene since i haven't seen this movie. oh yeah and simmons.

  • @gregpeck1037

Jonathan E (James Caan) is the longest surviving player of Rollerball, a game created to keep the populace entertained and docile in a future corporate ruled setting.

As his popularity has grown, so too has the potential threat he poses to the corporations. No one was meant to play the game this long, or ever be as popular.

The rules of the game are changed on purpose, so that death becomes a more common sight, and hopefully for the Corporations, the death of Jonathan E...

  • @gregpeck1037

    Oh God!

You HAVE to see this movie!!

The opening scene is basically one big Rollerball game between Houston and Madrid. You get totally drawn in to believing this is a real sport. The massive set is real, the skating is real, the stunts are real. You will love it, no question!

  • @jazzx251

This (original) movie should be required viewing for every school child from 1st grade through graduation.

  • I equate "The Old Firm Derby" - a twice-annual Scottish football game between Glasgow's two top teams, Celtic and Rangers. Rivals for religious reasons that go back a LONG long time.

In this video I made, I used Bach's Toccatta (and Vanessa Mae's fugue!) to also represent how sport means so much more than just a bunch of men kicking/throwing a pig skin/metal ball into a goaL.

    Enjoy!

    watch?v=M8_fOLD1pAs

  • @Hiraghm well I saw this film in community college for political geography..my prof. was a very interesting person. He was also showing videos on the 'military industrial complex'..according to him, our govnt is dictated by "powerful corporate interest"

  • @jazzx251 yes you do. and please do not concern yourself with the remake.

    IMBECILE!

  • @djfakt i removed my commet, but can ask I what do you get out of insulting people on here all the time. If you were 14 or 15 you would have an excuse as to why you are a jerk, but you are 32. I am going to guess you have never had a girlfriend and you still live with your parents and that is why you have so much time on your hands to come on here and be an ass. I am going to guess that right now your in Parents basement looking at porn

  • Thanks Simmons!!

  • CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the hell was that all about..?

  • This movie is awesome it showed a world controlled by corporations , and a brutal game as an anesthetic to prevent independent thought. It is what we leave today, almost all over the world. A previous case was the Roman empire who had ists brutal circus to keep the masses in control. I dont believe that a Johnathan or a Maximus wil emerge, but rather than many barabarians are eager to take the place of a crumbling empire (maybe China , Russia or another one , or alla of them).

  • 2 faggots did not like this...

  • All the political comments are BS. Save it for CNN.COM, morons.

This was a kickass movie, with a message of personal victory.

  • Suave! G-damn Jonathan ...

  • That's right, @tritonrocks. Obama's trying to create a world just like the one in Rollerball. Or maybe the one in Total Recall. Or Terminator. For crying out loud.

  • @Bobalobashoobob Obama? More like the Tea Party crowd. They want all the corporations to control everything. Private prisons, private police where we have to pay for everything out of pocket. Sure there are no taxes, but what would happen if you had to pay a "service fee" every time you needed to call a cop? Pay tolls to drive your car on a road, ANY ROAD? This is the world the Tea Party wants!

  • One of the best sci-fi action movies ever made.

  • Love it ! lets go blow some trees up with a handgun.

  • @chets808 Handgun? It looked more like a flare gun to me.

  • jon-a-than,jon-a-than,jon-a-than...

  • Does the ending tell us the end has come for both RollerBall as well as the "Corporate Society"?.
