For someone whom is retired or disabled, and doesn't do much daily driving, watches their braking, and stays off the road between the hours of 12 - 4 AM...Snapshot will actually give you a 30% discount...For someone whom commutes to work a fair distance daily, and drives a lot during peak times, then one should know Snapshot is not for them, and not opt for it... They may also consider going with another insurance company...
what?! you cant drive between midnight and early morning. 1:10 wtf i have to work am i to walk to work? why would you let them see how you drive anyway? this is dumb
why would you let you insurance company monitor you in the first place? those fucks dont need to know any more about you than you allow them. i think its disgusting and very big brother. soon it will be a requirement for all drivers to be constantly monitored and you lose your freedom even more.
Yeh man i wouldn't want them to actually KNOW how many miles i drive... that's just asking for an increase. And the hard breaking? Cmon whats to say it doesn't trigger each time you break.
Switch to GEICO! I've NEVER heard of anyone in ga that pays more for them... Plus they are based in macon, so if you are unsatisfied... you can go speak to habeeb himself while you are on hold! lol.... i'm really kidding... been with geico for about two years now and i'm the most satisfied with them over all the insurance companies ive been with
No see you didn't get a discount due to hard breaking! It says that in your state you have to pay the $30 a policy term for the snapshot! like nero2077 said that accounts for your 6%! By the way 6% is not a bad increase thats like what, $6.00 depending on what your insurance already costs! It's not a scam if it was a scam they wouldn't be allowed to do it! Scams are illegal!
If you actually read the asterisk for Georgia, you'll find that you are charged $30 "technology expense" during each policy term that you participate in Snapshot -- that accounts for the 6% increase in your rate due to the Snapshot program. Since your driving didn't qualify you for a discount, end your participation in Snapshot and the $30 fee goes away. Poof.
@nero2077 Thanks for providing some insight into this. However as a consumer, I can only base on what I read in black and white. When you sign up, you are charged 'snapshot technology expense' of $28. My rate increase of 6% is not $28. On top of that, the customer rep I spoke to acknowledge that this is a rate increase and told me I will have to pay for the $28 on top if I continue. You may very well be correct, but nothing from Progressive has shown me otherwise. I appreciate your feedback.
@dial2fast Ooooh. Sorry for my somewhat strident tone, dial2fast. I was obviously wrong. And sorry about this bad deal that you've gotten, too. I just started snapshotting (snapshooting?) in Connecticut and hope that this doesn't come back to bite me. Thanks for posting the info.
I found it interesting that when looking at the chart of my driving I could see the same pattern Mon-Fri, inluding when I stop at the stop sign, when I was on the interstate, and so on. The charts for Mon-Fri were identical. The device would show irratic driving - many short trips at various times with very many stops & starts, and no consistent overall pattern - if the vehicle is used for, say, deliveries or courier service.
@dial2fast Yes, I would think if the devices were able to do damage there would have been many complaints by now. I actually like the program in theory but in actual practice it has flaws. It cannot show if someone is speeding, unless it registers speed of, say 80+. Also, I live in a rural area where raccoons, deer and other animals frequently necessitate hard braking. Hard braking in itself does not make one an unsafe driver; I've been driving since 6/74 with no accidents.
I'm the only driver, with 2 similar sedans. After 30 days I got a 30% discount on one car but nothing on the other. A week later one car's battery died. The other car's battery died 2 weeks later. Coinidence? What do you think?
@pawbiter Thanks for sharing your experience. I wouldn't think the device would consume power at all times. The car's OBD port shouldn't be on when ignition is off. It's possible just a coincidence if your car battery is 4-5 years old and needing replacement. Also winter temperature is hard on batteries too.
@dial2fast Many newer cars keep the port on, and many cars have it powered but do not send data. The evo X for example keeps the port on for at least 15 minutes after shutoff and will turn it on again if any event happens (door unlock, door open, etc etc).
@ShaddyJay You should. I'm tired of seeing this shitty commercial on TV when everyone knows it's an obvious scam and a way to make you pay more money. This is why im a AAA user.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I recently called Progressive to ask a question about my policy and was offered to try the Snapshot program. I agreed. It came in the mail the other day and it's still in the box. Now, I'm contemplating if I should just mark the box return to sender, and send it back.
@creativeplanetjanet The main thing you need to find out is the Snapshot Program can't raise your rate in the State you live. Once you confirm that then you can try out the Snapshot program.
Interesting. I wonder if your rate was going to increase anyway? As many around the country have had there rates increase due to an increase in fraud. Did they tell you this was directly related to the snapshot program?
@mezzyempiesa The rate increase I showed here was directly from the Snapshot. I called Progressive and the Progressive customer service rep confirmed it telling me that Georgia (and maybe few other states) are allowed to raise the rates based on the Snapshot program.
Also the increase I showed in the vid is directly taken from the Snapshot Discount Program page. My insurance renewal isn't due for another 5 months.
This is pretty shady. I've had my own very bad experience with progressive about a claim - but that is another story.
Do you mind if I ask what kind of car you drive? I'm kind of curious of what your there-abouts total rate might be.
Thanks for the video!

how could anyone think that an insurance company giving you something to monitor your driving wouldn't take every opportunity to raise your rates?
pure stupidity if you thought they would lower your rates.
if someone offers you something for free...run the other way... it's only common sense
