He could have easily made a fire by rubbing sticks together and using the cotton like fibres from that seed pod to make the fire before the rain came BUT we've already seen him do that in a prior episode and also. When people get lost they're generally out bushwalking/camping so most people, regardless of whether they smoke cigarettes or not, have a lighter or matches with them. ^_^
you could get it at costworld it's a swedish firesteel scout cost about 7.50 pounds... i got the exact same model as he does.... get it at the outdoor stores.. these things are easy to come by...

i like how his survival techniques include building a fucking ladder out of bamboo just to cross a creek like who the fuck would take 4 hours of valuable time and calories to build a pathetic ladder that failed anyways? Or take time to climb a cliff edge just cause it looks fun...hes smart, but not practical...its all entertainment.
lol he does it to show the viewers how to act in a extreme survival situation...just cuz there may be another route down a cliff dosn't always mean you will have the easy option, sometimes you have to scale down cliffs to get to civilization and survive. plus bear specilized in rock climbing and survival when he was in the SAS, he uses his skills to its full advantage.
