This is too funny, and too close to the truth. Destroy an overpriced building and build a new one at the proper price; yes, they'd do very well in modern government.
When the BBC released this episode in the 70s on a vinyl LP supposedly complete, they removed references to Ray Ellington (who was, of course Black), as Black Rod and Black Watch. Early examples of political correctness, I suppose. They also excised comments about the washing outside No. 10 and Seagoon's butler having been a long time Russian spy inside No. 10. Perhaps the BBC felt those remarks politically sensitive. Secombe's ad lib about "....our lads in Korea" may also have been cut.
@36PH I believe most of those releases were of the copies made for international radio audiences. Not only did they remove parts because of politically sensitive issues, a lot of others outside the UK would not have understood what was really going on (myself in Australia included). They were considered "complete" because the musical interludes were not cut on these releases unlike what EMI had previously done on their releases.
I worked at Rex House, Admiralty on Lower Regent Street. London. In the 1950's. We had a tie line ( a direct phone line to the Admiralty in Scotland. ) A telephone operator , Rena Donaldson would always answer the line with. " Eccles here.. Der dee der dee dum dum. We would roar with laughter. It was so funny. We loved those silly shows.
love this stuff............dont think i write anything quite like it.. i do create stuff inspired by this, just learnig to get it on here (youtube) I was bought up on this.
I have a very nice picture of Spike modeling a new line of his thistle lined underwear....1980's i believe. It is in an 8x10 above my desk and it makes me smile everyday
The Goons were, and still are, a classic British comedy group. Spike was a comic genius who was never appreciated enough. I hope my close friend in Philadelphia enjoys this, as she loves Monty Python and Fawlty Towers.
what is this shit???

@36PH The references to Ellington being black are on the CD I think. It's all in good fun anyway, they never did it against his will.
