My goodness! Ive been looking for this forever. I saw the movie on TMC. I couldnt remember the name for the life of me. Thank you so much for posting this., Now I got to buy the movie
When B,K. was just a baby and his parents were in vaudeviLLe he feLL down some stairs and he just sat up as if nothing happened. Harry Huddini (sp?),the great magician was traveLing with them saw him faLL and said "That was a buster!" So that's how he got his name and became the first "BUSTER".
He had a background in vaudeville, joining his parents' act when he was only a baby. He learned as a child that the comedy went over much better when he didn't laugh or smile. Joe literally threw him around on stage, which is where he learned how to be so acrobatic and to take a fall without getting hurt. As for his routines and ideas - sheer genius.
i concure. Charlie was magic on screen but i haven't watched enough Buster Keaton vids to really give Buster much credit. i enjoy it! but i see a lot of Charlie Chaplin movement but maybe that was just the art form of miming too. all i know is when i watch Chaplin i am immediatly pulled in and blown away.
Ages ago. I once lived a couple of blocks away from an earlier house of his in the Larchmont area of Hollywood. I can hardly remember its address but I believe one of Valentino's homes was nearby as well. Most of that neighborhood's houses seem to date from the silent era. Visitors to Hollywood usually get mixed up in West Hollywood and the Hollywood/Highland section of town (a tourist trap) but the actual history lay eastbound of that. Being a silent movie nut I miss life in that area.
wow! Look t that precision of swinging a bottle on the rope!!!
From the fridge, catch into hand, toss back into fridge, back out into partner's hand- catch, toss back again , into the fridge again! An no cuts !!! All of that in ONE SINGLE shot! Oh shoo! Go try that trick!
actually johnny depp played a guy that idolized Buster Keaton and his work in The movie Benny and Joon. He actually does a really good job at imitating Buster!
