Asteroid 2005 YU55 Close Encounter with Earth 8 Nov 2011

@elmowantstokillu yes that was 8 Nov 2011 at around 21 UT, passed by Earth and left, but will pass us by more and more in future as you can see its orbit is cirss corssing that of Earth oribt, hopefully in each encounter pass us by safely...

@Swaggs303 of course not, dont blieive those advertising doomsday...this Asteroid came and passed us by safely, now on its way towards Mars orbit but it will be coming back after 1.22 Year but then it wont come this close as it did on the night of November the 8th..

@Sileosoltice yes now is in the vicinity of the Moon, but to see it one needs a very good telescope as its magnitude is about 11, so a telescope of 6" mirror is needed, I was able to see it with the telescope of Slooh observatory in Canary Island and they put live show on facebook, however it was not as spectacular as the images taken by NASA radio telescope and I have it as a new video response here (Asteroid 2005 YU55 first movie), or check out my channel new featured video.

@palis911 like kraigthorne pointed it out, nothing happen to the moon, the Moon face if you see it through a telescope is battered with craters of all sizes result of billions years of meteorite impact and some of the past ones are hug probabley asteroids 100 Kms in size that created what now called Maria. however big impacts may affect the rotation and direction of movement on any object they collide with, though these changes are minutes (very small), only sensitive equipment may notice it.

Marias actually huge imapcts craters that filled by lava caused by the imapct..the first billion year of history of solar system was characteristed by continous bombardment of the newly crated planets. remember the Moon itself is the child of one of such impacts, that shaped life forever.

@jeremycochran81671 I doubt one can see it with naked eye, as its magnitude may reach 11 or 10 (see 0:24 in the video), and the limiting magnitude for naked eye object is magnitude of 6, so one need binoculars or telescope to be able to see it, if know where to look for it in the constellation of Aquila on 8 Nov 2011 (3:18 in the video)..

But asteroids unlike comets are difficult to spot, because they just look like stars and unless one uses a CCD camera to actually see any changes over a short peroid of time. one may look right at them but never realize its an asteroid, comets however are obvious to spot from their tails.

@benyexweda Happy Birthday then, dont believe in doomsday conpiracy theory, this asteroid passes by Earth too close even closer than the Moon on your birthday, yet like all other objects do pass by unharmed hopefully, as they obey the laws of gravity as much the planets and the moons do, but the trouble some times get perturbed in their path on the long term and thats where following it orbit on a long term is necessary...

I didn't know about this meteor passing by so right now I'm a little creeped out.

Three nights ago I had a dream about tornados just about every where. Then I looked up and there it was a meteor coming from the sky falling to earth weird but I could see the shape of the rock too and a lion leaving a cage. Before my dream my mom, son and brother dreamed of meteors and a red planet coming to earth. What it all means. But I ask JESUS CHRIST for his protection and to be with us all now and forever.

Right with the asteriod YU55, flies above the elliptical place above earth, which said to be close to earth. Although such encounter, people believe it'll fly by, & if it does enter and exit our orbit. What's your thoughts on the consequences of the shift in the earth? Although it's not a planetary object, though the grav force is very small but there's alot of uncertainty about this object. Also, preparation which is being done as safety precaution which shows this thing is unpredictable.

@Mr5a5uk every NEO object passes by, can endanger Earth, thats the fact, may not be now but in the near of far future, the reason, these bodies tiny by planetary standards so their paths get perturbed continously on every encounter with every planet bodies on their way, that makes slight changes in the path and over time that adds up for good or bad. As for the shift in Earth, well even an Earthquake can make a shift but these are so minute, we can discard them all together, so no worries !!

@sharinggon456 Its orbital speed, of course this encounter perturb its orbit over time makes slight deviation to good or bad. but this Asteroid is given rate No 1 on Torino Impact Hazard Scale, meaing its qutie safe at least for the next 100 years !!

@XXXPopeBenedictXVI true but then the Arecibo Radio Telescope at Puerto Rico is giant enough for the job, with this telescope, the first radar mapping of Planet Venus at distance of some 43 Million Km was achieved even before the dawn of Space Age.

Also this Radar is responsible for bringing down this Asteroid's uncertainty by 50%, and now is rated as No 1 on Torino Impact Hazar Scale, and is said to be safe at least for the next 100 years !
