I bought a Condor armor plate carrier from CTD for the same price. I like it. I am putting L3+ 10x12 ESAPI plates in it and eventually some 3A soft armor panels so I don't have to wear my soft armor vest under this.
I bought two L3+ ESAPI plates for $230 on eBay. And I bought some attachments at Joe's Army Navy store (AR mag pouches and pistol mag pouches).
I've always wondered, If you are wearing one of those things full of live ammo and someone hits it with a bullet, would all that crap blow up and kill the guy wearing it?

@jzrdw What i would reccomend is having all the parts to turn your gun into a real gun, a normal mag release and all the parts you need to make 30 round magazines, if they arent assembled its not illegal, and it wont take to long to get it all together after WROL hits.

Civies can have body armor. It just costs an arm and a leg for anything that can stop a rifle round. Cheaperthandirt has $50 Czech flack vests in stock most of the time that'll stop most small pistol rounds.
im not experienced in miltiary and such in anyway, but the question has been eating away at me for days now. when you take a shot in the vest or watever and it hits you in maybe a magazine or something of the such. the bullets are filled with black powder so would they act like an explosive on your chest (kinda like the sherman tanks during wwii) or would it not act as a grenade on your chest?
@jabara83 Well modern cartridges are loaded with smokeless powder which (someone else correct me if I'm wrong) is more stable. So it wont explode unless hit on the primer. And even then the cartridge itself wouldnt explode. The projectile would leave the end but I doubt it would do much.

good review. of all the different molle vest designs i'm very partial to this model. too bad they don't make it anymore, so it's hard to find in the right color. you've got a good setup there.
I live in LA California and we can't have high cap magizines . I have a tactical mini 14 but we can't have pistol grips so it still has the regular stock on it because of the AW ban . I have about 12 ten round magizines and I was trying to look for a holder for them but I can only find holders for as small as 20 so were can I go to find some . By the way great video and 5 stars all the way . Mine just doesn't say it because my computer won't let me rate the video :) lol
you can get soft armor inserts and rifle plates from lots of places online without being LE or military.... you just need to search! if your not a felon most states have little or no restrictions.

At this moment on the 5.11 website, the "plate carrier vest" is on clearance for $24.99. I've looked around, and this appears to be the same "large plate carrier" Nutn has here. I guess they've changed the name?

The only thing that would worry me about wearing a vest like that is being mistaken for military and having people think I'm there to save the whole town. But, I guess I need to get training on how to read situations more clearly.
blackhawk makes a wide array of holsters im sure you can find one for you. i have 2 of them, the only one thats better in my opinion is safariland at twice the price or more.
I got the same blackwater pouches on clearance from botactical. I think it is hilarious how they are labeled "khaki" even on the packaging, when they are more of a vivid foliage green heh.

All 5.11 products are amazing. I have worn their pants, shirts, boots and used their pouches alot! They are durable and comfortable. I wear 5.11 pants and shirts for my Armed Security gig as well as have my tactical vest loaded with 5.11 pouches. All of it is very strong stuff. Believe me when i say this, I have to chase and fight with people in this stuff and it is strong.
5.11 pouches are awesome! Most of my mag, dump, and accessory pouches are 5.11. All of them are double stitched, with great velcro and MOLLE attachment methods.
These vests are $25 on the 5.11 website today. Not sure if it is on sale or what. I bought 3 in case there were on close out plus 3 belts for $13 a piece all less than $120 bucks! Thanks TnP!!
"Bullet proof me ". com is a good resource. They sell various armor products. Carriers, Plates, Soft Armor etc. Their site is a little sloppy, but they treat you right and in my mind the prices are fair. Its where I've purchases all my armor for work.
Sorry to turn this comments page into a forum, but does anyone have a recommended method of carrying shotgun shells on a MOLLE vest such as this one? Just wondering, any input much appreciated.
If I am not mistaken, either 5.11 or blackhawk make shotgun shell carriers that can be attached via MOLLE. I do not have any shotgun shell specific carriers on my vest, but I think I have seen them. Watch nutn's desert gunnery videos, I believe his son, tactical doodle, has a shotgun shell carrier/pouch on his vest.
Is it even possible for us civilians to get body armor? I haven't looked around. I'd firstly want it for a WROL situation such as what Nutnfancy talks about. And secondly in the event of an invasion where Militia would have to be called in.

How in the world do you use the plastic loops on the bottom of this plate carrier to attach it to a pistol or web belt? On normal crossdraw or molle vests its a built in velcro loop, are we supposed to use velcro straps from Lowes through the plastic loop instead?

i don't understand i can go to the store and by level 3a soft body armor vest but you cant buy 3a soft body plates for a plate carrier vest? I ended up going with the cross draw vest Nutnfancy more cost effective, besides i'm a broke college student right now i couldnt buy body armor anyway even if it was legal .
3a is a weave composite fabric that distributes shock and absorbs energy. That is why it is constricted as a fabric in a vest. Most plate carriers are designed to hold level 4 plates.What is interesting is that I believe the rifle plates ($200 each) are designed to work in conjunction with the composite weave armor and not as a stand alone solution.

I cant bite my tongue anymore when it comes to that holster on your chest plate. It looks unwieldy, and unsafe. That would drive me crazy trying to shoulder a rifle around that thing, and the draw of the handgun is an odd angle. Plus it looks like weapon retention during a fight would be a huge issue! Oh well, to each his own.

Nut makes a big safety mistake on this video. He has the pistol holster aimed at his chest. When he draws the pistol, there is a serious safety issue. The Proper placement of the holster is at an angle on your right side. Rooky move.
ok glennwih 1. dude be wearing armor 2. nutn is not making a mistake IN video seeing as he (probably) check to make sure the weapon was clear. also he may not chamber a round until after he pulls for it. some people (myself included) don't like wearing a holster on there hip or on a thigh rig so its not your place to dis nutn or his choice of holster placement.
Well, I see your points. However, I am a former Primary Marksmanship Instructor in the Marines. I know safety. Never use a holster that points the muzzle towards your body. Always try your best to aim it away. Combat and safe weapons don't mix. In combat, one must always be ready with weapons loaded.
There's always a compromise. Many CCW guys like their shoulder holsters. Some designs are better and some are worse in this regard, but with the muzzle to the back design, you'll likely point the pistol at your weak arm briefly during draw.
I don't see your gripe though: if you use the chest holster correctly, you're no more pointing the pistol at your chest than you would your thigh with the holster on the hip. A lot of guys have have put holes in their leg and foot. Best to be conscious of it

seems like a nice rig, great review. i'll probably have a similar setup with shotgun on one side and an AR-15 setup on the other. should work good when i cant afford those .223's but still wanna go shooting with the 12 gauge :)

SERPRA holsters suck balls, there are to many cops who shot them self, because under stress when they go to index there gun there fingure falls into the trigger well and then the squeeze and BOOM.
yea it is a training issue but under stress fear takes over. i would much rather stick to my blade-tech or Safariland or even raven then take my chance with a SERPA
Well I use a SERPA on a thigh drop plateform. Very low chance of me shooting myself unless I purposefully turn the barrel towards my thigh. I actually find out why it was jumbling around and I reattached it and it is very sturdy. I also use a SERPA belt stabilized on my CCW gun. Opinion noted.
MOLLE attached through a CQC SERPA thigh plate form. I actually found some play in the holster and the way I ran the webbing through. Now it isn't as wobbly.
You mean grab a SERPA for a USP compact and attach it to the thigh platform? Yes I too hate the universal nylon holsters. I do not like the retention straps they use. However I do like how SERPA complements the trigger control training everybody should be familiar with. Plus I have found thigh drops are not as sturdy using the nylon. I would imagine you could do it if you wanted.

Damn straight flyboy. I just got mine a few minutes ago from 5.11. Only thing that sticks is they only have black now, but I figure I can't complain cause you can't even get the crap quality ones at that price. Super awesome deal that 5.1 has goin on.

Its a honey comb pattern insert to further pad your sternum from being damaged.

@wkgm11 its a special plate that goes mid center mass and is designed to prevent the neutralization of the wearer.

At this moment on the 5.11 website, the "plate carrier vest" is on clearance for $24.99. I've looked around, and this appears to be the same "large plate carrier" Nutn has here. I guess they've changed the name?
It also seems LA police gear has it for $19.99 at time of writing.
If any of you are looking at getting this vest, looks like a good time to jump on it.

I have a buddy with the same exact vest. real big dude. fits him great. both shoulder straps and side straps are adjustable.

Would that pistol holster fit a Glock 19 or does it accommodate full sized weapons only?
The only thing that would worry me about wearing a vest like that is being mistaken for military and having people think I'm there to save the whole town. But, I guess I need to get training on how to read situations more clearly.

blackhawk makes a wide array of holsters im sure you can find one for you. i have 2 of them, the only one thats better in my opinion is safariland at twice the price or more.

I got the same blackwater pouches on clearance from botactical. I think it is hilarious how they are labeled "khaki" even on the packaging, when they are more of a vivid foliage green heh.

All 5.11 products are amazing. I have worn their pants, shirts, boots and used their pouches alot! They are durable and comfortable. I wear 5.11 pants and shirts for my Armed Security gig as well as have my tactical vest loaded with 5.11 pouches. All of it is very strong stuff. Believe me when i say this, I have to chase and fight with people in this stuff and it is strong.

5.11 pouches are awesome! Most of my mag, dump, and accessory pouches are 5.11. All of them are double stitched, with great velcro and MOLLE attachment methods.

i like them. not as good as say, Tactical Tailor, but still nice. I see no stitching flaws on mine, and they have yet to show any signs of wear
Granted i use them for airsoft, so they don' t endure the same stress they might from LE or Military folk

"Bullet proof me ". com is a good resource. They sell various armor products. Carriers, Plates, Soft Armor etc. Their site is a little sloppy, but they treat you right and in my mind the prices are fair. Its where I've purchases all my armor for work.

If I am not mistaken, either 5.11 or blackhawk make shotgun shell carriers that can be attached via MOLLE. I do not have any shotgun shell specific carriers on my vest, but I think I have seen them. Watch nutn's desert gunnery videos, I believe his son, tactical doodle, has a shotgun shell carrier/pouch on his vest.

Is it even possible for us civilians to get body armor? I haven't looked around. I'd firstly want it for a WROL situation such as what Nutnfancy talks about. And secondly in the event of an invasion where Militia would have to be called in.

A trench coat would kinda suck in the Alabama summer heat lol. We need 5.11 to come out with "Taclite Pro Duster".
How in the world do you use the plastic loops on the bottom of this plate carrier to attach it to a pistol or web belt? On normal crossdraw or molle vests its a built in velcro loop, are we supposed to use velcro straps from Lowes through the plastic loop instead?

i don't understand i can go to the store and by level 3a soft body armor vest but you cant buy 3a soft body plates for a plate carrier vest? I ended up going with the cross draw vest Nutnfancy more cost effective, besides i'm a broke college student right now i couldnt buy body armor anyway even if it was legal .

3a is a weave composite fabric that distributes shock and absorbs energy. That is why it is constricted as a fabric in a vest. Most plate carriers are designed to hold level 4 plates.What is interesting is that I believe the rifle plates ($200 each) are designed to work in conjunction with the composite weave armor and not as a stand alone solution.

ya im not in the army i just made it for out huntin i have been shot twice out huntin it wasnt fun ither time an always hade a arroow it a tree with in inch of me when it wasnt even the season for bows so i just use it as safty is all

well sry thats what i use i melt down alum around a 1/4 in of steel an then 1/2 in steel on the out side when its stil lhot an molds together an u can shot a 30-06 or a 416 at 400 yrs an its jsut go into the last peace of steel an thats with flm an armed shells i did alot of yrs of testen on it but i should use it after its been hit more then 1 time in 6 inches

I cant bite my tongue anymore when it comes to that holster on your chest plate. It looks unwieldy, and unsafe. That would drive me crazy trying to shoulder a rifle around that thing, and the draw of the handgun is an odd angle. Plus it looks like weapon retention during a fight would be a huge issue! Oh well, to each his own.
Any chance of a review on the drop leg 1911 SERPA Doodle was using awhile back?

Nut makes a big safety mistake on this video. He has the pistol holster aimed at his chest. When he draws the pistol, there is a serious safety issue. The Proper placement of the holster is at an angle on your right side. Rooky move.

ok glennwih 1. dude be wearing armor 2. nutn is not making a mistake IN video seeing as he (probably) check to make sure the weapon was clear. also he may not chamber a round until after he pulls for it. some people (myself included) don't like wearing a holster on there hip or on a thigh rig so its not your place to dis nutn or his choice of holster placement.

Well, I see your points. However, I am a former Primary Marksmanship Instructor in the Marines. I know safety. Never use a holster that points the muzzle towards your body. Always try your best to aim it away. Combat and safe weapons don't mix. In combat, one must always be ready with weapons loaded.

There's always a compromise. Many CCW guys like their shoulder holsters. Some designs are better and some are worse in this regard, but with the muzzle to the back design, you'll likely point the pistol at your weak arm briefly during draw.
I don't see your gripe though: if you use the chest holster correctly, you're no more pointing the pistol at your chest than you would your thigh with the holster on the hip. A lot of guys have have put holes in their leg and foot. Best to be conscious of it

seems like a nice rig, great review. i'll probably have a similar setup with shotgun on one side and an AR-15 setup on the other. should work good when i cant afford those .223's but still wanna go shooting with the 12 gauge :)

SERPRA holsters suck balls, there are to many cops who shot them self, because under stress when they go to index there gun there fingure falls into the trigger well and then the squeeze and BOOM.

Well I use a SERPA on a thigh drop plateform. Very low chance of me shooting myself unless I purposefully turn the barrel towards my thigh. I actually find out why it was jumbling around and I reattached it and it is very sturdy. I also use a SERPA belt stabilized on my CCW gun. Opinion noted.

MOLLE attached through a CQC SERPA thigh plate form. I actually found some play in the holster and the way I ran the webbing through. Now it isn't as wobbly.

You mean grab a SERPA for a USP compact and attach it to the thigh platform? Yes I too hate the universal nylon holsters. I do not like the retention straps they use. However I do like how SERPA complements the trigger control training everybody should be familiar with. Plus I have found thigh drops are not as sturdy using the nylon. I would imagine you could do it if you wanted.
