It could be the following: The larger leak is from Oil Rig Saratoga that was damaged by Hurricane Ike and started spewing oil in 2004. Taylor Energy has been spraying dispersants on this leak to sink the oil, the large plumes are from this rig, the Saratoga, which I repeat has been leaking since 2004.

President Obama has the power to kick BP out of there and bring the military in and they could stop this oil leak withing a week with a nuclear warhead,the russians did it back in the 70s and was very successful.Obama be a man for once and do what has to be done. @thisizporter Yes,and the New Madrid Fault line could be affected.Resulting in Earth Quakes up to Illinois, in a worst case scenario.A low yield nuke or hydrogen device could work, but the risk is both the fault line,the plates,and not igniting the Methane gas.The plumes are from cracks in the Earth's crust.This could suppress them,or blow them out.Many factors with this.The Russians did it 4 times,but on land.This is much different.

@hithur Radiation would be my only arguement at the moment. There was a military aircraft that lost an atom bomb off the shore of either it was the Carolina's or Georgia. You might ask them how they'd feel about an atom bomb going off nearby.

Supposedly it's leaking radiation into the water's. It was on the History Channel quite a long time ago.
