We have something like this in Los Angeles called a Tap card, except it totally sucks. You can only store extended passes on it, like a day pass a week pass or a monthly pass. This makes it pretty useless for me since I only take the metro occasionally...
The only thing wrong with the suica is you don't get any kind of discount for using one. Most IC cards around the world give you someform of discount for using them.
Washington DC's Metro system has the same thing. Its call a SmartTrip card. You can use it on the rail and bus. I think the New York rail system is getting one as well...
where can i actually get a suica card? i was in a study abroad program when i went and our professor provided us one. he mentioned shibuya but i don't know exactly where i'd go in a station and what stations actually provide them
The octopus card in Hongkong and EZ-link in Singapore are the card JR (Japan Railway) made an experiment in advance. All the technology is from Japan (Felica).
They have the exact same thing in Hong Kong, only it's called the octopus card. Trains, buses, groceries, vending machines, just about anything takes it. They're really cool. My local train system in my city is finally starting to integrate a similar thing. The future is now!
Nice video - makes me wish i were back there. Too bad you couldnt get the awesome Ebisu station jingle in. Is that station at the end Hamamatsucho? I went there every day.

@ Lucaboris: no we aren't getting the same system: do you see those annoying gates in the video. I don't.
Besides, your comment sounds like we should be happy with that chitcard....
