I have the reissue of this guitar. It's really good and versatile. Not saying its as good as this one, but they did a really good job with it. I'm kind of wanting a Jazzmaster, but not sure I can give up my tele. It's just a really good solid "does everything" guitar. Really cuts through a mix too.
its muffled because pickup select one is bridge pickup select 2 is neck pickup with tone control and pickup select three is neck pickup with tone cut to create a more jazzy tone for jazz rhythm tones
WHY all the dirty metal tones? These guitars excel at clean and distortion, but modern guitars don't work as well for clean. It was designed for picking country western twang, show it off!
@samjad1 the american 52 reissue that fender sells does have that tone rolled off in the neck, and it comes with an update kit for people that don't want that.
I love playing guitar, but theres on damn way I'm paying that much for one haha. 3g is the most I'd spend. I have a tele in the same color and I'm sure I'll stick with it for years to come.
What would you say is the reason why it sound so fat?? The Age? Is it possible to get this tone with a modern American Standard Tele? What an amazing tone!!
@Elimnio - have a look at the custom shop Nocasters - particular the early ones (Mid 1990s) - I've two of of them and they come as standard with that front pickup wiring - but i changed mine to "normal" and the other to a five-way... both sound fantastic and i've plenty of guitars including four LPs but I play the nocasters all the time - through a fender twin with a couple of peddles and they do EVERYTHING! - please try one at your local store..
@indrazor1 the fact is that not only those are high quality instruments but they have older woods and electronics (which makes them sound that killer) and some of them are also pieces of music history (52's teles, 54's strats or 59's lps)
@frettedamericana Your presentations are good but you have too much of that "yeah dude"....."sweet"....... fruity vibe going on.Just play and describe the instrument.
So I'm building a tele, and I'd like to emulate the tone of this guitar as best I can. Any suggestions on boutique pickups that have this kind of vib? My playing wouldn't ever justify buying an orignal. I'm trying to build my tele for some rockin funk stuff, and this is tonealicious!
I dare to say You're a lier, mr. Phil-x. I bought exacly the same Vintage 52 telecaster, and the switch setup is as follows: 1st position - Bridge pickup / 2nd position - Neck pickup (only) / 3dr position - Neck pickup through condensator. There is no position that two pickups are playing in parallel so your "best funky sound" is from the neck pickup alone. If you re-wire the guitar to use a standard switch setting you still have this sound in 3rd position (if you throw away the condensator).
@Jim6123 Sorry but this is very interesting! What's that system of condensator? This guitar is full of surprise! Third position you mean middle position? Thanx to light my darkness!
@TheBartsbart I'm sorry you feel that way, but our clients value their privacy and have the absolute right to it. Once a guitar is sold, the price it was sold for is private. If you want to know what the list price was, that we can divulge. But we will never publish the actual sold price.
@frettedamericana i dont understand, your not telling us the persons name, where they live or anything, just how much money an ANONYMOUS person we will never know bought it for. I dont think it matters and i dont think theyd care. Its just a price
@nymetsrock The price someone paid for a guitar is confidential. The person who bought the guitar is confidential. The ONLY information we will divulge is the list price. That is our policy.
@TheBartsbart I think your the cocksucker... this guy gets to play all sorts of the most badass guitars known to man, and you call him a cocksucker? I want to punch you in the cornea.
I am pretty much sure that on 1:22 "That beautiful tone in the middle" is the neck pickup and you do have it after changing the wiring. What you don't have right now is the combination of the two pups. Instead now you get the pup with the tone rolled off.
Forget selling guitars, you could just produce a Time/Life video series, "The Greatest Guitars in History". Just like these, but longer, in HD, through vintage amps. Narrated by Alec Baldwin. You'd make a killing ;-)
@intrsoul This store has material to do like a big documentary with all the guitars that influenced the music along the years, that would be freaking awesome
@toxicmonkey9991 It depends if the strat is American.. But in my opinion you should get the strat.. its probably the most versatile guitar ever. I've got an American Tele and i love it.
Good work sir, first off, but I have a question. You said in the video that this tele sounded really fat for a tele, and i hear that too, but that makes me wonder, what happened over the years to make a tele sound thinner? so much so that it has a reputation for being thin now.
Big fan of Phil X but I really think he should have laid off on the gain for this one, I would have loved to hear a few country influenced licks for a sense of its era.
I love how this guy doesn't shy away from really playing these guitars. I feel like most people who could afford them wouldn't play them, they'd just put them on a wall and look at them.
i have a strat and the neck is like playing sandpaper compared to the smoothness of the tele i tried the otherday! i really want one.. need the £££££ first haha
That DOES sound fat for a Telecaster. Sounds almost identical to one of the REALLY old Les Pauls, the ones with P-90s. Did it just get warmer with time?
I must agree with a few of the previous comments. If you have the distinct HONOR of holding much less playing one of these fine classic instruments, one should at least briefly demonstrate sounds ands chops from the same period, as an homage! Electric music preceded those chops and so did this instrument. Love to hear some slide on that thing though an old Deluxe, ever hear of a man called Muddy?
it sounds fat because of all the "distortion....the "magic of a telecaster is in the "bridge "pickup".. not the neck ...i dont get this "thing with the "neck pickup...
I would have to be one of those guys who made the tone variable on the neck pickup. Tele neck pickups can be really particular but when you finally find that perfect tele neck sound it's one of the best!
@gilad199 i must say if you cant see the extreme talent that Phil x posses, which you obviously dont have.
