  • From the accident on to his passing, I strongly cried my tears out. Teddy has changed the world as we know it, and has truly inspired my life. God bless you Teddy Pendergrass.

  • The dudes in the audience of Teddy's concerts look like "I rather be cutting grass right now".

  • @roblettinVa ,in regards to Teddy

  • Teddy was always my favourite as a young girl. My parents played his songs. When I look back at all the talented, awesome young black singers that have died so young is so tragic.

  • Harold Melvin who?????

  • OMG! i had no idea he passed away. RIP TEDDY BEAR!

  • that damn accident!!

  • RIP TEDDY BEAR.

  • I'm glad that at the end they mentioned Gerald Lavert, Luther, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, etc but can't nobody remember to mention the late, great Johnnie Taylor.

  • BITCH I SAID TURN EM OFF

  • Teddy was bad.

  • I disagree he was UNSUNG because of the paralyzation if it never happened imagine how much more he would put out more don't hate, it limited him.

  • RIP! Teddy Pendergrass! Love You.

  • Wow...this has taken me back to my child-hood remembering my mom playing Teddy at night...now I understand what was really going on in her room...this man was so damn attractive and sexy woo I see why women was throwing their panties on stage and his voice...girl! No word can describe that voice. RIP you were one of a kind!

  • @newme09able - wow me too very strong powerful voice!

  • @newme09able i just burst out laughing at your comment hahaaaaa! all these 20th century guys are so hot and smooth!

  • I have only bought one album in my life....Teddy Pendergrass.

Ok I bought tapes too LOL!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song at 21:38?

  • Teddy was so sexy.

  • TP had a fantastic career. I'm 48, and I remember when he was at the top of the charts. I hate to admit that I did not have a great appreciation for him until after he passed. I then got all the "Greatest Hits" compilations. Wow! I forgot all the hits he had. He was truly a great artist. I do not think he was "unsung." Unfortunately, the accident curtailed his greatness.

  • teddy had that fagg in his car when he had the accident , i guess he crossed over ....lol

  • great documentary thanks for posting!

  • teddy was an outstanding success,he was not unsung. good video on teddy p lets remember he was not unsung.

  • First of all it's Teddy pendergrass! (grethomory)

  • According to news accounts, Taneeka Watson was a man in women's clothing! We had heard for years that he was not interested in women. And of course we did not want to hear it. I was one week away from getting my silver teddy bear charm, when he had that accident.

  • @TheAdisah At the the time of the accident Tenika Watson had breast implants but she didnt have her penis removed , if you google her name u will see the actual picture of her and its the same one that was used in the paper at the time of the accident.. She was pretty to be what she was but if you look closely at the pic you can see some resemebelence of a man

  • Sounds like they should've did a Harold Melvin story.

  • @Genesyxx Harold Melvin was a coke head and a crook, not interested in any stories of him

  • 2/2 I actually thought the narrator was going to say he passed shortly after the accident. I had no idea bc he wasn't spoken about that much, compared to other greats such as Micheal, James Brown, Luther Vandross, etc .and Teddy passed after all them. The show might consider him unsung b/c, his continued success was snatched from under him and everyone didn't see the rest he had to offer.

  • Unsung.. Ppl basically moved on to find the next big thing or a replacement (according to the show). He didn't complete the projects he wanted or would have accomplished had it not been for the accident. I was born in 86' and wanted to learn so I watched this. I was so surprised to find out that he had died only 2 yrs ago. I've heard his hits, but not too much about him. 1/2...

  • Any 'Ol Heads from Philly remember his " Teddy Jeans?" fashion line??? lol

Very popular in our region at the time?

Jet Magazine showed a picture of the " Ladyboy" that was allegedly in the car with Teddy but all the Hustlers on the streets said that it was Turquoise Erving and that WHAT DJ Sonny Hopson had pulled her out because it was a caravan of cars on their way to Teddy's crib..

Other names were named but in those days ( Pre TMZ) they were NOT going to embarrass the Doc.. (Julius " Dr.

  • Dang, the heavenly choir must be on jam!

  • Am I the only one who was irritated by the interviewer who asked him, "How can you sing love songs from a wheelchair?" I would have been like, "BITCH with my vocal chords!" Ugh. That was a dumb and insensitive question but he handled it well.

  • Derelle Revis looks like Teddy P.

  • It always angers me when I watch some of these Unsung documentaries, and I learn that some of the fathers abandoned their families. I've seen at least three so far where the father left the mother and his children. Any man who would abandon his family is not a man at all.

  • Maybe after the accident he was considered unsung.....many people forgot teddy and wrote him off. They needed an Unsung special on him because of this factm just to tell the rest of the story.

  • Why is Teddy Pendergrast Unsung? I would never consider him that.

  • @grethomory First of all it's Teddy Pendergrass!

  • Teddy did an interview on Fresh Air, the NPR show with Terry Gross, and my goodness, that's a great interview. I'd always heard he had a horrible time after his accident, and he does address how he was feeling...it was very telling and quite moving

  • The title of this show sometimes does NOT warrant the subject

Definition of Unsung: A person who makes a substantive yet unrecognized contribution.

Teddy was NOT unsung, neither were the Spinners or the OJays! I was texting Tom Joyner about this because they were talking to the man who produces this show about having Sly Stone on Unsung...HE wasn't unsung either! I do think Deniece Williams, Minnie Ripperton, Billy Preston--yeah, them cats were unsung. Teddy OR the Blue Notes were not unsung

  • Whoever said Teddy was unsung; this is rubbish.

  • Musiq Soulchild should record the version of Wake Up Everybody he sung at the funeral. Teddy was the best no matter what nobody say and it took me a while to understand I am who i am. continue resting in peace

  • I love that song "In My Time". I remember first hearing it on New York Hot Tracks and I was just 8 years old at the time it just stayed with me all of my life. It's such a beautiful song and video.

  • Man this was very humbling and inspiring!!!!!

  • Teddy with the perm,...lol

  • Just watched this and the fact that they didn't even address the tranny/ gay/bi stuff is disappointing. Documentaries are supposed to be factual, whether people want to hear it or not. This show is great butI will take these episodes with a big grain of salt now as far as telling the facts.

  • @roblettinVa It say TV ONE not TMZ. No need to ramble on bout silly gossip.

  • Yes i laughed so hard at the wig comment... I see why the women loved teddy he was so damn fine, I'm even mesmerized by watching his perfomances and his interviews.. wow

  • I don't believe Lloyd mentioned a wig...I thought he said that Teddy could always grow a lot of hair, and that the straight hair was Teddy's own hair after going to have it straightened... I never thought it was a wig, and don't believe it is one. Lloyd said that Teddy was nicknamed "Rug" because he could grow hair, and he had come from the salon one day (meaning the Hair Salon)...not a wig.

  • ..anyway my parents loved this man, they told me they used to see him live everytime he came to houston in the 70's...so im pretty sure Teddy was playing when they created me..lol

  • god...you people are so insensative...

a transsexual woman is a woman...regardless of whatever is down there.

calling a transsexual woman a "dude" or "man" or whatever else pertaining to a man is very rude and disrespectful. Who gives a shit if Teddy was Bi-sexual or not, his music is timeless and amazing. Most of the people in the entertainment industry is atleast bi or gay, so shut the fuck up already.

  • @jovanna242 PARADISE IS FORBIDDED TO FAGS AND DYKES..GOD SAID ADAM AND EVE,AND GOD WORD NEVER CHANGED.A TRANSSEXUAL WAS BORN A MAN SO ITS A MAN NO MATTER HOW BAD YOU ARE ANYONE ELSE WANTS HIM TO BE A HER..IF U WASNT BORN WITH A PUSSY .YOU ARE A MAN..LIVE WITH IT

  • @dimpsey3 boy...you sure are ignorant.

  • Teddy's voice was awesome!! No more "Unsung" for me, I'm done crying. Tragedy srikes most artist it seems.....So sad.

  • As you all see... as talented as he was screwed in the business by a man less talented as himself. It goes on all the time. but God never sleeps. If you believe have Faith in your gifts..and humble yourself, you will prevail.

  • Johnny Gill is the obvious choice to play Teddy.

  • @mrsalane 1... You are soooooo right. I know some artists don't like when we compare them, but I always thought of Johnny as a young version of Teddy. Their style of singing is somewhat similar.

  • THIS WAS BEAUTIFULLY MADE, RIP TEDDY BEAR....

  • Johnny Gill should play Teddy.

  • He was a beautiful man. and what makes him even more beautiful he loved his children so much and they loved him and I love to see that..Yes I cried..by the way I would have loved to have been one of those ladies giving him a kiss..wow.. wonderful

  • Put that where u want it!!!!

  • Teddy said in his book "Truly Blessed" that he had no idea about the transsexual.

  • a tranny was sucking his dick. ew

  • One of the true "Soul Gods"..

  • They sugar coated this and left out the part him in the car accident with a transsexual performing.

  • Î realize music is the only platform where race plays no role, look how black and white women harmoniously share their fantasy for Teddy!

  • But Teddy Pendergrass was not UNSUNG. He was greatly appreciated then and now. Good show, but he was not unsung.

  • @2441883 they ment the group he was with was unsung..how many grammys did teddy win? harold melvin and the blue notes was unsung.and so was teddy tender-ass

  • @2441883 I agree...glad to see him getting his props but there are lesser known artists that they could have profiled

  • Thank You For Giving Us One Of Philadelphia's Proudest Moments!

Class Of Dobbins "76" Teddy! Are Still Madly In Love With You & Your Music!

    FaithAnsa

  • Yea, I have heard that Teddy was bi sexual. And I've believed it at times, and not so much, other times....in the end, my gut told me he was. But I don't believe women would've cared, if u wanna know the truth about it.

  • A lot of you all were young at the time when the accident happened. I had an uncle that worked T.S.O.P. (the sounds of Philadelphia) an a lot of artists both made an women are Bi-Sexual. The person in the car with Teddy was Flip Wilson's brother. Teddy was suppossedly getting 'serviced' if you all know what I mean. This didn't get out cause at the time it was taboo to bring stuff like that up. Didn't matter to me cause I loved his music, but not everyone can seperate the two. It's just how it is

  • @aldeb456 U have your facts all wrong.. the person that was in the car with teddy was a tranny name Tenika Watson.. do your research on her and you'll know

  • @juceecherry That's the only thing I have wrong? lol

  • @aldeb456 I apologize if i sounded a lil agressive :-) I just love me some Teddy

  • @juceecherry Nah, I hear you! Young people don't know, Teddy was the man back then!!!

  • @aldeb456 I was around 1 or 2 years old when he was doing his concerts, i wish i was old enough back then, i would've been chasing him all over the world LOL

  • I'm 43....and Teddy Pendergrass was my R Kelly back in the day. But in my opinion, Kelly cant touch Teddy P. His body of work with and after the Blue Notes is STAGGERING.

  • @MisterCrazyLegs Teddy P. is the man!!! But R. Kelly has tons of cuts, as well.

  • wooo them lips..lol

  • thank you manyek for putting the unsung episodes up. I am unable to get tv one...

  • Comment removed

  • With regards to the conversation about the alleged transexual being in Teddy's car at the time of the accident. I feel I must add my 2 cents..For one, I being a huge fan who respects the music this man has left us could care less. Secondly, why is everyone assuming he knew this person was not a biological woman?! Have you seen some of these "women"? Many look, talk, walk and act like the most feminine born female! So let's cut the brother some slack, he could have very well been fooled.

  • @kanuri Word on the street is that Juluis Erving wife's was in the car with Teddy....not sure if that's true or not...

  • @kanuri AMEN!! YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH....If PEOPLE would use the "2 Cents" GOD gave em...Maybe in the mist of driving Teddy P found out that HOMEGIRL was really a HOMEBOY & that's what caused the crash.!!! Trust and BELIEVE if he KNEW it was a DUDE in a DRESS...MAYBE THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT!!And if it was so that he was ATTRACTED TO THE SAME SEX OH WELL!IT BE LIKE THAT SOMETIMES! You are a BAD MAN when MEN & WOMEN Want YOU!!! No MATTER WHAT I'M STILL A HUGE FAN!

  • broke out a few tears near the end

  • R.I.P. Teddy... Without you i would've never been created. My Father sung your songs to my mom when he was fired up lol!!

  • What a voice. R.I.P. Teddy Bear.

  • R.I.P. Teddy Pendergrass.

Your MUSIC has truly touched my life. and will always be a part of me while living on this planet called earth.

    - ♫ ♫ Anthony Figgiani ♫ ♫

  • Only one man ever, with a voice so smooth! There will never be another as good as the one and only, Teddy Pendergrass

  • R.I.P Teddy

  • I NOTICED THAT THEY LEFT OUT THE PART ABOUT THE WOMAN IN THE CAR WITH HIM BEING A "DUDE"!!!!

  • @cellmate1 lol and they always will!

  • @rickames Tyrese sang come on and go with me on Lopez tonight. check that out if you haven't already. He did good. I hope that movie comes out too.

  • @ILuvMusic4real Yes i saw it on Lopez, funny i think i saw a woman crying. But i don't know if the younger generation know of Teddy, but they will know who he is it Tyresse plays him.

  • Teddy's perm with the whip! : )

  • 16:09 That woman is a gag, coming up on stage dancing with Teddy like that.

    Whoooo.......... Hot Lips! LMAO!

  • What does he mean by "pay them in peanuts"?

  • @whouwit24 little to no money

  • @whouwit24 chump change

  • he was adorable as a baby and very handsome as a man. he was actually born in south carolina kingstree

  • teddy had teddy jeans long before nelly had apple bottom

  • teddy was the man back in the day..lol

  • When I first heard Johnny Gill, right off the back , I thought of Teddy .

  • great coverage of the late teddy p.. now as far as the part of the story where he had the accident...i distinctively remember watchn tv back then and them sayn there was a transvestite traveling with him n the car...that story was like major when it happend and everyone was talkn about it quite a bit....personally myself, i feel everyone should be able to die with respect and dignity...whether that part of it was true or not, he was a huge success as an artist and a legend. R.I.P TEDDY BEAR

  • I see that they left out Teddy having a transvestite in his car when the accident occurred. I figured they would leave that out. When Eddie Murphy dies, I am sure that they will leave his episode out as well.

  • @knowledgeiswhatsup what transvestite? are you drunk or something because that sounds NOTHING like Teddy Pendergrass!!!

  • @PopCulture20: You must be young or your memory is short. I hear them for not including it, but it was only right to do it instead of acting like it did not happen. People know.

  • @knowledgeiswhatsup Well i was born in the late 80s but are you talking about?

  • @PopCulture20: He had a Transsexual in the car with him. They said the brakes failed but anything could have caused that accident. I guess this aspect of his life will forever remain a mystery unless that thing decides to speak. The individual in question is now know as Tenika Watson. I do not like to know, but damn, it is what was up! While Watson says they were just friends, you have to think about a rich, famous guy (Murphy) in expensive rides feeling the need to give a tranny a ride.

  • @PopCulture20: You know, just like Eddie, why did these guys have to take it upon themselves to give these trannies rides? If it were me and a woman or even a suspect female type thing asked ME for a ride and I did not want something else out of the deal and I was rich AND FAMOUS, I would have my driver give it a ride or give it cab fare! When men want to give women rides - well after 1AM (Murphy), then you know what's up. Eddie laughed his way out of it and Teddy just let it go.

  • @knowledgeiswhatsup

funny, but true and sad that TVOne would do this.

  • @knowledgeiswhatsup Right.

  • @knowledgeiswhatsup i guess they had to b/c there where so many rumors around that time.

  • @GAYDOLFSHITLER1969 okay i will cause i gotta get in.lol

  • @rickames we'll see.:-)

  • Thank you for posting this; I haven't been able to catch all of the series but thank you for bringing it here;

  • Legendary Teddy.

And that wig story had me rolling. LOL!

Lloyd Parks: "Man, you not going on stage like that are you?"

Teddy: " You don't like it? Awww man, ya'll crazy. This is the now, this is the thing."

  • @NostalgicRetroFan lmao... that was a fucked up hair piece..

  • Respond to this video... 5x Platinum - hot damn......

  • @NostalgicRetroFan 0_0 lmao!!

  • RIP Teddy!!

  • Wow. this really touched me. Thanx for posting this.

  • This was fun, by far the best of the series.

  • Why? Teddy why the wig? Why? lol:)) @3:59.

  • @porgynbess i was asking my self the same damn thing.

really scratching my head on that one!
