When I was a senior in 03', a fellow rookie percussionist and I played this song, this speed on 2 marimbas. We were so tired at the end but it took us half a year to learn to play. Its much harder than the piano version and yet still, even after playing it, I still love this version much better b/c all notes resonate much longer. Still one of my favorites til this day. ^_^

when i hear this, it makes me think of the 2nd to last fight with gilgamesh. Where he gets thrown into the abyss. He wonders where he is, and cant find anyhting familiar. Despair, endless daspair... Then he meets up with Bartz and the others. Forgetting who they are temporarily. He remembers his debt to them, and sacrifices himself to save them from necrophobe.

i had never heard this until i saw this vid, hehe. so i decided to get the sheet music and try to be as good as you--the hardest parts are the parallel fourths and for the some reason the decending chromatic quarter notes always get me--maybe because they're so harmonically thick. how did you master those difficulties? were you privately taught or did you teach yourself? awesome video in any case. keep it up--

Both, but I taught myself this song. I agree that the chromatic part is a little tricky sometimes, but you just have to practice it without giving it too much thought because your fingers know where the black keys are but sometimes thinking about it confuses your fingers, so it'd be better if your muscles remembered rather than your head.

Anyway... excellent playing, you've got perfect technique and enough natural dynamics to keep me interested without you looking like an idiot.

Problem is, whoever arranged this for piano has no idea how to do left hand accompaniment (re: 00:14, etc). Repeating middle C is a stupid idea when the right hand melody is two octaves above it. The variation at 2:05-2:10 is so much better.

you have to mess around with a piano by yourself, if you have one at home...find an easy song, find out the main melody by constantly replaying it and pressing keys, then fiddle with that for months and youll exercise your ability

I learned playing piano by first marking each key with a tape on it, that labels it from A to G. You can find out which key is which by googling. After that just play a demo on your keyboard that teaches you a song. Just keep practicing and the skills will come.

man, if anyone ever tells you gotta be a good music reader to be a musican they wrong, i know so many good musicans who dont rely on sheet music, i never never use sheet music, if you enjoy & become one with the song enough it is burned into your memory.

opposed to piano teachers songs which people forget a month later, songs that YOU want to learn will stick with you forever.

just experiment with the piano, you dont need to read music yet

Actually, the problem with playing just from memory is that it's incredibly hard to read and learn new music. Learning piano, I'd always memorize songs so I wouldn't have to read the music because it was harder than memorizing it. But now I wish I would have read more because I would be so much better if I could sightread better. It's always easy to memorize a song and has nothing to do with "being one with the song." "Being one" requires "being one" with the written music as much as the sound.
