amazing! i forgot how enchanting this piece was, or it's just how careful Mark brought it to life here. i love the (middle?) section from 5:09, the restrained outburst of passion (if that's possible) from 5:25 on, and how the first section (main theme) is developed after that in the A' section (6:33). i'd say the structure is A-bridge-B-bridge-A', B being 5:09 and A' 6:33. glad to be proven wrong ^^ in any case, this is absolutely wonderful.
@felipesarro oh, alright, so A-B-A', but if the morte part (which i named C) is A', then what i named A' at 6:33 must be some kind of recapitulation, at least of the main theme. and i guess you agree about the bridges?!
@4candles This piece (and performance) touches me the most out of Alkan's works, even more than Aime-Moi, the Barcarolles from the Chants, the middle movement of the Symphony, or the etude I play! :)
I sure hope this fabulous pianist keeps up the Alkan! Is this on a CD for sale, or was it recorded privately for his enjoyment?
@OrangeSodaKing Oh I'm sure he'll keep up the Alkan! These few pieces were recorded privately and aren't available commercially. I don't think it will be long before he has a record deal though!
Beautiful, simply beautiful thank you.

Ronald Smith also recorded Op. 35 Nos. 10, 11, and 12. I will upload those today. Expect them in an hour or so.

@Sorcerer88 oh, and of course the morte part (C, 9:29), so A-bridge-B-bridge-A'-bridge-C
Sorcerer88 1 year ago
@Sorcerer88 the morte part is the transfiguration of A. this piece is an A-B-transfigured A (just like Chopin's Op. 48 no. 1)

@Sorcerer88 you know, there are many possible analysis.
to me, (transfigured A) is more than A', that's why I said it.
I haven't analyzed quite carefully, but to me the B part ends at 9'14. certainly there are bridges here somewhere. hehe
but bridge, to me, MUST be instable harmonically (the intention is to move -- make a bridge -- among tonalities).
hey... thinking better... I think I'd say it's a Sonata-Rondò.

ok, I am impressed. Great piano sound, and those arpeggios (3 against 4, 4 against 5) are damn hard!
bchill69 1 year ago
@bchill69 I agree. 3 against 4 isn't so hard, but 4 against 5, that's definitely a bit trickier! I think this is a great performance.
Thanks for your comments!
