i just started reading This time together.....she's hilarious....I was born in 78, so I have watched carol burnett show in reruns....and Mama's family skits. My husband tells me that his late mother used to crack up hysterically over her show...and how her and I could have been great buddies watching re runs of it together.....
Classic! I love the story about Dulles being interviewed on a TV show in which he was asked to comment on Carol's "love song" about him; reportedly his eyes actually twinkled and he said that he never spoke in public about "affairs of the heart."
He was a horror show, a fascist sociopath, and he's also been described as "dull, duller, Dulles..." but in this one instance he did show SOME sense of humor, so I suppose there's a bit of good in everyone... If you search for it diligently enough.
Where is the clip of Carol recreating an audition she saw when she first came to New York? She beats the pianist to the end of the piece by nearly two minutes. What a hoot!

Actually, this is from her 1957 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Really enjoyed this... I forgot how good she ia at musical comedy. It sounds like the introduction is Ed Sullivan - are you sure it's Gary Moore?
