Light is nice, although I have always gone by the old school though of packing light. Being able to improvise with natural materials and handle any situation. The kind of ultralight backpacking that most people are doing can be extremely dangerous. Grab a 3/4's axe (about 3lbs), strap it to your pack, and then you can handle the winter with a summer rated bag, just like woodsmen did for generations with just their wool blankets. Why take a tent when you can just build one ect...
@JustinBaker2567 It's true, old school can be cool, but most places, like national parks, do not allow rampant chopping of foliage and trees to make a shelter and a blazing fire. I have also found that most ultralighters are highly experienced and know what they are doing, and are not operating in an "extremely dangerous" manner; in fact just the opposite, it's their experience that makes them safe, not their equipment (or lack thereof).
@CDoggsRandoms The fact that you see the blue Murmur in my videos from this past year, including the "ultralight backpacking to the Elysian Fields" podcast, and this one from my Wonderland Trail hike, should speak for itself. The newest model is tweaked to light weight perfection. Just don't plan on carrying a lot of weight in it.
@CDoggsRandoms What can I fit in here? Light, ample room, comfortable, great access with outside pockets, doesn't bounce too much when running, can carry water bladder inside with port to outside, all around perfect if you are carrying a base weight of 5-12 pounds (gear excluding food and water). Not appropriate if carrying heavy gear, bushwhacking through grabby thick brush, you like hip belts, you drag gear across sharp rocks, or you don't like blue. GG website provides more details.
@burgess77 Thanks man, you basically explained it perfectly and I truly appreciate it. I should be expecting something coming in the mail pretty soon, if you know what I mean! Happy trails! =)
Nice scenery. Light is where it's at, for certain. I can't believe the loads I used to carry. Going for a week with tweenty some odd pounds is a big improvement over the old days of 50-60 lbs. Best to ya.
@dinnerandashow I used a custom pole mounted Contour 1080p helmet cam. I did a podcast on mounting options for this camera on my channel if you want to check it out.
@dinnerandashow Battery life is pretty good; I carry a spare but don't have to use it unless I'm out for more than a couple of days and filming a lot. These files download as H.264 files and I edit in Final Cut. And forget about the mic, pretty useless for conversation but OK for wind rushing and screaming.

Is that blue pack the Gossamer Gear Murmur?
CDoggsRandoms 10 months ago
@CDoggsRandoms Yes it is, my go to pack for just about everything: X-country skiing, backpacking, trail running

@burgess77 Wow! I was thinking about buying the Murmur but I wanted a little feedback on it. What do you think of the pack over all?

@burgess77
Checked it out. That's pretty good for a camera under $300. Only about $244 on the Internet.
How is the battery life? What format are the files? How is the mic?
