Stevie playing the keyboard parts and the moog bass on this track is out of this world amazing! It's hard to wrap the mind around his talent! And doing it all blind! Amazing genius!

I didn't know it was a Detroit thing. I thought everyone did the hustle to Stevie. As soon as this song started playing, we would run to the dance floor. Fun times.
@ShannonIsJammin Im from Detroit. I KnowN this song by heart for as long as I can remember, but no one taught me how to do this hustle. Doesn't feel right
I used to think this was a fairly run-of-the-mill song by Stevie's standard. But I've been listening to it repeatidly for the past week, and I would now rank it within my top 10 Stevie songs. I love it. Best being played in a car, sunny day, loud loud loud!
@amosjames28 Yeah! While we were doing the hustle in the D to this song everybody else on the east coast was dancing to Marcia Griffiths Electric Boogie. Im surprise no other areas caught on to the Stevie track.
lol yes, we do the hustle to this is detroit, they taught it in my elementary school we learned it to this song. Doing the hustle to the actual "Do the Hustle" theme song is out of the ordinary here!
OMG there is nuthin' gets the ladies at a wedding reception out on the floor faster than this song in my fabulous Motor City...everybody Detroit Hustle, y'all!!!!!!
I am a proud Detroiter and this song is played at all "over 30" dance bars and at many a wedding and holiday party. At my husband's holiday part in December they had this, so I had to hit the floor and do the hustle with the group, even as pregnant as I was. When I hear this song, I line up to do the hustle. It's like a Pavlovian response :)
yes!! i have awesome memories doing the hustle (and did not realize it was a MI thing until reading these comments--i guess that explains why my friends here in CA have no idea what im talking about when i mention it, haha)
Another funky tune - love this song - have the album on vinyl and the 12 inch single. I don't know what the folks did off of it in Detroit but in Richmond, Cali, we did whatever - just put it on and danced - too funky to sit still - had to do something.
@ronaldlsmith1 uhm wow you're cool aren't you? first off, yuh idiot, him and Stevie were like best buds and their music sounds a lot alike. and it was confirmed after his autopsy that he actually had Vitiligo and to put that rumer to sleep after 20 years but yet people like yourself could care less about the facts and more about the bashing and misunderstanding. now, before you get a whole crowd of haters, I'd watch what you post. kthanks.
Sheeeeeshh!!! Brings back so many memories, grew up listening to Stevie, loved this sang back in the day... it's still awesome, gotta get up and MOVE now!! Thanks for posting.
when this cd came out I was working at a small record shop owned by a family that had a printshop one floor undernearth the record shop & I used to get in trouble for playing this cd too loud ( & I played it everyday & more than once a day ) as I could make the whole brick building shake with the wonderful sounds of stevie wonder LOL
@willlibuster I didn't understand this until today, was reading an article on Stevie and the writer mentioned that this is the song that folks out in Detroit do the Hustle to.
@johnniewalker23 I am from MI and was just asking my frind (from PA) if she remembered doing the hustle to this.. She looked at me all confused and then I read your post! Guess it was only a MI thing HAHAHA
@johnniewalker23 heck yea we do! lol as a Detroiter myself, we play this at wedding receptions all the time! even the children know it! idk where u live at but i'd b happy to share the Detroit tradition w/ ya! u shud try it over where you're at too :)
@johnniewalker23 heck yea we do! lol as a Detroiter myself, we play this at wedding receptions all the time! even the children know it! idk where u live at but i'd b happy to share the Detroit tradition w/ ya! u shud try it over where you're at too :)
That's so weird! My friend from college is from Illinois, and she came to visit me in the Metro Detroit area for a wedding, and this came on and I was dancing my heart out, and she said "Why are you doing the hustle, you weirdo?". The groom came up to her and said "Why are you NOT doing the hustle?!" Lol
@johnniewalker23 yup...us michiganders do the hustle to this song. Everytime someone in my family has a wedding we play this song and start the Hustle!
@MariahBobiah001 So true Im from michigan and i used to do the hustle to this song at my school dances and weddings! Im 21 now so i was doing this back when i was like 16
What an amazing song from Stevie Wonder. This is real music right here. This is much better than today's music nowadays. I would rather listen to Stevie Wonder than to listen to Usher any day. Stevie Wonder has some meaning music out. This is my opinion.
I love Stevie and feel he is the best, but I get your point about the production. The music is good but the instrumentation is one dimensional at times. I mean listen to songs like another star or visions, they're awsome and real.
@alfbigboy I agree. While this is better than most music out there now, this doesn't hold a candle to "Another Star" or "Higher Ground" or any number of his earlier works. One thing that Stevie must be credited with is his ability to create a compelling work of art like this with electronic synthesizers. Many lesser artists of today sound like they've outsourced the job of writing the music to the computer as well.
This song is a testament to good music. I have been to white and black receptions and people act a straight fool when this comes on. Damn, now I think I'm gonna put on my steppin' shoes and take the Mrs. out and scuff up some flo' lol.
It's all good. It's from an episode of the Conan O'brien show. He was visiting a fan in Finland, and the apartment next door to hers had a name plate on it and that was the name on it. He starts knocking on this guy's door yelling "Fagerstrom!!! I know you're in there!! You really have to see it to appreciate it, cuz it's hilarious. You used to be able to find the clip all over the net and on here, but I think NBC clips them after they pop up.
This song is so true for me and even though I have not found Mr. right I have a better life for drugs and alcohol my pain is gone and i live for today everyday with out crying!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You guys might think I am unreasonable.
But my criticism may now be an omen.
Because what I am about to say is a true story:
A prostitute from Davidson Avenue committed suicide because the John she was with on Groundhog Day of this year did the hustle to this song when all she wanted to do was partner dance with him.
Isn't it disturbing that somebody committed suicide over refusal to use arbitrary dances to this song?
lol ur crazy dude, partner dancing isn't going anywhere.....and the hustle is the shit even though its not really dancing....hopefully ur not serious...and if you are you should seek help
Many of you people are reacting to negative people with stuff that is just as negative, which is a pity because positive stuff is what makes the world better, not outwriting some people with a vicious youtube comment.
Because stupid dickheads waste dancefloor space doing the hustle to this song, serious dancers get pissed off.
This is why people are racist and why the R&B community and the rock and roll community are racially segregated; and why niggers in Detroit think they can be more violent as an excust to discourage racism.
Stevie Wonder taints the soul rahter than soothes it.
LOL @ kittyslasher69. "Serious Dancers" huh? Stop watching You Got Served on repeat and join the real world. You're probably some 15 year old emo. GTFO
R&B and rock and roll are segregated? Really? That's why so many R&B artists have collaborated with rock and roll artists on each others albums? You're really just jealous that you haven't learned the dance, sweetie. Oh, and quick spelling lesson: e-x-c-u-s-e spells excuse; not e-x-c-u-s-t. Dumbass. Perhaps, if you picked up a book every once in a while, the world would be a better place.
I say that dancing is about being with the partner physically, not doing what everybody else is doing. That is why me and my friend Kitty criticize that dance. I mean, why does the whole dancefloor have to have that dance just because that song is playing?
I mean, if somebody is going to dance alone, they might as well breakdance (which is what a dancing daredevil would do).
It's not up to one person to interpret how dance should be for everyone else. If you don't wanna participate in the hustle, then don't! It's really just that simple. And you obviously have no idea what you're talking about, when it comes to race and rock and roll. Or, have you never heard of Little Richard, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Tina Turner,, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, and Bo Diddley? All African Americans who in some way either influenced or founded rock and roll.
And when assholes slow me down, it only creates a hazard for the community.
Anyway, that is why I don't take kindly to discrepancies in music genres.
Rock and Roll just had to get fucked up didn't it.
I mean, Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix are the most famous black people to be part of the genre. The only reason why others didn't maintain consistency to its original form is because people are racist; I see evidentary value in how common one race is for a genre
When he makes an oath to encourage more couple dancing and less lone dancing; HE MEANS BUSINESS!!!
Now that markdown on comment integrity was just sheer stupidity.
Because you gotta realize that a blind nigger wrote a song which he will never get to witness hustling to because of his medical condition; and since I agree that the hustle is stupid, Stevie deserves to be blind for the rest of his life!
Maybe god blinded him for good as an omen to how stupid the hustle is as a dance; and to tell us that the hustle is just an ugly diorama. That I would rather have diarrhea than see that diorama.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of a video of this song where a lot of stars were singing with Stevie and Chaka Khan was playing the drums? I saw it on here last year. Thanks
stevie wonder is one guy i can listen 2 where my friends dont call me too old 4 my age cuz they kno dey b jammin 2 his songz just as much as me lol

You are dumb! So stupid and ignorant for even writing this!!!!!!!

All African Americans who in some way either influenced or founded rock and roll.

you gotta point and don't forget about Prince and lenny Kravitz

I live life in the fast lane.
SamuraiClinton 3 years ago
I think racism may hold a key to deciphering the music genre discrepancies you may be under suspicion of!
Kittyslasher69 3 years ago
And how exactly are you complaining about racism, when you have a racial slur in your post? Silly little simple bitch.

Good Lookin out Johnnie, these great songs you get, brings back great memories. They never get old to me at all. :)

Well, it also brings back senseless memories.
If people would stop doing the hustle to this song, dancefloors would make more sense.

If you stop doing the hustle to this song, the world will be a better place.

I want you all to take this oath:
"I promise never to do the hustle to this song"?
Anybody with me?
Because that damn hustle has been overdone.
Anyway, you will have 69 times more fun dancing with women than dancing apart from them!
SamuraiClinton 3 years ago
Samurai has a point!!!!!!!!
Kittyslasher69 3 years ago
Maybe god blinded him for good as an omen to how stupid the hustle is as a dance; and to tell us that the hustle is just an ugly diorama. That I would rather have diarrhea than see that diorama.
SamuraiClinton 3 years ago
now thats some funny shit.
noxdeluxe 3 years ago
You're poking fun at a blind man? Seriously? Maybe God should cut off your dick as an omen to show how stupid people like you shouldn't procreate.

Geeze, what a bunch of crap. Stevie's eyes would be crying if he had to read this tripe.
Great song though.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of a video of this song where a lot of stars were singing with Stevie and Chaka Khan was playing the drums? I saw it on here last year. Thanks
CHOOSEYONE11 3 years ago 2
You don't deserve a copy of this video!
The damn hustle has been overdone; and serious dancers have to suffer loss of dancefloor space over lazy losers who dance to this song!!!
Go find another song to listen to!
