@jokavali1 Because I was testing out the no chill method of brewing to see how it worked. I always chill but I just wanted to see what kind of beer this method produced
A friend and I are going to start homebrewing , and we're using you as inspiration and guidance. I'll also be asking questions on BA , but if you could help us out - please! We'll have tons of questions, we are noobz that love a good beer. Hoping for an IPA our first go around.
@BeerGeekNation We're still just deciding what equipment we need.. either 5 gal or 10 gal - then once we get our IPAs going, we want to know how to infuse them with fruit. Do you use the whole fruit like a pineapple or peach, or just the juice, or just the skins?
@FLefty18 Def go with a 10 gallon pot. I wouldnt use fruit in your beer until around the 10th batch or so, so that you know what your doing. Fruit can be a pain to work with. When I have used fruit I will usually buy the organic frozen stuff at about 1lb per gallon. I then add the frozen fruit to the secondary.
@BeerGeekNation Thank you - we're going to a couple homebrew classes at Funky Buddha down here, they are the ones that make the crazy Bacon Maple Porter.
imho, chilling is the biggest pain in the ass in brewing, especially in winter. I'm very curious to see how this no-chill works out for you, Keep us posted!
I dont know if you did it or not because it wasnt mentioned but I have done "no-chill" brewing before and I like to aerate the wort with O2 and an airstone the following day only because it doesnt get much aeration sitting in the vessel all night, give it a shot next time if you dont already. Great vids keep them coming!
@BeerGeekNation yeah i got cloged valvs and thought i would never dry hop again but i seen your bag and thought hey thats an idea. now i can dry hop.. yeah
@brewale4me Yeah I usually do that but in the middle of filming realized I didnt show it. Im hoping it turns out ok being this is the first time i did the no chill. CHeers!
nice series brotha, i was gonna do an all simcoe ipa for the comp i entered. i decided to go with all apollo and simcoe. dude, let me tell you apollo is an amazing hop. seriously think of the ripest tangerine and tropical fruit. i cant wait for my bjcp judging results....
Wow, you waited 24 hours before adding the yeast. I did that on my last batch but not by choice. I brewed at someone elses house and at the last minute decided to bring it home to firment. I just closed it up and waited til the next day. It came out good!
@schwartzantics Homebrewing is a ton of fun. I just wish I got to do it more! I would recommend starting with an extract kit first and then go to all grain once you feel comfortable with extract brewing. Let me know how your beer tunrs out!
@StumpyJoeJr Yeah tell me about it! Im just glad I caught it when I did. They are the 10 gallon Blichmann's In hindsight I wish I would have gotten the 1's but oh well.
@BeerGeekNation right on. i'm glad it worked out. my last brew was 15 and 1/2ish lb grain bill. the total mash and sparge water was 10g. it was a 7.75g boil and somehow when it was all said and done i ended up with 5.25g in the fermenter. must have been my grain crush
@glitch777 wow, u have a 30% boil off rate (7.75 to 5.25?) You might want to crank down the fire on the burner, you arelosing a lot of beer. Most rates are like 15-20...just a suggestion...
@bjcpc0337 Yah Ive tried the colander before as well. I thought this way would be something every one in theory should have. Some day Im going to build a proper sparge arm haha...someday
@bmeyer44 Hmm im not sure it might be. I bought it as a beer warmer but it probably did start life like that. Oh and sorry I called you man! Force of habit!! Cheers
And your from PA, i'm from the le high valley!

One question, where is the water from the mash at minute 3:29 ?. I assume you drained it into the pot where you are going to boil. Am I right?
Progfan2010 6 months ago
@Progfan2010 Yep exactly
BeerGeekNation 6 months ago
i am always worried about over sanitation and killing the yeast. Is that even possible?
JaeTizzle 11 months ago
@JaeTizzle The only way to really kill the yeast is pitching them when the wort is over 170F or so.

Haha, that's what you get for not brewing in such a long time (re: vorlauf). How big are those kettles? I forget.
I need to get a heat wrap like that. Or maybe I'll use a one of those light heaters for the keezer.
Good stuff, I envy your setup!
