You should learn what casting is yourself before you even think about trying to teach people to stop casting. Casting is when people release their wrist cock far too early. In this video you are talking about coming over the top which is to do with swing plane and not casting. I suggest you remove this video and stop confusing people.
Casting and over the top often causes the other. Beginning golfers do this intuitively, because they are desperately trying to get to center or left side of fairway, which is exactly opposite of what occurs. Instruction I think might be helpful in addition to Byron's vid is this: 1) flat left wrist/bent right wrist from top to well past impact; 2) hands ahead of clubhead at impact; 3) path (inside to inside). All counterintuitive for beginner. Guidance clearly necessary.
If you are a school teacher, you work at a school because you know about the subject you're teaching. So why are you teaching?
Casting the club means releasing the club to early in the downswing. You're teaching a whole different subject of fixing over the top swing and that isn't even being taught properly either.
If anyone has watched this video, please forget what you have watched and contact your local PGA or CPGA professional.
I would agree that this is a anti-over the top drill rather than a casting drill. You're going to find a lot of folks who disagree with the title of this video based on what Byron is demonstrating.
@pitchingwedge1 It's quite different. You can still come "over the top" (i.e - outside in swing path) and still cast. Casting is simply releasing too early where you're scooping the ball up rather than descending on the ball. I have an inside-out swing path yet I'm guilty of casting. Since I have a slow-motion camera, I'm able to validate both my swing path and my casting.
This is GARBAGE...its NOT an anti casting drill. Its anti OVER THE TOP if anything. To be honest he just looks closed in stance, swings back inside and hits inside!!!!
A better drill would be to stand square, swing back on plane or outside and exaggerate dropping to inside!
Usually casters come over the top and vice versa. GolfPiggy has the idea. Watch photos or video of the pros when they are about half down. Notice that you can see their right elbow under their left arm. Many can say what they want, but almost all of the tour pros are a little more shallow on the downswng than on the backswing...usually by about 10 degrees. Some guys like Lee Westwood are 25 degrees more flatter on the downswing.
ummm casting and comming over the top are different things... casting is when u release ur wrist cock too early comming over the top is being outside the target line after the top
casting and over the top are two different things...

Whenever I've suspected I'm coming over the top, I visualize the inside of my right elbow (I'm right handed) jabbing into my ribs on the downswing...
Seems to work
