I had the honor of seeing Terrel and Elway play when I was a little kid when they came into Foxboro and crushed the Patriots. Who were hopeless at the time.
In one calendar year, from January 1998 - January 1999, TD won back to back rings, was a Super Bowl MVP, a league MVP, ran for 2000 yards (in essentially 14 games), and was named to 2 of his 3 Pro Bowl teams.
He also averaged a 1000 yards per season for all 7 seasons despite barely getting a 1000 in his last 3 years combined- in his first 4 seasons he averaged 1600 yards a season- or exactly 100 per game.
What more can a RB do? Unreal. Put that man in the HALL!
@ZhangtheGreat Won a Superbowl MVP, won League MVP, rushed for 2,000 yards in a season despite spending 8 quarters (2 games) on the bench because the Broncos were ahead by 20-30 points, owns record for playoff rushing TDs, owns record for rushing yards per playoff game, joined Jim Brown and Barry Sanders as the only RBs to top 1000+ yards their first 4 seasons, etc. Before the career ending injury he was on pace to shatter every rushing record. Kinda blows your statement out of the water huh?!
@JasonSavelsberg, I was responding to MrRapmaster19's comment about Aaron Rodgers not being on a list of the top ten draft steals. Kind of blows YOUR paragraph out of the water, doesn't it? =)
@gestekoe No he wouldn't have, he wasn't gonna get any better and records don't make you a great RB, Barry Sanders retired early and he's considered one of the top 3 along with Jim Brown who retired at 29. Emmit Smith holds all the records and he clearly isn't the best. Gail Sayers only played 5 years and he's considered one of the best. I like TD he was great but probably not top 10. I don't know how he didn't make the top 100 players of all time though, he was great at every thing he did.
If he wasn't halted by injuries, I have no doubt TD would be in the conversation for top 5 (possibly top 3) back of all-time right now. In his short 8-year career, his efficiency was off the charts.
man cant belieive how many great players have come from the bottom of the draft tom brady terrell davis deacon jones shannon sharpe etc just shows that scouting isnt everything
It's really such a damn shame he won't get in along with other Bronco's greats just because they played in Denver and we're not on the east or west coast. If we were a more flashy organization or had louder personalities we'd get more attention but alas, these are great players that will only be remembered in the Mile High City.
@iamfoob I think Davis will get in the HOF eventually (Steve Atwater too). TD was such an important factor for why the Broncos won those 2 Super Bowls.
@TheMadStork83 I agree! Did you know that the Colts were originally going to select Ryan Leaf(NFL biggest bust) until Peyton Manning urged the Colts to draft him instead?
Terrel Owens is one of the biggest steals drafted in the 7th round 49niners jump on it... P.S. even if your not a fan of T.O's attitude you have respect his talent.
Not only was TD one of the biggest draft steals of all time, he was also one of the classiest players of all time. He truly played for the love of the game, as shown by him returning from every injury. The TD salute is the best touchdown celebration of all time. I hope Moreno takes a thing or two from Davis' book. Even if Denver had to trade a 1st and 2nd round pick I hope they get a player of Davis' caliber.
He needs to be in the HOF. He was the greatest of the Denver RB machine. John Elway could not win a Super Bowl until he had Terell Davis. Gale Sayers only played six years and he is in the HOF. Terell Davis was not just eiding the wave, he was the difference maker for the Broncos, and the best of his day.
Davis was a slasher, a real aggressive runner with excellent acceleration in & out of the hole & the low strength to make a lot of yards after the contract. He really played big for his size, and was fast, tough, instinctive. He could make the 1st defender miss, and was just a productive all-around back. He was not a burner, and would not try to stretch you outside. He was always looking to cut back, and when he got into the secondary, the 200 pounder ran like a 240 pounder running over people.
Well Sayers did have five solid seasons, even if he didn't play the full season for one of those. Davis had more rushing yards and had a better season in 98 than Sayers ever did. But Sayers was a better receiver.
The biggest difference between the two comes in Sayers as a threat on special teams. The dude was a beast returning punts and kickoffs. His first three years on offense and on special teams was a spectacular package. I get your point though, Davis is overlooked.
Hey without Terrell Davis, John Elway never wins a super bowl and his legacy would not be as huge. I suppose its possible that the Broncos would have made it to the 99 SB without TD, but I doubt it. That game against the falcons is the only SB in which Elway didn't play like shit. He for damn sure wouldn't have won that SB against GB without Davis.
I knew I was going to have to read something like this. It is not like Davis is the one that did two helicopters on two different 3rd and 7 plays over 3 different Packers in mid air, one of which was Leroy Butler both times. The Broncos also had WAY better a defensive line in the late 90s. It might very well be that Elway was the only QB that could EVER have led those Bronco teams of the 80s to ANY Super Bowls, let alone 3.
i really hope you get the shit kicked out of you, and i don't care if it's by a white guy or a black guy, you're what's wrong with America, white trash redkneck...go watch Nascar - there's no apes in Nascar.
Same with Brady? Uhh..Brady's been the starter for 9 seasons now lol. Brady is without a doubt a first ballot HOF whether he retires today or in 4 years. TD will eventually get into the HOF, but there are still a lot of players who may go ahead of him.
I hope Knowshon Moreno is as explosive. It seems every player from Georgia Denver gets is always explosive or Hall of Fame quality. Like Champ Bailey.
if he had a longer career and didnt suffer from migraines so bad they would name a wing in the HOF after him... lol just kidding i like denver but mainly a bucs fan
I have no problem with TD being in the HOF, he was one of the best of his era...b/c his career was shortened due to injury doesn't negate how great he was...and I am in no way a Broncos fan
Are you friggin serious? Gayle Sayers was a pioneer, one of the 1st cut & vision, zig zag RB's.....NOT a powerback like Jim Brown, pure finesse and making yards after a misssed tackle. Unfortunately he didn't play long.
@miggy25 i agree 100 percent plus any man who suffers from migrane headaches and had minor breathing problems and perform at the level terrell davis is beyond beast he's an alien and classy off the field played games when many others would wine if they had to deal with his problems a true champion and i am not a broncos fan
Its a shame how he got injured trying to tackle a defender on an interception. I hope he makes it to the HOF because if it wasnt for him, the Broncos never win 2 SBs.
@tallsmile28 If a player will end up ending his career with injury, it better be on a play that he was working hard to accomplish at. Sad at first, but a prime example to show to your teammates for many years.
at 1:26, the guy says he had "game speed", and that is really what matters. it does not matter how fast a guy can run without pads and in running shoes in a dome, what matters is how fast a guy can run with the ball in his hand with pads running from defenders.
How many yards did Gale Sayers have in his career? 4,956 yards. He is in the hall of fame right? Numbers are great, but what does it really mean? I rather have an impact player who every move dictates a game then someone who stacks up stats. TD did both. He ran up all purpose yards and ran up the scoreboard. Without TD John Elway, Steve Atwater, Rod Smith, and Neal Smith wouldnt have a ring. that little 4 year period before he got hurt, TD was up there with Barry and Emmitt in a real way.
He was also league MVP in 98 when he became the 4th player to rush for 2000 yards. In superbowl 32 he rushed for 157 yards and 3TDs. All this while suffering from migranes while doing it. He is still the only player to rush for 3TDs in the superbowl.
in the superbowl i think he missed the whole second quarter. Also in 98 he sat out a lot of those games in the second half since the broncos were in the lead and he already went over 100 yards, even 200 sometimes, i remember reading he sat out about 8 quarters or 2 games. he probably could of beaten the rushing record
umm actually he will be...if u win a superbowl, break the record for most rushing yards in a season and made superbowl MVP...He was an impact player and you don't have to run for 10,000 yards and/or a 100 touchdowns in career...u just have to be that impact player who had a outstanding career and never really puckered out during it and TD was that player
SaintsRow78- He only played 4 real seasons. But he posted 7600 rushing yards and 60 TD's over his carrer. If you average his first 4 years in the leauge before he got hurt. And multiply that by 14 season, how long Emmitt Smith played. TD would have broken the rushing record by over 4,100 yards!
That's assuming he didnt continue to get better. His first year he had 1100 yards, second he had 1550 yards, third he had 1750 and fourth he had 2000. He could have beaten it by 10,000 at that pace ='(
yeah i know, i wasn't down talking him. I said he will be a Hall of famer because of the way he was an impact player, and what u just stated is why he is going into the hall of fame, hopefully as a first ballot hall of famer
SaintsRow78- For sure, I was just tacking on to what you said!
But the sad new's is he retired in 2001 so he's been eligable for the HOF since 2006. He dosnt even think he'll make it in. He has 2 things working aginst him, he played for the Broncos "They get no love from the East Coast especially the HOF commity", second he only played a few years.
I hope he makes it someday, but even Shannon Sharpe can't get in and he held every single TE record when he retired.
yeah maybe, he will make it in one day though, i think within his lifetime...Shannon Sharpe just became eligible though so maybe next year in 2010 or 2011 both were great players and i think they will make it in
To all the Green Bay packers fans, you allowed the AFC (the better conference) to not only win a super bowl for the first time since Super Bowl 18, but Green Bay can't get back to one.
Hey, don't remind me. This game still hurts, I find it hard to watch the Super Bowl footage. Only good thing about it was that Elway finally won, that's it.
LMAO! Lucky for TD he was the top player at his postion. Infact in 1998 he was voted the best player in the entire NFL!!!
Dont forget he won the NFL rushing title and was voted on the 1990's all decade team. And he only played 4 years in the 90's. That should say something that he was voted to that team. When Sanders, Faluk, Smith, ect... were all still in their prims!!!
Rashan Salaam, Ki-Jana Carter, Tyrone Wheatley....wow did the Denver Broncos dodge some HUGE bullets in getting Terrell Davis...a surefire HOF candidate for my money
Carter and Wheatley might have florished behind Denver's all pro line, like Davis did....Davis wasnt any more talented than either of those guys. Sallaam? Okay thats a different story haha.
Broncos new head coach traded him to the Bears, because he is a DUMBASS. He tried to get Matt Cassell by trading Cutler, Cutler got pissed and they ended up trading him. So think about a quarterback who has one of the strongest arms in the NFL is fairly quick and made the Pro Bowl in his second full year as a starter and the Head coach tries to trade him. WOW!
LMAO..Did anyone hear all of those no name running backs that were called up before TD. That is so crazy to think that they were considered to be better than TD.
i know they released Travis. i do watch NFL network however i tend not to care much about the broncos. Im a lil bit more interested in the brett favre dilema and the Jason Taylor situation. but despite losing henry can you recap, whos running for Denver...
uh....travis henry got released like a month ago and recently tested positive for a marijuana test..where have u ben for the past few weeks? frozen? no offense just trying to give u current info
I had the honor of seeing Terrel and Elway play when I was a little kid when they came into Foxboro and crushed the Patriots. Who were hopeless at the time.

He was also league MVP in 98 when he became the 4th player to rush for 2000 yards. In superbowl 32 he rushed for 157 yards and 3TDs. All this while suffering from migranes while doing it. He is still the only player to rush for 3TDs in the superbowl.
knocc1 2 years ago
in the superbowl i think he missed the whole second quarter. Also in 98 he sat out a lot of those games in the second half since the broncos were in the lead and he already went over 100 yards, even 200 sometimes, i remember reading he sat out about 8 quarters or 2 games. he probably could of beaten the rushing record
dragondawgzz 2 years ago 2
i'm glad that EriK Dickerson still has the single season rushing record however, cause i'm a fan of his.

not for long
emericaclay1 2 years ago
who do you think will break it? Adrian Peterson?
spinnerNsports 2 years ago
umm actually he will be...if u win a superbowl, break the record for most rushing yards in a season and made superbowl MVP...He was an impact player and you don't have to run for 10,000 yards and/or a 100 touchdowns in career...u just have to be that impact player who had a outstanding career and never really puckered out during it and TD was that player
SaintsRow78 2 years ago
SaintsRow78- He only played 4 real seasons. But he posted 7600 rushing yards and 60 TD's over his carrer. If you average his first 4 years in the leauge before he got hurt. And multiply that by 14 season, how long Emmitt Smith played. TD would have broken the rushing record by over 4,100 yards!
That's assuming he didnt continue to get better. His first year he had 1100 yards, second he had 1550 yards, third he had 1750 and fourth he had 2000. He could have beaten it by 10,000 at that pace ='(
SlapNutsPoonJab 2 years ago 3
yeah i know, i wasn't down talking him. I said he will be a Hall of famer because of the way he was an impact player, and what u just stated is why he is going into the hall of fame, hopefully as a first ballot hall of famer
SaintsRow78 2 years ago
SaintsRow78- For sure, I was just tacking on to what you said!
But the sad new's is he retired in 2001 so he's been eligable for the HOF since 2006. He dosnt even think he'll make it in. He has 2 things working aginst him, he played for the Broncos "They get no love from the East Coast especially the HOF commity", second he only played a few years.
I hope he makes it someday, but even Shannon Sharpe can't get in and he held every single TE record when he retired.
SlapNutsPoonJab 2 years ago
yeah maybe, he will make it in one day though, i think within his lifetime...Shannon Sharpe just became eligible though so maybe next year in 2010 or 2011 both were great players and i think they will make it in
SaintsRow78 2 years ago
The fact that Sharpe didn't make it in on first ballot is facepalm worthy.

Only good thing about it was that Elway finally won, that's it.
eclectica1 2 years ago
damn this was my favorite back. If he didn't get gurt, he would have been by 13,000 or more yards and still playin.

He will make it to the Hall of Fame!
mondopark 2 years ago
Definitly, His playoff stats are godly, he has to make it
astrowrewl 2 years ago
unfortunently the voters of the HOF hate all bronco players so he probably won't. should but they'll bullcrap him out of the HOF.
hailmary7283 2 years ago
ill agree with this look at shannon sharpe best TE EVER!!!!! and not in the HOF
ddlee84 2 years ago
You have to be Top 10 or Top 5 at your position to get in HOF
hawianiceman420 2 years ago
theres more than 10 quarterbacks in the HOF. and more than 10 running backs too.
hailmary7283 2 years ago
that's because there are a lot of eras in football
hawianiceman420 2 years ago
well either way TD was a top 2 running back of his era.
hailmary7283 2 years ago 3

Rashan Salaam, Ki-Jana Carter, Tyrone Wheatley....wow did the Denver Broncos dodge some HUGE bullets in getting Terrell Davis...a surefire HOF candidate for my money
miggy25 3 years ago 2
Carter and Wheatley might have florished behind Denver's all pro line, like Davis did....Davis wasnt any more talented than either of those guys. Sallaam? Okay thats a different story haha.

What happen to Cutler?
wesramone1987 2 years ago
Broncos new head coach traded him to the Bears, because he is a DUMBASS. He tried to get Matt Cassell by trading Cutler, Cutler got pissed and they ended up trading him. So think about a quarterback who has one of the strongest arms in the NFL is fairly quick and made the Pro Bowl in his second full year as a starter and the Head coach tries to trade him. WOW!
tommyq91 2 years ago
Yeah, i'd still be pissed if I was a Broncos fan.

LMAO..Did anyone hear all of those no name running backs that were called up before TD. That is so crazy to think that they were considered to be better than TD.
