GARLAND Robinette interviewing New Orleans mayor CLARENCE RAY (beam attack) NAGin on WWL AM is unrelated to the 1981 split or the class of 1987. Still, NAGin was born JUNE 11, 1956 and chopping the 0 from WWL's 870 frequency leaves 87, evoking 1987. Nevertheless, George Walker Bush famously lauded FEMA director Michael DeWAYNE Brown with: "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job," in the KATrINA aftermath. Its crazy.....I remeber hearing this, and telling myself "Ya Nagin, Tks for giving New Orleanians a voice, dont hold nothing back, and wow, this guy is really going to do whatever he can to better New Orleans" WRONG!!!!!!!
I'm in Australia and remember hearing that interview shortly after Ray Nagin gave it. Its a pity that we don't have more policitians with the back bone that this guy obviously has.
Garland, I love you! I listen to your show just about every day. You are an amazing man and the voice of New Orleans and the south! Be strong and keep talking!
The sad thing about this is that the right-wing media criticized the citizens on N.O. for not leaving...what they didn't seem to understand is that 9% of the population (generally the black poor) had no access to a vehicle. There is widespread poverty in N.O. and its the poorest Americans, the sick and the elderly that were trapped and died in Katrina.
Danielstwin, you are too ignorant to bother with, people THAT ignorant can learn nothing. You are probably christian, you sound like one anyway...too bad you aren't hindu, you could come back as a person of color and learn so so much...
u no man u no what god dog we need somehting help im just a dumb elected nigger i dont know what to do HELP white man please help....(george bush) you niggers can go fuck yourself
I remember that awful time, and although I was in Mississippi, even there the only news we had was from WWL-AM. The people there stayed through the storm and some of the calls were beyond heartbreaking. Sadly, WWL didn't record that period, and I doubt anyone listening did either considering the circumstances we were in. It was a blessing to have people like Garland Robinette there as a lone voice in a dark and chaotic time.
I was in Iraq when this whole thing happened so i never really got a feel for what was going on and have been trying to research into it more. I can't express how bad i feel for everyone who had to endure that.
Garland Robinette was of course an anchor/reporter @ WWL-TV Channel 4 for 20 years (1970-90), where he was married to coanchor Angela Hill @ for a while. He now runs The Think Tank at another WWL station: that on radio, WWL-AM The Big 870 and WWL-FM 105.3.
Garland you are a wonderful broadcster, thank you for keeping us informed. I listen everyday. Ray Nagin, stay your ass home and do your job, instead of running around trying to get money for whatever you descide to run for. I'll promise you now, I would vote for a dog before i'd vote for you...
This is heartbreaking and powerful.

This was the only time "Mayor" Nagin ever has had a backbone. He is the worst politician ever!

Garland has done an heroic job post-Katrina to let people know what is going on with the recovery. It is not the story the government is peddling.
