@asurevioletperry exactly! Kelly may be the superior vocalist technically, but Kelly brings nothing to the song but a pretty voice...she has no artistic flair, and it shows. Meanwhile, Katy who is clearly the more artistic/creative one brings edge and attitude to the song..unlike with Kelly I believe what Katy is singing, she pays attention to the meaning of the words. To me, Kelly is a beautiful voice and nothing more. Katy on the other hand is a songwriter/artist.

Kelly Clarkson had a big production budget in doing the remake of Katy Perry's initial unrelased album (still unreleased, but making the rounds on the internet). So production quality Kelly Clarkson gets all the advantages. Although their voices are similar, there is no doubt that Clarkson has better range, particularly at the high octaves. The lyric "longshot" is strained a little by Perry. Still, both do the song justice and I own both versions.
