It's not an insult, or a matter of opinion. It's called history. The Irish were there first, and have close blood connections to Wales and Cornwall, which were the original Britons. Then the Angles invaded, and created England. English who are of anglo-saxon decent are not Britons (note the "on"). They are British because they live in the land where Britons used to live. it's something to be proud of (being true Britons, as opposed to the English), so why the hostility?
