I love the sg/les paul look of the guitar. Great tune too. Still prefer my fender strat, but I must admit yamaha created an amazing instrument when they made this guitar.
The yamaha SG is SO greatly built. Some call it the LP/SG-killer. I don't think you can compare these guitars soundwise, but the yam is cheaper, better built and has neckthrough.
I have owned one of these and loved it, but sold it later on to get a Suhr Standard.
Good stuff! I saw your add on c.l. for lessons and came here to check you out. When I get some money together I'll give you a call. New to ventura, come check out my channel! peace!
@V1cT1M38 - So was Carlos Santana in the 1970's. From 1976 until 1982, his main guitar was a Yamaha SG 175B and sometimes a white Gibson SG Custom with 3 open coil pick-ups. In 1982 he siwtched to PRS, which is now his favourite guitar - a GREAT guitar by the way.
Worked with Phil Hartman and own an SG2000. Who could ask for anything more? I live in Japan and always keep my eyes open for a good SG2000 but no luck yet. Great video and great playing.
I have a black SG1500, serial no. 001313. Bought it in '82 but don't know the manufacture year - and Yamaha's no help. She's been the main girl all these years!
The Yamaha SG 1500 was manufactured from December 1981 to an unknown month in 1984 for the European market only. Neck: Maple/Mahogany. Fingerboard: Rosewood.
@vvblues does the tone differ a lot between the 2000 and 1000? i ask because all my guitars are set necks, except for my first act that i keep for sentimental reasons
Excellent vid - thanks. Dead-on with regards to warm pickup sound.Yes - neck through though Yamaha did make set necks as well. Right around 81/2 our music store salesperson tried to sell me an sg3000 desperately. I've kicked myself for years for not buying it. It was a thing of beauty with all that abalone - not that I'm into that, lol, Dave Meniketti of Y&T, (remember them?),. just got another another black 2000 and is well known for their use now and then. Cheers.
These Jap high end guitars like the Ibanez Artists / Performers and Yamaha SG's were built with amazing craftsmanship. Its sad the American made Gibson SG feels like a high school students shop class project when compared to this guitar. Im not sure this model you have is a "NECK THROUGH" double check that, Im almost positive its a Set neck
I hear ya about the Les Pauls. My bridge pup has so much treble, it could peel the paint from my wall. I can't stand the way it sounds. Anyway, Great Playing, Oscar!
Awesome tones! I think it's a perfect amalgamation of an LP and SG AND MORE! Sweet licks too man! The sad part is while this guitar was reasonable back in 78, it's crazily expensive now!
My dad is sending me a 77 red sunburst, he and his buddies call it the "last man standing" and I guess that's me. I'm a P-90 man, but I think I may be swayed. Thanks for the insight, ps you're quite the shredder.
I own a 78 SG2000 also, best guitar I've ever played but it is heavy!!

No wonder Carlos Santana played this baby in the 70's. Was Carlos' prime period !

Sorry if this is a crude question but do you know how much your guitar is worth, approx?
I know someone who has one and he has no idea if it's worth anything
Thanks in advance

Nice guitfidle. :) I like my Gibby R9 but I wouldn't mind having one of those classics. Heck I'd take one over Gibson's from the era. :)

All SGs are extremely well built and off high quality. 3000s are the most expensive.
Heavy but you get tone as the benefit

how thick is the neck? i'm looking to try this model and my hands are rather small haha.

the neck is thin like a LP 60's neck. It's not to fat at all. the only thinner is a JEM
