@VocaloidDTM hahahahahahaha i laughed when i read this. I was expecting something more along the lines of "_/\_ may we all be reborn into the land of infinite bliss." :)
One time a master instructed his two disciples to take care of his hurting legs. Each disciple was told to continuously massage one leg. But each of the two disciples disliked and felt jealousy toward the other. If one disciple went out, the other would use a stone to break the leg the first one had been massaging. When the first one came back, out of anger he would break the leg that the second one had been massaging.
"The same is true of Buddhist disciples Scholars of the Vaipulya (Great Vehicle) deprecate scholars of the Theravada, while scholars of the Theravada also deprecate scholars of the Vaipulya. This threatens to bring about the destruction of the scriptures of both schools of the Great Sage."
The Lotus Sutra furher states that the different teachings and vehicles are all expedient means for different sentient beings. Thus, all can attain liberation.
In true, words may be painful. For as long as they're based on delusion, they cannot pull us out of suffering.
My friend! Painful indeed is ignorance. My speech, likewise, is only a patch of illusory thoughts.
As a fool, I tried to bring a pearl involved in rags. Thus, for the Dharma's sake I ask you: as one would throw away the rags for the pearl, forget my unskilled words and take only the Tathagata's teaching.
Đã muốn liễu sanh tử ngay trong đời này thì phải giữ vẹn luân thường, trọn hết bổn phận, dứt lòng tà, giữ lòng thành, đừng làm các điều ác, vâng giữ các điều lành, thật sự vì sanh tử phát Bồ Đề tâm, dùng tín nguyện sâu trì danh hiệu Phật.(Ấn Quang Đại Sư)
@Chipexcess Buddhism comes from Nepal, then spread all over the world. Where ever a Swastika appears to have been, Buddhism either flourished or still flourishes. Maps with Swastikas on them denote Buddhist Temples.
@Vajrasiddha It brings us to questions as "Why has the Patriarch come from the West?"
Even tough Buddhism may has come from the cradle of Shakyas, the Buddha neither comes nor goes.
When asked to settle an argument about which one moves, if the flag or the wind, Hui Neng answered:"None of them. It's your minds that are moving."
So, too, the Thus Come One is not born, nor is he subjected to death. Neither here nor there. As Buddha's disciples, let us look for the Mind when asking for Him. :)
It is said that when we utter the nembutsu, that is Amida calling to us.
This is why it is called the Name-that-calls. It is based on the philosophy that the concepts of "I", "my", "me" and "mine" are temporary abstract ones.
Thus in declaring my faith in Amida Buddha by uttering "Namu Amida Buddha", that is Amida calling to me.
i am theravada buddhist and to us this is not enough to become a buddha one must study on himself and follow the words only from siddatha gotama and follow his teachings from siddatha gotama allone and follow his path by meditation
But Gotama also said in the Amitabha sutra, that this is another path to englightment. Our world is getting harder and harder to follow the dharma properly.
With all the attachments+delusions. I can kind off agree with you we can do more, but i dont agree with you on the part of "this is not enough."
I dont consider myself a mahayana or thervada buddhist, i mix them both ( even though im a slight mahayana).
Does Thervada believe in Amitibha's pureland? just curious

birth, old, sickness, death is like a circle .. for it started at one point and end at one but no matter what happen in between, the circle will be completed no matter how long it takes ..
Actually i am not a great buddhism student but more or less it is a prayer which purpose is to LEAVE NEGATIVE MIND ATTITUDES and so not to develope bad karma, having birth in a land where is possible pratice buddha's teachings. More or less :)
if one recites his name at the moment of their death, they will be reborn in Amitabha pureland. That being said, it not easy. At that moment, your body is in excruciating pain. Your mind is undoubtedly confused, terrified, and full of attachment. It very hard to think of reciting!
my grandma has this little tape box thing.. i don't know what it is, we got it from the temple and it plays a chant similar to this in our house 24/7. it's relaxing to hear it all the time.
Sure you can join a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple or a temple that practices Pure Land. It's not hard at all. Pure Landers are very open and accepting (I'm euro-american)
You dont need to convert. There is nothing to convert from or two. Pureland encompasses all forms of Buddhism. Recite the Buddhas name with a sincere heart and you will be reborn in the Pureland.
Say "Namu Amida Butsu", believe in Amida's promise to deliver you into the Pure Land when you recite his name, believe in the 4 Noble Truths, and follow the Eightfold Path.
That's basically it to becoming a Pure Land Buddhist. Also take refuge - say "I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha". The Buddha being Gautama, the first teacher on Earth for our age the Dharma being the teachings, and the Sangha being all Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas (those who help you achieve enlightenment)
"Namu Amida Butsu" is the Japanese transliteration of the Sanskrit "Namo Amitabha Buddhaya". It's not Japanese, it's just the Japanese pronunciation of the original Sanskrit.
I personally find Japanese easier to speak than Sanskrit (as I know Japanese and not Sanskrit), so I would pronounce the Japanese pronunciation and not the Sanskrit. If you feel you can pronounce the Sanskrit, then go ahead. There's no problem with it.

@Calixtus Painful indeed is changing a pearl for rags. So, too, it is to change the practice of the Noble Teaching for many limited thoughts!
May we put an end to all which is painful.
May we wholeheartedly recite Amitabha' name and realize the pearl beyond words.

@Vajrasiddha Perhaps the situation resembles the Diamond Sutra, where the Buddha says:
"If one sees me in forms,
If one seeks me in sounds,
He practices a deviant way,
And cannot see the Tathagata."
Where is the Buddha, then? Where is The true mind?
May we all succeed in our quest.
I hope this may be of some benefit.
Thanks for the comment!
