I saw this in Ottawa at Barrymore's, just before the Monreal gig. We had tickets to both shows, so I got front row seats for the second one. He had a different percussionist, though. The keyboardist, Kei Akage, was spectacular. He went on to play with Miles Davis. Tom Brechtlein on drums is killer.
This was my first exposure to Al. I had the whole concert on VHS tape, and was absolutely enthralled. I've since built up a pretty good library of his music, and I've seen him four times in concert, but seeing this made it seem new all over again. Love it! Anyone love "Kiss My Axe"?
@mordig It astounds me how he can look so calm and placid while playing a song like Friday Night. He has more chord structures in a few measures of most songs than I have in my entire repertoire. A humbling artist indeed.
I remember seeing this on TV back in 88 or 89 ... and SCRABBLING to try to find a blank vcr tape to record it!!!!!! haha! thanks for the post ... much easier now!
This is absolutely beautiful music and can you believe that you can't even buy this album anymore? I tried to find copies on the web and people wanted $75 for it!
i like the beginning riff of atavism of twilight... it kind of sounds like the beginning of a storm. the rain falls slowly at first, and then it gradually blossoms into a maelstrom.
I remember being a little pissed because of the two albums of acoustic stuff back then, but I'm absolutely more appreciative these days. What a beautiful song...
