  • The highest quality country in 1900: UK.

The highest quality country in 2012: LESOTHO!!!

  • The best thing that I've done all year is to give a young IT graduate a two week work experience opportunity. At the end of it, when asked what he had learnt, he told us that despite struggling to find a job for 16 months, he had loved his time at our small company as it had shown him that he has something to offer.

You can't bottle inspiration. Do one small thing for others at a time.

  • so facebook is the largest country in the virtual world

  • Are those results based on numbers or ratio? If it's numbers then it is obvious other countries would have more smarter students as there are more people.. Can you make it more clearer please?

  • our teacher showed this to us in class today

  • Okay, I guess this video isn't exactly correct. More like estimations and what probably could/would happen.

  • I think the biggest problem facing the word today is that of population. Although some of the facts in this video were wrong they were right about one thing; the human race is going through an exponetial phase, and if you look up how population graph pattens work you'll see that after the popultion peaks and can no longer support itself, the numbers drop very quickly. Also population is partly the root of so many other global issures; climate change, world famines ect.

  • @33Evani

One big logical fallacy Britain wasn't just Britain in the 1900. Its just like saying the USSR is today's Russia.

Today's common wealth countries including suspended countries like Fiji,Zimbabwe ,Ireland comprised what is what the video reffered to as England. Although wealth, labour and raw materials taken from present day India and Africa much of it was enjoyed in England .

  • @WacheniUshenzi whilst you are correct state that the Empire consisted of more than England or indeed the United Kingdom, would it not be true to say, but it was the British Empire and not the Commonwealth that in 1900 ruled much of the world?

  • Shit happens? It certainly does!

  • can you continue and make a 2010 one? pleaseeee

  • N.W.O.

  • FUCK THE SONG!!!!!!!! AAAARRRRGGGHGHHHHH!

  • FUCKING SONG GET BANNED OMFG

  • It means that during the course of this presentation, your mom gained 15lbs.

  • I AM SO ANGRY! That isn't the English flag!

  • 4:10 is not true

  • This video is confusing in that it mixes UK facts with world facts and is thus not as usefual a tool as it could have been. Indeed it seems more interested in sensationalism than helping viewers to reflect on the impact of technology and how those who work with and legislate for young people might use the information.

  • China might some day have a larger English speaking population, but what we really need to measure is the percent of them who can fluently speak English , if that was how we were measuring it, the US would take the cake (which in this case, is NOT a lie)

  • the person making this video is pretty dozy. They say the top 5% Iq scorers is larger that the UK population. What that actually means is that UK population size is less than 5% that of China.

you could equally have said that the bottom 5% IQ scorers is larger than the UK population, or for that matter why not say the 5% with the longest toenails.

    Completely dumb statistic

  • @hamilton977 no what the video states is that the highest children's iq scorers in china number greater than there are children in the uk, i.e there are more gifted and talented children of china than there are children in britain

  • dude what is this song its AWESOME!!

  • @hyperman1111 Lol, so true. And I swear it has been changed. I think it used to say 'the amount of new technologies will double every 72 hours by 2010.' I've been shown this video 3 times now at school (once a year) and it's slowly disproving itself. A lot of it is also very biased: '84% of young people play computer games once a fortnight.' What defines 'young people'?

  • the funny thing is, this video is already outdated.

  • awaesome stats man.... good job........

  • NOT THIS SOOOOONG

  • As part of ‘Citizenship’ lessons, my 9YO son had to take part in a week-long exercise where half of the school were designated ‘PowerLords’ (PLs), constantly ordering about & insulting the other half, ‘NiggaNoggers’ (NNs).

NNs had to wear degrading costumes- dungarees, bare feet & large afro wigs & do the dirty cleaning jobs while the PLs played. PLs could even order NNs to do their homework.

Many children are now in counselling as a result & the member of staff responsible has ‘moved on’.

  • China will not be or likely ever be the world largest English speaking nation. You have lots of people in china who have or will have to varying degrees a command of the English language.

  • "7 of 10 teenagers have a handheld videogame..." "9 out of 10 teenagers have handheld videogame, cellphone and a computer.."

How is that possible? 9 have all three and 7 have one?? O.o

  • sometimes size doesnt matter no shit 2day at skool a 5 foot 3 guy who is weak beat up a guy who is 6 foot 1 and is strong :D

  • "9 out of 10 teenagers have a home computer,..." I guess developing countries(=most of the world) are not included.

  • I worked as a schools career advisor in the mid-2000s, and I often put better-looking, non-academic students in touch with a local modelling agency. I was fired by the Head for ‘incompetence’ after it turned out they also supplied the ‘adult glamour & hardcore’ industry with models & actors.

However, they had to pay for my silence with 2 years’ salary and a fantastic reference as they didn’t want the bad PR to get out. I couldn’t see what the fuss was about…

  • @SuperTruth77 Well they probably did not want the kids to be porn stars.

  • Philosophy of Physics

    After reading some scientific ideas:

The more I study the more I know

The more I know the more ideas I have

The more ideas I have the more they abstract

The more they abstract the less I know the truth

And therefore conclusion from some article:

One of the best kept secrets of science is

that physicists have lost their grip on reality

  • hi! Can we use your vid in a presentation about science education?

  • this videos facts are not true because england have produced countless football legends and have a top five nation currently in fifa but india and china have failed to produce 1 football great only korea and japan have great players

  • Whos scared???? And why???

  • Of course the most interesting thing about this video... is that even in a short or longer time after it's first published (July 2008), some or all of the figures quoted in it will be wrong, as populations change and new technologies emerge. So this video would have better produced if it has a timestamp on the video itself, showing *when* those figures apply.

  • can u say polk?

  • 4 out of 5 of the jobs that we are preparing students for will not exist when the student graduates, and will not exist for 28 months after the student is hired, at which time softare will be developed to do that job, so that the student can write history for those who will follow, using plain ol pencil and paper.......

  • Our School system, a system that has not really seen any significant change since it introduction in th 1830s is no ready for the information age.

  • SHIT HAPPENS

  • @ThatGlatorian1 you happen

  • this vid confuesd me lots

  • thats amazing how they know this stuff....my guess is that by 2055 every job and piece of technology would be invented

  • Confusing The UK and England isn't going to help your credibility.

Also references for your data would be useful.

Lastly, saying we need change is easy. But you don't give any ideas for new methods of teaching.

I think it's definitely a good idea to embrace technology, but I'd rather have an education system that puts an emphasis on the importance of unity in the community, and a sense of pride in one's work.

  • bearing in mind that this video is about education--------the correct answer to the pop quiz is THE UNITED KINGDOM. (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)

  • Were they talking about 1900? In 1900 there was no such thing as the united kingdom? Britian was England Scotland Wales and the entire Island of Ireland?

The names "UK" and "GB" and "British Isles" are all so confusing and contentious that no one should bother using them.

  • I think it is a truly that the ages are changing even thoug we are not who are doing that, the technologies are doing it, education is nowadays is one refleject of this chance around the worl because people being young or adult, they less by less with their news technologies articules like a computers, games, etc going to learn something. ''The future i now, and now is the evolution of Technology''

  • Technoloogy is increasing every day and we have to face doubts about it, we as a teachers should try to improve our capacities in order to be succesful trachers

  • i think a teacher can take advantages of the tecnological advances and of the world development and of the new multimedial tools than arise to use them as means of education

  • The future of the education will be deeply sealed by the technology , it can offer opportunities to improve the education. Students and teachers can take part in virtual classes . When the students use the technology as a tool of productivity or communication they are relating to a top level of thought, which will allow them to take decisions on how to meet it, to be organized it, to analyze and to share information.

  • i think that the technology gives great tools for the teachers if they know how use it.

all the teachers should teach with the tools that the technology give us for make esiest, nice and interesting the classes for the students.

the youngest people have high level in the campus of technology but the teachers can be in the same level and use it for your benefit .

  • I think Technology is the best thing that men could create. It has been a good tool in the education and each dat life becomes better.

We as teachers should use it in order to have good methodology to teach.

  • It's a truly deeply and simple existential observation that life is full of imperfections and unexpected situations so, what are we as future educators going to do? How r we gonna lead the path towards our students success through technology? How can we benefit from digital education in the 21st century and help pupils succeed and become global and digital? Our clocks are ticking we'd better get down to business...

  • I think that video is very interesting because of the importance of th english learning in the whole world.

  • The tecnology`s evolution has given us several adventages about the education, there we can improve our knowledge and share it in a good way.

  • If the world is changing so fast, people is increasing and tecnology has been advancing every day, i think, teachers must be updated with every thing is happening, improving the strategies and the tools that are used to teach, so with the new tecnological tools as internet or games, we can teach in a very nice and comfortable way where the students will learn and enjoy learning.

  • I think that advanced tools are the answer to educate new generation. teachers have the responsability to find new ways to teach in a very effective way that student get interested on it. Education in other countries is excellent not for the level of knoledge, is because teachers induce students to learn wiht differents alternatives.

  • well, i think world is going to fast for us. even we are to young the tecnology is increasing in a enormous way and i think we are going to be teachers in a future so, we really HAVE to find the way of teach not only with our knowledge, with tecnological, modern and impressionant tools too. this is for try to do students will be more connected with the new language learning in a atractive way for them.

  • i think that the technology will increase so much and the boys of the future wiil live better that we live beacause of the technology, also think they will be more inteligent that we and will create a better life for the world.

  • If this is used for education purposes then it would be useful to note that the reference to the country which was most powerful in 1900 is not England but the United Kingdom and that the flag shown is not an English flag but the flag of Britain.

  • I'd say that's fairly irrelevant to the message of the video, not to mention an argument of semantics.

  • @savesilence Actually, it can be argued that the most powerful country in the world in 1900 was the United States. During the American Civil War, the USA showed the world armies larger than any nation had seen at the time. Also, in the years after the Civil War, American industry grew at a rate far surpassing that of Europe's. Lastly, the USA's swift defeat of Spain in the Spanish-American War, two years prior to 1900, had already shown it to be the world's most powerful nation.

  • @savesilence only 10% relevant i would say since history itself is a type of education anyway.

  • @savesilence I'd say if you were part of the United Kingdom and proud of it and to hear it being called England it is very relevant and England has its own flag...as do the other countries that come under the union flag of Great Britain...

  • @savesilence But doesn't give much confidence in the accuracy in the content if the author doesn't know the difference between (the then world superpower) the United Kingdom and England does it?

  • @prblogger

This contend in this video is very inaccurate.

Even some bloggers who are posting comments seem not to know where 'England' Derived its power.

I'm shocked kids in schools are being fed with wrong information.

The author of this content lacks knowledge of 1900's colonial history: 1900's Colonialism and Scramble for Africa, is what sustained Britain lust for raw material.

China and India are slowly replacing Europe in African mysterious way...is one attribute to their success

  • @WacheniUshenzi

Tha author lacks a lot more. Especially he isn´t aware that there are things in life you can´t simply learn and/or develop, which are not subject to a certain number of 0s added to numbers. To the Chinese population you can add as much zeros as you like, they will never reach the quality of e.g. German technology. Another issue is that we should be grateful especially to the Chinese as they are guarantors for millions of jobs in Europe in the fields of environmental care

  • @savesilence but it is the British Empire so...

but irrelevant to the message of the video :)

  • @hdiador

Actually England is a country inside the UK, a sovereign state made up of Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales. It is perfectly correct to say that England was all of those things, although as you say the flag is wrong.

  • @hdiador

Actually England is a country inside the UK, a sovereign state made up of Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales. It is perfectly correct to say that England was all of those things, although as you say the flag is wrong. Strangely enough, everyone in my class, in the UK of course, said that the country was America. I knew that this was not the case because there is no way the US has a world leading quality of life or standard of education. Its to Asia we need to look in future

  • @hdiador

...point of correction Sir, you will be mis-educating the youth if you say only Britain dominated the world in 1900's It wasn't just the united Kingdom or England, It was the British Empire. It stretched from New Zealand, Caribbean, India ,Africa, Canada or simply the all the common wealth countries including suspended nations.

what you wrote is close to saying Washington DC is the most powerful country in the world and ignore other States in the USA

    Wealth from India, Africa

  • You'll be disappointed to know this video is actually referring to Britain ; )
