  • Thanks Simmo. I missed this year, (Broke as usual.)

  • Nice one , it takes me back!!

  • Both plectrum and fingers I think most the time.

  • Yeah, I've read an interview where he said that he started playing that way because he was 'too lazy' to keep putting the pluctrum down and picking it up again. Wish I could be lazy like that!

  • Check out Tommy Emmanuel to see some more wizardry using this technique.

  • Does anyone know if he's playing with a plectrum? I was there too that night and hadn't heard of Thompson before, but i think he's great now. Also would anyone know what his whole setlist was? I wish there was a full recording of his performance. superb.

  • More to come.

  • Yo. Buy RT's "Smalltown Romance" cd. It's 15 or 16 of his best songs done acoustic solo. One of my favorite records ever. Excellent music. (His full band stuff is cool too, but STR just hits me "there.")

  • @OADF Yup, he is playing with a plectrum AND finger picking simultaneously. Saw him perform several times.

  • @OADF There's a close-up of the plectrum / picking in Cleapatr's video of him doing "Waltzing for Dreamers".

  • @OADF I was there too, but I don't have a complete setlist. RT plays with a plectrum and fingers simultaneously. It's sometimes referred to as hybrid picking. For certain songs (like 1952 Vincent) he uses a thumb pick to free up his index finger.

  • Title of this song:

I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight

  • I mean: the rhythm!

  • Watch the tempo!
