I don't kow that unit. Can you set the note value to dotted 8th? If you can, then set the beats per minute (or tap the beat into the unit) and set to dotted 8th. Otherwise you have to convert the note value into milliseconds and set your delay. A dotted 8th note at the proper BPM for Streets is 254ms. But learn how to do this so you can adjust for other songs. Then you have to play the notes at the right BPM or it wont sound right. See other tutorials.
Intro to Guitar Delay Parts 1 and 2 explain it. Also search on Google. You need to understand the difference between beats per minute, note value and delay time. They are all related. Your delay should be able to set the delay time. You dont have to tap in a beat. But you do have to play at the correct BPM. Put the mp3 into MixMiester to give you the BPM. Then play at that beat. Streets is 354ms which is a dotted 8th at 127 BPM. I explain the math in the vids.
It's on the list. I will cover the intro like the one on the Chicago DVD. It's mostly just a lot of shimmer and making sure the picked notes are smoothed out and not heard.
Boss DD-20 is a great modulated delay. Seems that the Line6 M9 and M13 are also great units. Best delay out there in my opinion is on the Fractal Audio Axe-Fx (but expensive).
Yep, she is by far the star. She gets all the attention around our neighborhood. She's a therapy dog at NY Presbyterian Medical Center on 68th and York. We visit in the pediatric and pediatric ICU on Saturday's. She's an amazing girl and has literally saved a life. I'm humbled by her every day.
I think a dotted 8th is different than a dotted 8th. I'm setting the delay time to a dotted 8th which is 3/4 of a quarter beat, or 1.5 8th note beats.
I'm definitely not an expert in music theory or time signatures, but I found this on Google: "Shuffle rhythm is a specific 8th note rhythmic feel. It is based on triplet subdivisions of the beat rather than on dividing each beat perfectly in half (a.k.a. straight 8th notes)."
cheers, yeah i guess dot 8th by definition is same as 3- 16th notes.and shuffled 8th are the 1st and 3rd notes in a triplet. you would think the line6 delay would dedicate one sound to this type of rhythm...a specific 'edge' patch... thanks for your help
I've messed around with delay on my pod, but never knew what I was doing or what the numbers meant. Now at least I have some idea. Thanks for posting this.
Hi, thx. No part 3 yet, but I may have a few more points I can make in a part 3. If anyone has any questions about delay, let me know and I can incorporate answers into a Part 3. I have never used the Echo Park Delay, so I can't comment. I own a TC220, Axe-Fx and DD-20. All are fantastic for Edge tone (modulated delay is key).
Great stuff! You really are meticulous about everything you do and it shows in your tone, your playing and your teaching! I would be interested in your recommendations for delay pedals in regards to U2 songs. 5***** lessons by the way! Thanx.
The Boss DD-20 is a great delay from a value perspective - excellent mod delay setting. For a more expensive rack unit, the TC Electronic D-Two is also very good, but there are a couple things about how the delay settings work that I don't personally like. My favorite is the Axe-Fx, but it's a much more expensive ditital effects processor by Fractal Audio. Axe delays are on par with the King of delays - the TC2290 (expensive on eBay). An Axe-Fx doesn't cost much more than a 2290.
edge would never wear a shirt like that :) . Even the dog knows that . Great lesson though . Top class . Could you do a vid on the pride riff in relation to the delay . Mine always turns out muddled . Its driving me mental !!!
@U2GuitarTutorials It is very helpful tutorial thx, by the way Mila seems to be jealous about guitar ;-)
