I bought a '97 Cavalier RS today for 1,300 and i was amazed how everything in the car worked perfectly. its my first car and I love it, it has 143,000 miles and it drives perfectly!

@ksmuffin Keep it properly maintained and treat it right and you will have it for a long time. Just make sure you don't mix DexCool and regular coolant. Keep and eye on the belt if you have AC. Also, driver side passenger has a 1 star safety rating, so don't let people sit there often. :P

The Cavy has one of the highest torque ratings for it's generation. Maybe not the best HP but the Z24 can kick ass on the launch.

Just get rid of the cavalier, as much as you may be attached to it. Dropping in a new engine would cost more than the car. A cheap alternative would be to buy a Eclipse/MR2/or Talon with a turbo from the ealry-mid 90's.
