  • The first pedal to actually be able to stand up to the venerable Boss DS-1

  • Let there be rock Andy!!!!

  • @lute760 BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Is this better than a Carl Martin Plexitone or Fulltone OCD?

  • I thought this pedal was Amazing". If your searching for a pedal that will give you Authentic Marshall clean-Crunch and Lead tones and Beyond" this is it! Very warm and full sound. to sum it all up", This is the only pedal I"ve found that is a real amp.

  • I bougth this thing around 2 years ago. The sound is really good. I will not match a dual rectifier or a JCM 800 but this pedal is great for the advanced guitar player that takes rock/metal serious. I can get sounds like Metallica, Guns and Roses but on lower settings you get a nice tube screamer bluesy sound out of this pedal. Hope this helps!

  • 6:35 , superb

  • @rubencon 6:15 that is superb

  • will this be effective to mix with a ts9 tubescreamer?

  • @willmakeyou hm not that much....at least for my gear (fenders gtrs+fender deluxe reverb RI amp), why would you do that?Use the ts9 as a booster?

  • best sound!

  • How do you rec your signal ? from cab to your camera mic? or..?

  • Cool pedal

  • Yeh MightyPwned is right not all solid states are crap. There some very good solid-state's out there. although this pedal her will immensly improve the sound of your solid-state amp. pro-audiowire are dedicated to answering questions and debates on whether to buy solid-state or tube? check out the website it's only up 2 days , tell us how we can improve and what you would like to see on it. thanks. THIS PEDAL IS AWESOME!

  • I have this pedal, and i have to say: coming out of my line 6 spider, it sounds amazingly close to an actual marshall, especially when its being recorded. of course, thats only when you run it with high gain, but still, at $150-200, this is a great deal.

  • This pedal really delivers..could be perfect for late night recording...very serious rock distortion, and much EQ selection..

  • a friend of mine bought this thing and it's amazing! It has E-X-A-C-T-L-Y the tone of a marshall tube amp! we played it through my engl fireball and then we played with the same guitar through his Marshal DSL401! really amazing! do difference!

  • a friend of me bought this thing and it's amazing! It has E-X-A-C-T-L-Y the tone of a marshall tube amp! we played it through my engl fireball and then we played with the same guitar through his Marshal DSL401! really amazing! do difference!

  • This Disto is good for nu-metal too, Loock the "top-end" buttum, if you put it on top (no in this vidéo), the sound smash everything (but put a EQ after). But from an amp to another, the sound is very different.

The sound is similar of a mesa trilogy's distortion...

    Sory for my English

  • I think Kirk Hammett use this pedal

  • Comment removed

  • @96lolstar Yeah he does with good reason, its choppy distortion sounds close to a Mesa Mark IIC. This demo doesnt really show its high distoriton quality. The noobs who buy metalzones and the digicraps are wasting their time. This pedal is where its at for any type of Rock metal tone. It sounds totally like a tube amp

  • @ShivaTheAuspicious Thanks for the advice!

  • Very interested in this. This is my chain:

Subdecay Noise Box -> Rat II -> Swollen Pickle Fuzz -> Volume Pedal -> Boss FL-3 -> Korg KP3 -> UBS Preamp -> MacBook Pro

    Where should I place it?

As always, great demo - thanks!

  • @dbmayne same place as your rat 2 or swollen pickle. Its a distortion, so as long as its before the amp or before any compressor or time effect..any place is fair game. I do the same thing for recordings just to get variety; At times I want that Bogner compressed chewy/clicky sound so I have an AMT B1, other times I want something really thick but highly defined so I use my Dirty Bomb, my go-to is my Suhr Riot though--its a box of wonder. May get a pinnacle or CM Plexitone at some point.

  • hi pro guitar shop, i was wondering how would this pedal work out with my setup, i've got a 65' reissue fender super reverb and a american standard strat with dimarzio pickups and i want to know if this pedal wouldn't sound too harsh if i use it for a marshall like distortion.

  • I use this pedal through a Fender Blues Jr, and my Marshall buddies are all blown away. The only problem that I can see, is the power supply. 9 or 18v would make more sense, as most pedal boards are running those power supplys. Otherwise it's a great pedal.

  • so if i put this infront of my fender, i can get the fender cleans, and this pedal will give me a more british -esque distortion tone. if i understand right.

  • this pedal has a f***ed up power supply

  • I play through a SUNN SL160. its a solid state combo. its amazing its from the late 70's maybe early early 80's. in a side by side blind sound test versus a tube amp. you would be hard pressed to pick the tube amp. But yes some solid state and even tube amps are total garbage. this is life.

  • Would this work well through the clean channel of a Roland Cube 30x?

  • I use a Fender Deluxe H Rod with a Hot British Plexitube and it blows away my friend's JCM 2000 ,both have 1-12" Speaker.

  • price ?

  • Lol, could this pedal get a Rush sounding, Test for Echo era distortion?

  • does this pedal require a tube amp? i felt like that was implied in this demo but im not sure, please respond!

  • @jmgully12 No, it does not require a tube amp. The pedal itself has a tube inside it. I hope that answered the question.

  • which one of the tonebones should i get for playing punk / trash metal?

  • hehehe........tonebone

  • I suck in comparison to Andy :-/ Please hire someone who has less mad chops and don't embarass the rest of us - Jimmy Buffet maybe?

  • I can hear a creamy and natural sound.....not bad, really not bad!

  • this sounds like an awesome pedal :D

  • Lots of horrible sounds... Few good ones. I wonder what guitar he used.

  • what if the tube of his soho is involved, i guess the pedal will sound much more fuzzy on a solid state amp then

  • LET THERE BE ROCK Andy!!!!!!

  • if i changed the 12ax7 tube for a 12au7 tube would i ruin the pedal or would i get that sweet jimmy page tone im lookin for or does this pedal already comes with that great jimmy page sound? or are there other pedals better for that tone, like a vox cooltrone line(if yes, wich one?) or another tonebone model? pleasepleaseplease help me out!!! btw, very very very nice demo!!

  • @acm12358 your problem begins with thinking jimmy page has a sweet tone. just play as sloppy as you can and you'll sound like jimmy page.

  • @brownbigb That sure is an opinion.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

    "That sure is an opinion"

    That sure is hilarious.

I am going to share this with a friend of mine. Thanks.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos IN your honest opinion. How would this sound on a solid state amp.

  • @stiehlreddog - It would sound like a solid state amp with a pretty decent distortion pedal in front of it, unfortunately.

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos LoL so nothing like the video. In other words.

  • @brownbigb

Don't disparage any guitar player. Chances are someone thinks you suck too

  • Comment removed

  • @brownbigb The nerve of people;thinking people like Jimmy Page,Jimi Hendrix,Eddie Van Halen,Randy Rhodes,Al De Meola,Andres Segovia and Paco De Lucia can actually play guitar! But we know better, don't we.If you want to see REAL talent, check out the Jonas Brothers or Lady GaGa.They shred on guitar!

  • @lute760 please, I BEG YOU, tell me youre joking

  • How would this work in front of a 70s Marshall JMP combo?

  • @JonasSweden1

    overkill

  • its all a matter of taste! for me thats the best distortion ever, i tried everything

  • i need to wait a while when i turn it on right???

  • Who wants to buy mine? 140$ used... even though it is best to buy this sucker new :)

  • I wish they did this with a Les Paul. I don't like that heavy thud/spanky sound that single coils have in the low end when they are distorted.

It's a great review non-the-less. Very thorough and comprehensive. Thumbs up!

  • stand alone for metal???????????

  • i just bought this bitch and it great

  • I love my Radial Tone Bone Hot British. I can get Zepellin, Sabbath, and AC/DC tones. You can even get close to Brian May's guitar sound. It's also quiet.

  • how come this pedal sound so much like a fuzz pedal? or does marshall stack sound like that?

  • If your buying this for that "tube" sound and you have a solid state don't bother :) although it sounds fairly decent through a clean valve amp

  • OK, i have a budget of 200 bucks (i'm parting with my tonelab) and i want a distortion like this. i like stuff from Led Zeppelin to The White Stripes, To Green Day. I've got a strat, a hagstrom viking, an electromatic gretech, an eastwood airline, and a few others. i've been looking at this and the box of rock. i have a very fenderish-sounding 40 watt traynor. can anyone point me in the right direction?

  • This sounds just as good as the Maxon tube driver/booster with the tube in it. This has some real crunch, bite, crisp. I want this bastard/

  • This is an amazing pedal--I would know, I own one. I actually use it a little unusually, I have a second distortion pedal that I prefer over this one, but I use the hot british as a "pre-amp" at the beginning of my chain to get the harmonics that the 12AX7 valve offers. I hear Kirk Hammett uses this same pedal the way I do.

Also, this pedal adds just a hair of noise, for which I use an ISP decimator.

  • Is this good for Thrash metal and metalcore?

  • @currykill I'd check out the MXR Fullbore Metal, the Zvex Box of Metal, or the Blackstar HT-DistX. This pedal could be used for metal, but it's voiced more for fat hard-rock tones in my opinion.

  • This is anawsome pedal. Hope you dont want to hook it to a pedaltrain. its 15vdc.

You will need a seprate plug.

  • why would kirk hammet use a pedal if he can use all the tube amps he wants

  • @rocker1289 For practicing on small amps, and for enhancing the gain and versatility of a valve amp.

  • How does this sound for a guns n' roses/aerosmith tone?

  • ok so i am into priest sabbath megadeth type of stuff looking for a pedal to give me a good chunky metal tone i like both this one and the plexi but not sure they are both kinda pricey for pedals so i want to make the right choice for my taste and style anyone got info

  • I think this sounds slightly better than the plexitube.. I don't think having an extra channel is worth $100 either. You could get an EQ pedal for $100 and get two radically different tones instead of two kinda different tones.

  • From what Ive seen the plexitube is basically a Hot British with an extra channel. Not really worth it in my honest opinion, I really want the Hot British though! Might buy one this weekend.

  • @VanPlayzGuitar I bought the HB and went back and got the Plexi 6 mths later. But the channel in the HB is hotter. The Plexi has an effects loop which can be useful for delay on solos and lead channel also has a gain trim pot.

  • @JudasFuckingPriest69 (awesome youtube name)

electroharmonix metal muff is the way to go for you...

  • this is incredible, i just got it today, you can do everything with it. Good old AC/DC to classic rock n roll. Its also nice when you put it on top of the high gain on your amp, the tone is just epic. I can now get Slash and Metallica tone :)

  • is this good for metal?

i know kirk hammett uses this

  • will this pedal sound good or the same as now in a bugera v22 vintage and an ibanez rg 350 or americans hss strat will it get enough tight distortion??

  • some solid states are good (fender stage 160 for ex.) but distortion pedals stack up 1000 x better in front of tube amps than any solid state.

  • i'm buying this today!

  • I run a H.B thru a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I can dial in many famous MARSHALL sounds.

  • This is the first dist pedal that really impresed me. Works amazing with my tube amps and if you want that big marshall tone (without buying marshall stack) get it! And be carefull, there is no "low gain" setings. Gain on 12 o'clock is enough! Great dynamics, articulation and EQ! Cool thing.

  • Wats the difference with a POD XT Live and a POD XT?

  • you should problably ask that question on a video about a pod.

  • This pedal matches better with tube amps than solid state (as do the rest of every other pedal). I had trouble with some valvetronix amps in getting more "presence". Although on a bogner alchemist, this pedal works like a dream!!

  • I disagree. I have a Mesa, and this pedal sounds much better through a Roland Jazz Chorus. It sounds almost exactly like Slash's tone on "Appetite for Destruction" through it.

  • ... this has got to be a mistake but I'd be willing to try just to see.

slash's tone on appetite was 3 parts JMP + added gain stage (modded) and 2 parts studio magic (EQ, mic placement, etc). if your saying a pedal and a jazz chorus can do anything near that ... I'm buying it all tomorrow.

  • "Almost". It's very good still, especially with a Les Paul on the neck pickup position.

  • I have an epiphone les paul standard..but would this work well on a vox ad50 vt valvetronix amp?

  • Solid state amps arej ust crap. They're only good for home practice, nothing else... and even there, the response is not optimal

  • There are some actual good solid-state amps, it's just that most people buy cheap, more consumer-friendly solid states that sound like anus. For instance, the Vetta is a very quality solid-state amp, but out of an acceptable price range for most people looking to buy a solid-state.

  • Not all solid-states are crap. Get off the bandwagon. It' is un-informed people like you who go around telling people this shit and that is how good solid-states got dis-continued and now we are left with shit like Marshall MG's.

  • no kiddin, i got a fender 50th anniv. princeton 112 plus off my buddy's dad, amazing tone for 100 bucks

  • @MightyPwned dude ive got a 1984 marshall solid state and its killer. the tone is articulate but nasty. youre right about the mg.

  • @MightyPwned I agree, dude.

I sold a Marshall G80RCD to a friend of mine, and over the last couple years have been playing a 73 Twin Reverb.... HOWEVER, I did play that Marshall a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't believe how good it sounded... the clean channel is absolutely crisp and beautiful, and the crunch channel (now that I know how to dial it in better) sounded killer too. I still prefer my TR, but almost wanted to buy the Marshall back... :S

  • @MightyPwned I know... Like randall made some pretty good shit back in the day.

  • @MightyPwned

my peavey transtube is the most organic sounding ss I have ever played

  • @MightyPwned I'd still rather own a tube amp man..

  • @MightyPwned But the Marshall MG100HDFX sounds so amazing. How can you say the MG100HDFX sounds bad? It has no harsh treble to destroy your ears, as some other solid states do. It has a really nice, fat, bassy tone. Just because it's not the Tube sound doesn't mean it's not good. Tube sound is not the desired sound for everybody. Maybe some people think it sounds too empty or maybe it's not modern enough (not my opinions, but still). I'm just saying, the MG series has some good sounding tone.

  • @sakenem I dunno bro, I had an MG30DFX, and I thought it was the bees knees... for about a month... I wish I never blew the money on it... now I wouldn't even spend $20 on it... all-in-all the MG series simply sux...

  • @MightyPwnedi agree with you 100% but we still have line 6 amps and tech 21 solid state amps and they are great! and yeah marshall mg's are terrible.

  • @t0psecretshit line 6 suck too imo! for me the best solid state amps are the carvins!

  • @MightyPwned Ummm I think Line 6 destroyed the name for SS amps. Carvin does rock, I saw someone comment that. There's just a wider variety of tube amps that surpass SS.

  • @MightyPwned

    Agree 100%

A lot of it comes from people who have never even played tube amps. At low volumes it's pretty much a non factor if you have a solid state or tube amp.

  • Comment removed

  • @MightyPwned You know what you're talking about, my friend! I've shocked and awed many - including myself - with my Peavey Transtube 100 head. Even at the NAMM show ('92?) when it debuted, it was blind-compared with a Marshall valve amp and people couldn't tell the difference!

(btw you might want to check out the new Retro Channel RR1 amp - it'll prove your statement even more so!)

    \m/

  • @MightyPwned yeah. tech 21 trademark series are awesome sounding solid state amps..

  • @MightyPwned

i second that, i just got myself an old 70's yamaha g50 112 and it takes pedals amazingly and it sounds nice, warm and full

  • *sigh*.

Of course this pedal doesn't work with your Vox Valvetronix well. The vox is a modelling amp! Pedals don't work well with modelling amps!

  • maby it would work if u just put it on the clean setting

  • sounds ok, but i didn't hear anything that would replace my damage control solid metal pedal...

  • So a friend was telling me about these and how great they were so i decided to try one next time i was at the guitar store. so i asked about one tonight at samash and when i sat down and played it was like "ohmahgoodness!!"

  • is this pedal meant for a tube amp or will it be okay with a solid state?

  • well I've never played this particular one, but i've played the london bones, and the plexitube, and both sounded amazing through the solid state i was playing through (line 6). I'm pretty sure that this pedal will be no different and sound great regardless of the amp you use it with.

  • Depends on the solid state itself, whether its good quality (Vox Valvetronix) or terrible (no name import crap), as the speaker and actual amp color the sound quite a bit. He's also using a boutique 65 Amp SoHo in the demo, which is a 2000+ amp; this contributes to the tone as well.

But as long as your putting the pedal in front of the amp into a clean signal though....... it should still sound mostly like this, but not quite as nice.

  • i played this through a solid state marshall mg hd 100 combo on my dean 79 ml and it took the flat, smooth sound i was looking to replace with this high gain thin screaming sound when i set it right, it sounded amazing and boosed the gain very well i found, i loved , but i hate the price lol

  • @drakeguitar1 it depends on the solid state. the Roland JC-120 is a good example of a very good solid state.

  • would it be good as a preamp with a kanjii eternity in front of it? I mean low gain on this one and kanji for a solo/boost?

  • hi

can any one of you guys tell me if this pedal could be using on death metal bands. or what pedal is the right one to use it on that kind of music style.

    regards

  • hey. you could, but I wouldn't. look up the fullbore metal by MXR. these guys do a good demo with it. that'd probably be better for death metal.

  • id just quit the band, get out of death metal right away. its beyond shit and people just laugh at it

  • I actually kind of agree, people will laugh at you, extensively if you run around stage with long flowing hair, while your head-banging and shouting words that we cant understand in a deep demonic voice. If you want to play death metal, good for you because you have the courage to put on a kick ass show while people are making fun of you

  • except the people that paid to see a death metal show. someones always making fun of someone, don't act like death metal is the only comical genre. they all are. some geezer playing blues licks while moving his mouth like he's making out with an invisible groupie is just as funny. or some jazz guitarist falling asleep from shooting too much dope, ect, ect.

  • Both this and the plexitube sound awesome, im probly gonna buy one or the other. I play a fender stratocaster HSS through a fender hot rod deville amp. I play alternative and rock music, but also play in a worship band at my church. i think im gonna go with the plexitube for a more modern sound.

  • i would too, purely for the separate channels on the plexi for the switch between the rythm and lead channel.

  • im buying this and a fender princeton...oh yeah!!!! its gonna be awesome

  • what pedal do you think is the best for slash's tones?

  • probably this one... if you really want a true slash tone it is simply the classical les paul- marshall combination

  • This pedal absolutely rocks. Our band had to travel overseas a couple of years back and I couldn't take my Mesa Head with me so I was looking for something that would do at least HALF the job of a true tube amp. I bought this AND the Classic thinking i would return one and the other after the trip.

To save some words, I kep both and they now sit in my rack. SOUNDS REAL, VERSATILE, REALLY DYNAMIC REACTION. Try one, buy one, you'll never regret it.

  • Great video! Thanks for the time spent putting together a great presentation. I have the Trimode Classic. I play a Kramer Telecaster (mid '80s) and a Parker Nitefly through a THD BiValve 30. I use various cabs and tubes. The Trimode adds so much. The EQ features are amazing. The difference between the lead and the rhythm channels is amazing. If you love tone just as much as distortion just choose between the Trimode and the Plexi. Trimode for me! Just choose either one and you'll rock!

  • just the pedal i'm looking for!!

  • would this be good for Van Halen tones?

  • I have this pedal but the volume is really low. When I put the pedal's volume at around 2'oclock it only sounds about half as loud as the clean channel. I have to put the volume at around 4'oclock just to match volume. Could it be the tube or something else?

  • i have the same problem i change the valve to a JJ tesla 12AX7...my level is about 3/4 'o clock...becuase il i put the midrange boost begin to get more darker...after you pely along whit it the swicth must be change....i have to change the switch on the solo channel

  • Ditto: What has more useable gain the hot brit or plexi?

  • the plexi is supposed to be modelled off the hot british but i must say i prefer the hot british but that second channel on the plexi does give you more options. that said i have only tried these at the shop and dont own either.

  • Yeah, they probably have similar amounts of gain.

  • What has more useable gain the hot brit or plexi? thanks

  • there's a real tube on this pedal...do you have to changed the tube? if yes.. how long does the tube lasts? if u used it everyday..thanks

  • they usually last a very long time. You most likely wont have to change it.

  • Yeah kablesP is right about it lasting a long time but, you'll know when to change the tube when the tone is faded away, my friend has a rocker 30

orange and he had to change the tubes when

the tone faded away, but it took a long fucking time

for it to just 'fade away'

  • in terms of years how long it will last given the fact that it is used for 28hrs per week

  • bigskymind81 I own one of these pedals and ultimately it depends on how much you use it I had to change the tube out at right around 2 years of use and I use it alot (Hint: change the tube to a ruby High Gain 12AX7 sounds amazing)...

  • thing i love about this pedal is it sounds so good that i get inspired to play more creatively, because of just how good anything will sound on it. thats what good gear should do

  • this is what kirk hammett uses. it's an incredible pedal

  • Line 6 developers should be ashamed of their products. Wonder how they sleep peddling garbage for a living?

  • Which one you like better, this one or the PlexiTube? And can anyone tell me the difference between these two pedals?

    thanks!

  • plexitube is like 2 hot british because she have 2 channel. but i prefer get a hot british and classic one for close price. hot british have to much distortion for my taste when i need overdrive. but for heavy sound wow...

  • well I'm more of a plexi tube guy. reason being, as far as I can tell, it has more gain on tap. aside from that, it has 2 separate channels, so you can have one set louder to cut through the mix for leads. in addition, one of the channels has a loop setting to add separate effects like phaser, delay and others.

  • LET THERE BE ROOOOOOOOOOOOCK!

  • This pedal really sounds good...

  • could i get oasis tones out of this? because i play alot of blues and got like blues overdrive things and stuff but i want something to play like oasis stuff on and everything not blues

  • For more bluesy stuff you might want to check out the radial tonebone classic (blue pedal) because the "drive" control can be a bit strong. Watch from 6:30 on and decide for yourself. It depends on taste. ;)

  • Which pedal would I get first ( I'll buy them both eventually) knowing I have a les paul?

The Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail or the Radial Tonebone Hot British ?

    Thanks !!!

  • it depends on what your playing. if your amp has a reverb, i'd definitely get a hot british. If your amp doesn't have reverb, you have to decide for yourself. i'd get the Hot british because distortion is really fundemental and reverb is kinda ike the icing on the cake. But its up to you

  • well it has, but it's not a real good reverb ^^

but i think i'm gonna listen to your advise and buy the distortion first!!!

    thanks

  • Reverb?

Check out Line6 Verbzilla and E. Harmonix Holy Stain & Holy Grail plus

  • nou heb ik eigenlijk nog 1 vraag aan jouw, wat voor en compressor zal jij gebruiken voor het spelen van guns n roses? ik heb nou en marshall ed-1 compressor. of advieseer je mij en ander te nemen.

  • I have this and will tell you it is an amazing pedal, however, like most pedals you really need to sit with it and toy around to understand the range of sounds you have. The knobs can be sensitive, but very effective. I have pulled overdrive sounds, Big Muff or older fuzz pedal sounds (kick everything flat on sliders), Marshall crunch, and stuff close to metal. Considering the number of sounds you get, it's worth the price. This video barely scrapes the surface.

  • i want

  • do these pedals work with a 75 watt line 6 amp?

  • to be blunt, all pedals work with all amps

  • i have that disto and it's sound just gr8 but it's hard work to learn this effect

  • I think it depends on what kind of music you gonna play. Like you like sport car but you better not to say that classic car suck. If you think like that you're just an asshole.

  • listen to hillsong united nigel hendroff uses some tonebone pedals

  • This pedal sounds good.
