  • Words don't do her justice.

  • 19 when she created this album. CHRIST.......I feel so lazy :/

  • Woah Tori and Alanis ripped off this fetal position pose in their album art.

  • Seven people somehow lost the child in their eyes... I pity them...

  • @BartManNL They must have clicked the wrong button :-)

  • Beautiful and a good song too.

  • @parstark I would have to respectfully disagree with that statement basically every song on the kick inside was amazing and wow is one of her greatest songs in my opinion.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)

  • Probably the best female songwriter this country has produced in the last 40 years. A very unique talent.

  • The first bit if soooo creepy!

  • Very special song from a very special talent...Always stops me dead in my tracks whenever I hear it. Sublime.

  • Female genius !

  • @OxenOrb - I go through life laughing like a drain. Particularly when I read your posts. Hahaha!

  • @OxenOrb -. Ah don't give up so easy young fella - I might take it to mean that you've not really got a leg to stand on. Bob Dylan worked so hard in the '60s so that sensitive boys with acoustic guitars could defend the right of Neanderthals to draw attention to a teenage girl's tits and end the post with 3 exclamation marks. Must try harder.

  • @OxenOrb - I'm much older than you, kid - I think I'll be the judge of what I take seriously or not. Do you think that if I went to Peter Gabriel's board and all I had to say about a song like 'Don't give up' is 'Wow - he always had a wonderful cock' that his fans would award that 37 thumbs up? We haven't started off in society as equals - it is not OK to perpetuate this particularly ugly kind of sexism. About one thing you don't have to worry though - I could never take you seriously.

  • Maybe she's singing about Doctor Who.

  • SoYouThinkYouCanDance <3

  • "most men are really children at heart" or a young man trapped in an old mans body.....

That would be true about me, I think. :(

  • something precious

  • Where's my damn time machine?

  • @gargoyle666 Take me with you when you find it!

  • Perfect.

  • @katebushisagenius

YES - thats exactly what it is :)

  • awesome song from one of the UKs best performing artists , you never knew what her music vids were gonna be like - mean that in a good way off course :)

  • ♥ .

  • I LOVE KATE BUSH. She melts my heart and lifts my soul, she inspires my dreams and increases my desire for love. Love you Kate, now and forever !!!!!!!!

  • the sheer versatility of her lyrics...

  • Only 165,942 views!? People are idiots.

This is her best song and in my top 100 songs of all time!

  • @brightlights456X

give me your full list! :)

  • @dolunaydainsanolan

Not enough space. I will say though. This song is ranked nomber 76 in my all time top 100 songs.

  • This girl is gonna make it

  • Such a beautiful song, video and routine. Shame this video is ruined by a load of pigheaded man comments like OMHZFG KATE HAS GR8 TITS

  • @jessieintheskywith

    Ugh....tell me about!

  • @jessieintheskywith

    indeedy

  • same scene in Toxic

  • Goddess! Thanks for posting!

  • she is stunningly beautiful, has a voice of an angel and dances like an air nymph. also, her imagination is incredible. she was one of the first true 'alternative' female artists that moved out of the 'middle of the road'. lyrics wise she's a pure poet putting words to melody.

  • the only woman i would have allowed to sit on my ducati 900ss ! that's a huge huge thing in my world ! lol

  • Fond memories of those times.... The music charts were just littered with talent, week after week. Some of the most iconic songs and performances, the 70`s were absolutely amazing.... A great time to be growing up. I wish people on today`s tv would forget trying to be famous for the wrong reasons and channel their efforts into making creative music instead

  • i can really relate to this, the overwhelming feeling a person has at the start of a relationship that they're going to loose that person they hold so dearly...it's one of the strongest emotional feelings ive ever had...it hurts so much...but theres something wonderful about that pain...the fact you can love somebody so stronly that the very thought of loosing them makes your heart skip a beat..

  • I bought this album when I was 12 and identified with it then - it's not about any dirty old man etc - it's about that feeling of overwhelming love you have for someone who you want to be there forever

  • A lady with class ,never a tabloid story ... my mate went to a small time production in a low key theatre and had a fag with her at the interval !! again absolute class ..

  • Wow, she wrote this between 12 and 14 years of age. And today they have Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga? How sad.

  • @daven58100 its a fair point I suppose. But then I like ms gaga. and I wouldnt kick miley out of bed for farting...

  • @daven58100 Who is this Miley in Cyprus? Pardon me it's my age you see.

  • @Thebritishgent Miley Cyrus is the girl playing Hannah Montana in the film and TV series. She has also started making records under her own name. If you haven't heard her, you haven't missed anything.

  • @Thebritishgent Don't know if you're serious, but i'll respond. Miley Cyrus is a product of american entertainment marketing. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, is a somewhat famous country music performer. He got his daughter into tv, movies, and music where she got very famous here. And rich, despite having very little talent. Also, I enjoyed reading your profile. Very funny.

  • I'm obsessed by that look she does at 19 seconds - sultry

  • @smithhedgehog Yes i agree sir. Sultry and sexy but somehow she fails to realise.....or does she?

  • @Thebritishgent I think she MUST know

  • she is great and so beautiful

  • If she met me, looked at my face, I would be the man with the child in my eyes Any man would.

  • Geile Frau....tolle Sängerin und absolut klasse Song !!!

  • she's hot and a genius

  • I don't care if people think Kate Bush is weird, I think she's beautiful and talented. She wrote this song just as a teenager, that's more than what any modern artist can do. Her voice is so angelic, soft yet powerful. Natural beauty.

  • @TheEpicMusicChannel

    Too damn right.

  • I can remember myself hearing this song and seeing this video for the first time in 1978, feeling very, very fourteen years old. The music of Kate Bush knocked on every door and every window. Still does.

  • I remember reading an interview she gave in a music magazine in1978. When she was asked where all the inspiration came from, she said it just flowed out like diarrhea. A typically modest and honest response from her. All of her work is just beautiful.

  • @kirkwallboy this is so true. sometimes i can write so many songs or half songs/song ideas and it just flows... then nothing for weeks. she is very correcxt. the creative processs is so fickle.

  • My favourite Kate Bush song.

  • NONO XX

  • Is that a see through outfit shes wearing? There's nothing wrong with attempting to squint harder to make out detail, I wasn't even born when this song came out and I am currently 27, Kate is phenomenal. From her beauty, to her voice. Just amazing.

  • Spotted 30 years later:

1 0.39 a slight bump as Kate lies on the ground

2 2.10 Kate attempts to blow her fringe out of the way

  • @misterjoecool Thats what makes a good video.

  • She wrote this song when she was 12? Damn, I could never write something like this when I was that age!

  • Wow goosebumps watching her in this :D

  • I'm 18 and a huge kate bush fan even though I've discovered her quite recently. She connects to the root of my soul in every song and this made me cry.

  • Ahh naked kate! D: Why

  • she's kind of "delicate" and melodic but never cheesy!!!

this is an unbelievieble gift and stranght!

  • Beautiful song sung with such grace and innocence :-)

  • Kate bush has never repeated the success of her 2 songs "Wuthering heights", and "The man with he child in his eyes" but it matters not. she has given us two of the most important songs in the last half century. God bless you my dear

  • Probably the most beautiful female singer ever.

  • There are so many possible interpretations of Kate's material here. I believe she was thoughtful about every aspect of her presentation. I think her gestures are deliberately leading and her make up and gestures also. She knows what affect she wants.

  • Timeless video.

  • i can't actually put into words what i think about this song

  • I'm not saying its not good, its brill, but it DOES remind me of being in my parents car aged 7... Usually played at leats twice depending on journey length. Wish they had more than just the 3 cassettes! [CUE MANDATORY 'LADY GAGA' COMPARISON WHEN COMMENTING ON KATE BUSH YOUTUBE FOOTAGE...] I suppose all the kids of today will remember from their parents cars are Lady Gaga and Westlife!

  • what a wonderful song

  • How does someone so young write such depth?

  • wonderful, wonderful song

  • something that is often overlooked, kate had a stonking pair of tits!!

  • @snake35 "Stonking" translation: very good, exceptional

  • @snake35 good shout, i quite agree

  • @snake35 I fully concur. Absolutely magnificent.

  • @snake35 Ugh

  • @snake35 I have never overlooked that fact in my life! :P

  • @snake35 - Not while you're around though eh 'snake' ? (did you get that name from Kurt Russell in 'Escape from New York'?) Nice way to objectify and debase an important female singer songwriter. One of the few female artists that girls can look up to as an example of a female enduring talent triumphing over burlesque desperados like Rihanna etc. Did you get here by mistake - meant to type in Katy Perry?

  • Artists like Kate Bush are for eternity and are engraved in our souls.

  • oh god.... a fucking angel!!! sorry.. a sweet beautful angel!!! a magically, wondrous air nymph floating amongst the isles of greece with an old man exiled from his country

  • The three unlikers are profoundly insane.

  • Beautiful

  • Great song and so well sung by Kate !

  • One of my first crushes as a 16yo... Luv you Kate... The Red Pill Program dot com

  • Thumbs up if Alan Partridge sent you here.

  • life was great and free then

    unlike now

  • Kate looks better and younger in this vid than she does in a lot her other pre-80s vids, and I think I know why. In some vids she or whoever it was used to slap the makeup on Kate with a trowel especially the eye makeup, and though she didn't look horrible with all of that makeup on in other vids, she does look no younger than 28 or 29 in them.

This is why I can't even believe she was 21 around this time. She looks most of the time like she was 30 in these vids!

  • @jrmetmoi Actually she was 19 when she made this video.

  • @jrmetmoi don't you think it's even a tinsy winsy teeny weeny bit sad that you have to dedicate 7 lines of comment to what Kate looked/looks like and 0 lines to the music??

  • @shaggybristol Nnnnnnope! That eye makeup that she had on in her other vids in the 70s BESIDES this vid I mean added 10 years to her age, therefore making it hard to know that she was 19, 20 or 21 years old back when these vids were made.

Whatever Kate looked like she was between 27 to 29 years old when she made most of these vids because her makeup was troweled on, especially round her eyes. Case closed.

  • @jrmetmoi age is just a number, her beauty always shone through as did her incredible talent.

  • just enjoy the fukin music man u daft twats ... always lookin forsomething thats not there u sad bastards

  • "I just took a trip on my love for him"

  • She wrote this when she was 14 according to Kates biography.

  • Absolutely beautiful song! really makes you love the innocent young girl she was at the time it was written.

  • Wow, her voice is amazing!! I wish my hair was that beautifull

  • MARY LOVES this song so SO much, she keeps singing it to me :-)

  • And by "twice her age", I mean the age Kate was when she recorded TKI, 18-19.

  • Man, where does that genius come from? I can't believe that she was writing songs like this at such a tender age! It still amazes me that The Kick Inside came from a teenager, it's an album that even artists twice her age would have a hard time matching its quality.

  • I hear (and listen again) to tunes like this...

...and I thank God for Great Britain. What a collection of musical talent those islands has given us all over the years.

  • This is definitely my favourite Kate Bush track ; it is a sublime piece of music, as good as anyones with its chords and melody

  • What has happened more often than not in the 'Pop' music business is that after a huge single success, a 'new' artist, by which i mean once theyve secured a contract, records an album once the first single has been a hit and then what appears as a second single is recorded at the same time as the first album. Even The Beatles recorded most of their debut album after the huge success of their second single

  • My first love! She is a FairyQueen.....bland and tender.

  • Funny how this famous 'He's here' intro is not on the album, but found only on the original 45 single release

  • @kenfig That's because that intro wasn't on the original recording. Kate recorded this song in 1975 together with "The Saxophone Song". She added the "He's here" intro when this song was released as a single in May 1978.

  • @Symphonyofflowers Yes, i have the album but although it says what you have about 1975 in the cover notes, i didnt realise until now that the album was released as early as February, when previously i had assumed for some reason that much of the album would have been recorded after the success of W.H. and been released about June / July, when of course i remember hearing TMWTCIHE regularly on the radio,as it was in the top 10 ; thanks for that anyway

  • @kenfig Yes, apart from those two songs recorded in 1975 the whole album was recorded in July and August 1977 and released in February 1978.

  • @podyonkers And by the way, both Kate and her family are Catholics. And as you probably know, Catholic priests aren't allowed to get married or have children. So Kate's father couldn't have been a priest anyway.

  • @pod yonkers

As already mentioned,Kate's dad was a doctor.

You may be thinking of Alice Cooper,or Lemmy Kilmister.

Hard to confuse them with Kate though!.

Kate's parents Robert, who passed away in 2008, and her late her mother Hannah ,were both very musical' and encouraged and supported their children's talent.

For that, the world is eternally grateful..

  • Einfach sinnlich - eines meiner vielen Lieblingsstücke von dieser hübschen kleinen Fee. Ich habe ihre Musik immer gemocht....

  • wonderful

  • sexy beast!

  • the orchestration blows me away. The piano, the strings, oboes, bassoons, English horns! Beautiful!!!

  • its about love. there is no pain here

  • this song makes me feel so serene about love...

  • i love you

please learn to trust in it

  • such a beautiful piano score behind this song.................genius..

  • British singers are the best in the world - kate is living proof

  • Wonderful song :)

  • from a time when music meant something

  • i have a child inside me and i am not a man, i am very childlike

  • One word, Beautiful.

  • shes so young here, her acting is less dramatic and expresive compared to her later work. especially her eyes, they do not open as wide as she does later. It's so cool to see how she progressed

  • I would have loved to have been her starry eyed man.

Anyway when i hear her magical music, its great to realise that all the writing, arranging, performances and production were mainly done by her.....truely her own music.

I've got to agree with rekoonsghjkl....Kate Bush is a total genius!

  • Kate your so beautiful wish I could have been with you. Your pretty, sexy, smart, a total genius..........

  • @rekoonsghjkl

Yeah, but legend has it that back then, she had a veritable tribe of older brothers who would gladly kill you if you so much as mentioned the word "Breast" in her company,or even if they though that you thought that she was good to look upon!.

    Kate=good,Hoard of angry Anglo-Irishmen killing you=bad.

  • @neohip guess they would have killed me then. It would be worth 5 seconds in her presence.

  • @rekoonsghjkl

I sort of understand, but Kate is a "normal human being",just like your mother or a Sister, if you have one.

Yes she was a very lovely "Product" in her first few years. In the late 70's,their was nothing like her,and their still isn't.

Now we have people who are influeced and frankly couln't exist without her.,but they have never come close.

Her genius is in her music, and she would be horrified about what you said!.

She is a human being with an extraordinary talent!.

  • @neohip I love Kate she is a fantastic musician. I love her voice too. This is one of my favourite songs. Why would she be horrified?

  • @rekoonsghjkl

I apologise for any misunderstanding. I am a fan too.

I was exaggerating to a point;she really does have brothers who lovingly protected her, and weren't above threatening photographers and such.,but I was 10 years old when I discovered her,in 1978.I thought she was brilliant without all the hype we get today from todays "artists".

I did notice "other things" when I hit puberty in 1980,and my love is still grounded in her music, not how pretty she was/is.

  • @neohip Well I when I first discovered her I didn't even think of her as sexy just this beautiful women who was very talented and someone I should have known about. She seems like a very gentle person. I heard she rarely gets angry and that she has getting into arguments. She reminds me of a girl I liked. When you see her talk in an interview she seems so happy and a great person to talk to. Anyway you have a nice day my friend.

  • @rekoonsghjkl

    We are agreed then.

However,if you love music,I would implore you to listen to Anne Briggs, and Sandy Denny.

Two earlier British women, who were easily Kate's equal,if not as original and daring.

Indeed Kate wouldn't exist without them.

  • @neohip Thanks well I'm open to all music so can't hurt for me to take a look. Well without all the people from the past their would be no one now. Like all the 60's band like the beatles and Led zeppelin they wouldn't be here with out the 50's blues rock.

  • Fabulous song :D Kate bush is a legend and this is my fav Kate bush song

  • I'm amazed that you can't see that this song is basically about a young girl's fantasy lover...he isn't real!!!!!

  • @edinburghmarc, i won't disagree with that mate

  • Kate bush is a legend a her music will live on forever! A very talented person! xxx

  • dreamy

  • une émotion toute particulière pour une icone de la chanson internationale. Kate incarne à mes yeux la sublimisence, une femme d'une beauté pure et une voix inégalable. I love you Madame.

  • This is one of the world's most beautiful ballads.

This is song orchestration at it's very best.

  • Her talent was discovered by David Gilmour

  • @Pink000Floyd.Yes,the great guitarist of one of my five favourite bands discovered my favourite female singer.Thank you David and thank you Kate.

  • The version y'all are seeking, from that US TV show, can be found on a Russian site. Use no spaces when you translate this addy: h t t p colon forward slash forward slash vbox7 dott com forward slash play colon d724662

I had to refresh a few times to get it to play well, but it's complete. She is AMAZING in it, sitting on top of the grand piano and singing live while executing some difficult yoga poses. :-) She sounds perfect and looks...well, perfect.

  • So beautiful what more can you say

  • I've always loved Kate Bush especially this song, and as a teenager people used to say how much I looked like her, and I really disliked it, but now looking back it was a nice complement.

  • My fav Kate Bush song.

  • What a simply beautiful song. I purchased the 45 back in the day....still love this song and love Kate!

  • ENGLISH ROSE XX great singer one of the best

  • This song is so gorgeous. Thank you for sharing. :)

  • Incredible, pity she's not around anymore instead of all this rap/dance bullshit that seems to be the norm :(

  • beautiful song.......beautiful lady

  • You have to understand something about Kate Bush. My intro to her was SNL...where she performed this song "atop a piano" whilst "contorting like a gymnast". As a teen I blew it off as just artsy...

...but it stuck. Thirty plus years later - with two kids, some hard earned patience and a sense of live and let live - I rediscovered this as a truly, truly epic lyric.

    By a gorgeous woman...

  • For all you idiots out there this is just an INNOCENT song, from a time when life was more innocent itself.

  • This always reminds me of the film 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir' - the lyrics sort of fit too.

  • @scampben I cant explain why but I have always thought the same thing. More than 32 years. Perhaps because the "ghost" was a salty old seaman.

  • This is etheral!

  • it's a sad endictment of the world that every song that ever mentions a man (with a beautiful woman involved) should be about some pervert or some sexual deviant. Thank you world press...you have made pure genius ignored and Simon Cowell a rich man....pricks!

  • @neil1963creed well said, Fred! a woman played it to me and i wept buckets.

  • @FigmentSALabel Thanks my friend!

  • @neil1963creed Kate herself sung of lust towards an underage boy. I agree with you though. It's about the art . It's not real.

  • @DEROUGET If you're thinking about "The Infant Kiss", that song was inspired by the film "The Innocents" from 1961. The song is not about herself.

  • @neil1963creed We are sexual beings.

  • @neil1963creed Yet strangely enough some American chick recently came out with a book called Tiger Tiger that sort of meshes your comment with the title of this song! Just sayin is all....

  • Simply beautiful - when some artists shine, they really shine.
