the answer Mr. Manson is the same thing Samuel L. Jackson said on his Rollins interview...unfortunately the government gets away with the things they get away with because our quality of life hasnt suffered enough....we are force fed convenience and I personally believe it is to subdue the masses...we are no more likely to revolt and wait for change as we are likely to wait more than 1 minute for a made to order hamburger, we have traded our sense of patience in the worthwhile for convience
Hard to say if Rollins really likes the man, but that two artists, even with very differing breadths of awareness, can come together and talk in a way that promotes the humanity of both speaks more volumes for human progress by way of art than Charles Dickens did with Great Expectations and others. Nice to be reminded that there is an original meaning to, and the source of, Degenerate art, even if this Tweedledum says dumdidada and moves on.

So america is "freedom of speech"? Scream "communism's the way to go and there is no God!" in Littletown. Maybe travel the world first before dividing it into Free America and Totalitarian Countries? MM talks about this at 1'55". US people are being manipulated into thinking they're free in the best country ever, so they behave like sheep and quit aspiring to anything. The US' lack of knowledge about other societies alongside the US' deep belief of knowing it all is always stunning.

@UWETHEGOAT With a comment like that I'll assume that you've met and had meaningful conversations with hundreds and hundreds of Americans from which to form an opinion. I myself have met maybe 10 Brits in my entire life (one being a childhood friend and her mother) and I couldn't make a sound opinion on all Brits based on this without sounding like an arshole myself.
As an all-too-often misunderstood person because of various viewpoints of those around me who dismiss my views without fully understanding them, I can understand his frustration.
He's got this one wrong. It's not the artists that take new things into the world, but engineers, scientists or entrepreneurs. Artists may at best find some meaning in them, which is valuable. But mostly they are just entertainers. What percentage of time does an average person listen to music for fun, and for meaningful message? Or maybe - how many of us ever did get such a message and ACTED on it with some RESULTS?
@Peteruspl One could argue that by the definition of "One who creates things" engineers, scientists, and some entrepreneurs are artists as well. There is a difference between an artist and an entertainer as well. Entertainers do it for the money, artists do it because they love the expression.
I thought Henry Rollins was a smart man, but I didn't really expect him to be such a redneck. "America, America, America..." a lot of people the world over watch you, you put a smart man with a story onstage, and all you have to talk about is America?
Maybe that's because he is an American and this is an American show. I wouldn't watch some show made in Italy and complain about how they talk about Italy? If you don't like it don't watch simple enough.
You are fucking retarded. Watch the video again and then try to understand why he talks about America so much. I know this sounds very hard, but I believe in you.
It's not just the Right Destroying America. It's our whole Government. Great interview. I remember all the crap MM got for Columbine. I lived in Colorado at the time and the media was being so ridiculous towards him. So much infact they were acting like he was at the school with them shooting.
I've only listened to his music a couple of times and it's not my cup of tea. But I'd have a lot of time to have a conversation with Mr. Warner himself.
Henry Rollins eats feces. You can just tell a man that loves eating other men's feces and that look is all over Henny's face. Maybe he learned that in fascist prep school in the super rich DC neighborhood he grew up in?
Marilyn Manson has to be the number one destroyer of prejudices in the US. Even Bill O'reilly were almost respectable towards him, almost more respectable than David Letterman, which is.. I don't know. Anyway he's really intelligent and well spoken. Can't stand his music, but i have a lot of respect for the guy
Marilyn Manson has a very high opinion of himself and his profession. Aristotle was a genius. Plato and Aquinas were groundbreaking thinkers; this guy's a pop star.
@yankeesuperstar i've read his book + have most of the cd's. i agree with a lot of things he says and enjoy hearing his viewpoints. he's an intelligent guy for sure, but yea, manson is pretty egotistical at times. i enjoy some of his music, but i don't think it's as brilliant as some people make it out to be, just my opinion.
He is so intelligent.. and he had a perfectly normal childhood.. he's just someone who sacrificed his physical identity to make a political statement.. pure genius!
I remember seeing an interview with Marilyn Manson ages ago. Not a fan of his music, and he was just being a little passive-aggressive bitch. I am honestly shocked that he's showing some of the good stuff right here.
@TheRevshot You are a dumb fuck..first of all revise your shit so you dont sound like a dumbass who needs to go back to second grade to learn grammar. It's funny I didn't know this Henry Rollins had such a good show, when he played the borderline nazi fuck in the show "Sons of Anarchy" he did a really good job! a really hateful character!

Rollins still has balls. The fact that he is up there doing this show is an example of that. Not everyone stays on stage throwing punches and musicaly railing againts various causes for ever. He hasn't mellowed either..or if he has..sorry..its part of human nature for most as we age. Again he is looking for different outlets for his and others point of view(s). Just how has he evelved into something he despised? Because he is sitting on a couch instead of being on stage?
Very good interview. I'm not a fan of his music, but he is a very insightful person. I don't think there's any worry of him not being remembered as an artist; what more could anyone ask for?
@DerPoltergeist13 i also kind of think he acts as if he's super intellingent to make that next shocking thing about him...he's not so smart he just delivers what he says in a well-spoken way
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Poor Rollins. I hope his balls grow back but they shrank away gradually over a long period so alas I don't think it will happen. Isn't it funny to watch people evolve into the very things they so vocally despised in youth?
If I had a nickel for every interview where MM mentions the 'I didn't know you were so intelligent.' 'I didn't know you were so stupid.' joke I'd be effin' rich. IT WAS FUNNY THE FIRST 34 TIMES.
Basically he's saying what Nietzsche believed which is that artists are the most prestigious and beneficiaries to mankind. I think it's simply "creative" people in general, the field or discipline is no restraint. It doesn't matter what color or shade of glass you put in front of a bright light, if its not dim to begin with then you'll be able to spot it out among the beams of normal daylight.
wha i like about manson is that his style shines in all mediums. his cd's graphic design and concept is really good. his music videos are way cool. his fashion. etc
he's inspiring. but sometimes i can't take his anti-establishment bullshit. does he really know what he's talking about? I love how he describes people like himself as the most important influece on society. "religion and government just destroy things."
why don't you fly to the moon and try to start your own little society, then? see how that goes...
your totally right. Especially bankers and other funders (companies) run politics. They have the money, they call the shots. Maybe marilyn implied that when he said the right wing? i dunno, but i see what u mean he is usually a bit more intelligent than that. I would have expected a bit more detail from him.
two human beings having a conversation, what a novel concept for an interview. Nice job rollins, nothing wrong with watchin two artists speak their mind.
An artist is one of the only dignified things you can call yourself? What a pompous ass. I loved Manson's music and always found him to be an intelligent creator, but opposite of most people (who will be surprised by his articulate expressions) I find that his non-music messages are adolescent, self-absorbed, and insulting. Fuck you, Manson, from the bottom of my heart - but thanks for giving me something to do for the next five minutes while I go break the two CDs of yours I own.
Though I am not a big fan of his music, I will say that he speaks for me. I also strongly agree with what he says on many points. Most notable about the GEORGE ORWELL book 1984. All people of USA need to read that book. What got my attention to Marilyn Manson is his painting,he is a gifted and talented artist.
The only thing I don't agree with Manson is on the policies of the 'right wing'. I don't think the elites have a certain skew. They just go by what benefits them.
marilyn is right when he says that artist creates things verses politics destroys things.i'm an artist myself and my work is dark and unique in its own way and people think im a freak but my artwork shows an image that makes you think whats going on in this world and how simple minded people are.Manson is amazing and people need to leave him alone.
Calm the fuck down sir. Get off your high horse. Your art isn't anything more than your art. calm down and stop acting like Manson is saying anything that's at all enlightening.
I don't get it. If people would listen to his what he really says in his music...he is very political. He challenges perspectives and I think his image was purposely done too challenge our minds and see if we would still listen to him regardless of how he looks. Kinda like Jim Morrisson when he grew out he's beard.
Maybe YOUR tense..maybe you could use a break from your probs.. I suggest a tall lean glass of pink lemonaid..have a walk and bring a quarter along..scope the streets muh MAN!!!!!!!!
i love both of them and this was a great interview. i love how manson makes people think and how he's so unique. he says what he feels needs to be said whether they like it or not.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i dono. i really love both of them, and i was stoked to see this. but it seems like marilyn manson is losing his mind. i dont really like his new cd. and in this interview it just seems like hes being a whiny baby, not the parent hating, religeon destroying monster that i love. and rollins seems like a ball playing, good, decent father. i love them both, but i was kind of disappointed.
but marilyn mansons cd is completely about love. i dont think he sold out or anything, and i think he can do whatever he wants, but i cant relate to it anymore.
He got hammered by the Right, and it seems like he's putting it all together again, fitting himself back in society. I see a tested wisdom. Great admiration from here.
That was a good interview. When people in the public eye are demonised then I think you see in how they respond to that what their made of. Manson would not have qualified to be worth interviewing by Rollins before all of the Columbine stuff, but I respect him now for what he's been through. Rollins is a really good and sincere guy. You can tell from this interview that he respects Manson and can empathise with some of the suffering he's gone through. I thought it was touching.
Marilyn is VERY VERY BRIGHT, probable smarter then alot of ppl out there, and people think he is just an idiot who dresses funny. If they only knew 0.o
Marilyn Manson is not a singer ? And Speed of Pain ? Coma White ? Great Big White World ? In the Shadow of the Valley of Death ? Evidence ? Are you the rabbit ? They Said that's Hell not Hot ?
Wtf? that wasnt a diss to manson's music at all, dickhead. I was defending him. I was simply thinking of possibly any songs that he 'croaks' in. God u guys are idiots lol.
its no use defending your self against you tubers. they read maybe one or two words then decide its time to attack. It wasnt a negative comment. its the truth.
all you have to do is listen closely to the lyrics in his song and you would be nothing less of ignorant to believe manson is anything less of expressive and full of wisdom.

really interesting interview...felt i actually learned something...

Because he is sitting on a couch instead of being on stage?
scramyou 2 years ago 6
Very good interview. I'm not a fan of his music, but he is a very insightful person. I don't think there's any worry of him not being remembered as an artist; what more could anyone ask for?
robjirasama 3 years ago 53
@robjirasama i think what i will remember him for is his mind. Im not a fan of his music either.

before I actually watched manson in interviews, I kinda dismissed him and his music. I was completely wrong. He is a genius.

@DerPoltergeist13 i also kind of think he acts as if he's super intellingent to make that next shocking thing about him...he's not so smart he just delivers what he says in a well-spoken way

Hey, They always bring it up .and its a good line so why is it a problem?
theghostofyou13 3 years ago 3
Basically he's saying what Nietzsche believed which is that artists are the most prestigious and beneficiaries to mankind. I think it's simply "creative" people in general, the field or discipline is no restraint. It doesn't matter what color or shade of glass you put in front of a bright light, if its not dim to begin with then you'll be able to spot it out among the beams of normal daylight.
BlueBarrier782 3 years ago 4
wha i like about manson is that his style shines in all mediums. his cd's graphic design and concept is really good. his music videos are way cool. his fashion. etc
mindful1983 3 years ago 2
he's inspiring. but sometimes i can't take his anti-establishment bullshit. does he really know what he's talking about? I love how he describes people like himself as the most important influece on society. "religion and government just destroy things."
why don't you fly to the moon and try to start your own little society, then? see how that goes...

what an idiot. they bankers and media own both the right and left,
case closed
ne0nsurf 3 years ago
your totally right. Especially bankers and other funders (companies) run politics. They have the money, they call the shots. Maybe marilyn implied that when he said the right wing? i dunno, but i see what u mean he is usually a bit more intelligent than that. I would have expected a bit more detail from him.
abnegatingconformity 3 years ago
two human beings having a conversation, what a novel concept for an interview. Nice job rollins, nothing wrong with watchin two artists speak their mind.
schmotzegesicht 3 years ago 3
An artist is one of the only dignified things you can call yourself? What a pompous ass. I loved Manson's music and always found him to be an intelligent creator, but opposite of most people (who will be surprised by his articulate expressions) I find that his non-music messages are adolescent, self-absorbed, and insulting. Fuck you, Manson, from the bottom of my heart - but thanks for giving me something to do for the next five minutes while I go break the two CDs of yours I own.
pyrenaphen 3 years ago
Though I am not a big fan of his music, I will say that he speaks for me. I also strongly agree with what he says on many points. Most notable about the GEORGE ORWELL book 1984. All people of USA need to read that book. What got my attention to Marilyn Manson is his painting,he is a gifted and talented artist.

That book is awesome. And it really made me think about the world today.

The only thing I don't agree with Manson is on the policies of the 'right wing'. I don't think the elites have a certain skew. They just go by what benefits them.
khanriza 3 years ago
marilyn is right when he says that artist creates things verses politics destroys things.i'm an artist myself and my work is dark and unique in its own way and people think im a freak but my artwork shows an image that makes you think whats going on in this world and how simple minded people are.Manson is amazing and people need to leave him alone.
blackrose128 3 years ago 3

Calm the fuck down sir. Get off your high horse. Your art isn't anything more than your art. calm down and stop acting like Manson is saying anything that's at all enlightening.

SmokeingEars 3 years ago
I don't get it. If people would listen to his what he really says in his music...he is very political. He challenges perspectives and I think his image was purposely done too challenge our minds and see if we would still listen to him regardless of how he looks. Kinda like Jim Morrisson when he grew out he's beard.

Im a huge Rollins fan and Manson is o.k., although I wouldn't consider myself a fan. I thought the interview seemed kind of tense.

i dono. i really love both of them, and i was stoked to see this. but it seems like marilyn manson is losing his mind. i dont really like his new cd. and in this interview it just seems like hes being a whiny baby, not the parent hating, religeon destroying monster that i love. and rollins seems like a ball playing, good, decent father. i love them both, but i was kind of disappointed.

It's called growing up and the outlook on life, and what's important, change.

but marilyn mansons cd is completely about love. i dont think he sold out or anything, and i think he can do whatever he wants, but i cant relate to it anymore.
1fallchild 3 years ago
He got hammered by the Right, and it seems like he's putting it all together again, fitting himself back in society. I see a tested wisdom. Great admiration from here.

I really like Henry Rollins questions. I think that he's a good interviewer.
Notawesomeatall7 3 years ago 2
That was a good interview. When people in the public eye are demonised then I think you see in how they respond to that what their made of. Manson would not have qualified to be worth interviewing by Rollins before all of the Columbine stuff, but I respect him now for what he's been through. Rollins is a really good and sincere guy. You can tell from this interview that he respects Manson and can empathise with some of the suffering he's gone through. I thought it was touching.

Sorry, did he say he was practicing "Singing"?
Doesnt he mean "Croaking?"
I like Marylin Manson for what he is, but calling him a singer is a stretch.

Marilyn Manson is not a singer ? And Speed of Pain ? Coma White ? Great Big White World ? In the Shadow of the Valley of Death ? Evidence ? Are you the rabbit ? They Said that's Hell not Hot ?
Shesobelle 4 years ago
Lol, there's like what, 2 songs that he 'croaks' in? All i can think of:
Kinderfeld
Diary of a dope fiend
...and? :S
Velvetgoldmine92 4 years ago
Don't listen his music. Problem solved.
Shesobelle 4 years ago
