Thanks brother Pathaney Khan a great legend who can never be replaced. Great poetry sung with magical effect ....ONLY PATHANEY KHAN COULD DO IT >> May soul rest in peace
wwoooow really awesome!!! i was in my school age when i first listen this and at that time i didn't understand anything. now i m 25 and i really think this is like a MASTER PIECE so much deep information huh. and also the information provided by Mr. KhamoshTamashai about the Original Poet Khwaja Ghulam Farid saab and also The Singer: Pathaney Khan is really great. head off to all u guys........
greaaaat job man....always liked this song buh neva knew what is being said in it....thanks to your great translation now i can and must say i am in love with this song....great use for us lot that are not n pk and dont really understand without the translation...keep up the gud work.....
Someone asked here who is the poet referring to ! And as I have been hearing from my childhood that it is adressed to "God" as @Ghazunfar says. But if you look deeply filtering out the religious facade from this beautiful love poetry ..it is plain and simple ode to one's very much earthly beloved. I think the culture forced or atleast coerced artists to always hide emotions behind religion. The language is definitely pre-Islamic from much older tradition of the region, note words like" Sham"
God Bless you for all the hard work to share this wonderful piece with others. I heard this masterpiece 17 yeras ago on Pakistan TV for the first time and fell in love with it. Always wanted to understand the whole lyrics. After 17 years that wish came true, all thanks to all those who made this possible for me. I pray for you from the bottom of my heart!
I don't think it sounds stupid. In this kind of poetry, going back all the way back to Farsi ghazals of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi and Farid-ud Attar, Allah in spoken to in this manner. As a beloved. The love here is ishqe haqiqi عشقِ حقیقی. In one ghazal Mawlana Rumi talks about Allah as the King of Love (Shah-e Ishq) شاہِ عشق. So here the poet is talking about Allah. This is what I think.
@KhamoshTamashai Jazak'Allah for yur reply...i had an idea that was the answer, but i did not have enough knowledge, thanks a lot for uploading this diamond !
Of course he is talking abt ALLAH.. as he see Allah's presence in every avenue of his life. Basically, whatever he is naming here ... it is one way or another tied with the poet's relationship with ALLAH.
@Ghazunfar He is referring to Allah in the entire kafi. He is saying that all these things are you. You are everything, whether mine or not you are still everything................
Assalamoalikum, n thank you .....its a wonderful piece, it was very convenient to read the text too.... :) , could you tell me where i can get the text from? i need it for my research. i need it written on inpage or some other urdu software.... not in video form... could you please guide me???.... thanks again... :)
Wa-Alaikum-assalaam! There are books available in Pakistan. I have seen them in shops in Lahore and Rawalpindi. There is one with translation in Urdu by Hameedullah Shah Hashmi. You can also find the original text on apnaorgdotcom.

@Khamosh Tamashai, Awsome work bro, I wonder may be he begins to ask his "mehboob" to untie the knots... as apposed to "don't untie". You know, like we say... yeh kaam karo na mahi... as we are insisting to have someone do it rather then stoping someone from doing it. Please look into that for me. Again, fantastic job - JazakAllah khair.
@Rajaaaaa2009 : Thank you very much for your thought. I completely agree with you. It can be translated in both ways. In fact the way you translated it seems to be better. I will make the change.
I am lucky enough to listin this Legend Singer Phatana Khan at the URRS of Khwaja Ghumal Farid at Kot Mithan some 90 Miles from Dera Ghazi Khan. My late father was a govt officer and was posted at Kot Addu the home town of Phatana Khan. I passed my Inter Exam from Govt Collge Kot Addu. Phatana Khan,s Son Iqbal was my class fellow there. So I meet this great legend lots of lots time. Phatana khan was simple and Faqir type of Person. May his soul rest in Peace. Ameen
waoo this poetry cut ur heart and get to the depth of ur soul...And your whole universe get desolves in the bleedings...just close ur eyez and listen to it...Pathany Khan had special blessing to sing this Kalam, like no one else , can sing...
Without a doubt an outstanding audio quality and commendable work on lyrics' display. Though if I remember correctly, the original audio was around 16 mins long. :-) please correct me if i'm wrong! Thanks for the video!

Thank you brother for your comments. I will inshallah add English translation as annotations so that those who don't know Urdu can also understand. There are a couple of words about the meaning of which I am not 100% sure, but I will try to the best of my ability.
The key word here is گنڈھیاں (gandhian) which means knots. In rural Punjab, women tie knots on a string to keep track of days, especially if waiting for an event. The key word here is گنڈھیاں (gandhian) which means knots. In rural Punjab, women tie knots on a string to keep track of days, especially if waiting for an event. Knots corresponding to number of days left are tied first and then untied, one each day. In the second and fourth lines they also mean difficulties, and ties (as in tied).

The reason I did not write those lines was that I could not understand a few words as I do not speak Saraiki. I hoped some Saraiki speaking friend would help me out. Anyway, I am adding the annotations. A few words I am still not sure about, but I think the meaning is conveyed.
