Hey, I just purchased this cameraon ebay, but it did not come with an instruction manual. I researched how to load the film into the camera and everything seems to work okay. However I have to questions about the button functions. First, what is the function on the knob on the left side? (with the options OFF, R, RL, and 1). Second, what does the switch on the right side do? (with the options of a sun and a lightbulb). Feel free to inbox me if that is easier!
@turkeynuggettt Hi, the OFF simply turns the camera off so you don't wast batteries. The R position allows for the film trigger to be pressed. The RL (run lock) locks the trigger down so you don't have to physically press the film trigger in yourself. The 1 is a single frame function for animation. You will need a shutter release for this however.
The tungsten sun symbol will be set according to what type of film you are using. What film are you using?
@turkeynuggettt Make sure you set the filter to the bulb symbol. I know this sounds backwards but 100D film is daylight balanced film stock. So you will not need the filter in place.
i use a canon 514xl - s and i am shooting lots of scenes of a man walking towards or away from the camera (there's a bit more to it than that, but that's the crux of it.
i have already done a lot of the filming and just set it on wide angle and 10ft to infinity, so, i think i'll be ok. i have some worries about the film stock though - tri x on bright sunny days (when it's suited to low level lighting), but you can't control the english weather!
can i ask what setting you have the lens on to make it all appear in focus - particularly the bit where the person walks towards the camera? i need to film several shots that are similar and as there is no fixed focus i am worried about it all being blurred. many thanks.
@MrWolfhoward If you have good lighting situations then you should be OK as your depth of field will be great and you should be able to keep moving subjects in focus - dependant on where you set the focus. What camera are you shooting with and what are you shooting?

@gaugemymedia Thank you so much for the info! I'm using Canon Ektachrome 100D, that's how I stumbled across this video.

@gaugemymedia Okay, thank you. I'm just making sure my film isn't over-exposed when I get it developed.

@MrWolfhoward just adjust the focus slowly when the subject gets closer to you. Do a few practice runs first!

I love Nizos, this is where I started with super 8 - but the Canon 514 XL-S gives really lovely exposures and a different look! Nice little film!
