michael buffer annoys the hell out of me...jesus does he need to say all that shit about the wrestlers..its a wonder he doesnt say, "he had three shits today and jerked off an unprecedented 47 times this week"!
@jfleming23 Why is that bad? I always liked that he gave a background to the main events, for any casual or new viewer tuning in would get a little bit more insight. It's so much better than the boring monotone ring announcers that's around now.
Ratings fell by 2 whole points within 5 months. Buyrates halved by March and never recovered. It was game over after this shitfest of self-indulget booking.
@aaronchristianneff Tony Schiavone told people about Foley way before the Fingerpoke of Doom....all the viewers who tuned out to see Foley win title switched back to Nitro to see the FPOD & the quarter hour ratings prove that fact. Stop jumping on the bandwagon IWC opinion plauged with misconceptions.
This is the result of hogan and bischoff running the show, they are not good promoters at all, I mean look what they've done to TNA...oh I'm sorry I mean Impact.
this was the problem with WCW, they were so focused on beating WWE on ratings that they put thier biggest matches on NItro rather than a PPV. Hogan V Goldberg was on Nitro too, just stupid booking. The main problem was that the old stars like Hogan, Nash etc didn't want to step aside and let the young blood come through. We've seen it with WWE who have always had new talent pushing through like Edge, Orton, Cena.
@MohanAzad Where I agree that Hogan/Goldberg shoulda been built up for a PPV, rather than have it announced a few days earlier on Thunder then happening a Nitro 4 days later, WWF did the same thing as well. They both had plenty of PPV quality main events on Raw and Nitro. Thats just the way it was then. Hell, WWF had Foley win the title on this same night!!
@tjlambert28 HAHAHAHA, are you joking? Vince Russo has been TNA writer over 5 years and its getting so bad.. WWE storylines are not that good always, but way much better than TNA ones
@moneysuccesslegacy No way. They either have lame(gay?) dick jokes during the attitude era or lame contrived jokes during the current era. Hall and Nash were all real because WCW pretty much did nothing to stop them, They didn't need fireworks or lame x crotch chops to put them over.
@Macca1969 Shawn Michaels was the main guy in the 90's. Triple H was the main guy in the 2000's. Hall or Nash couldn't do that. DX didn't have Hogan's heel turn to make the stable more interesting. The Wolfpac eventually became stale. They let everybody in!! DX was exclusive.
@moneysuccesslegacy That's BS dude. When Shawn was champ was when Hall and Nash went to WCW. That was one of the lowest times during the WWF. People were tuning in to see Razor and Diesel on WCW and not HBK. Plus Hall and Nash made Hogan relevant again with his heel turn. But people liked Hall and Nash more than Hogan. You're wrong because the 90s was about the NWO and not HBK. He got injured by 1997 anyways. HHH would be nothing without what Nash taught him anyways.
@Macca1969 HBK and HHH kept the WWF afloat. When Hogan went to WWE, he had to beg Vince to keep the wolfpac around. Nash could never do what Triple H did as a heel. Nash could never do what HHH did at WM 27. Shawn Michaels MADE and CARRIED Diesel and Razor. Hall was never in a main event without Nash.
@moneysuccesslegacy If Hogan begged to have Hall and Nash around, doesn't that speak volumes about them? HHH and HBK may have kept it afloat but they never beat Hall and Nash in ratings. People wanted to see them and not DX. HHH is a boring heel and an even boring wrestler he only got ahead because of what Nash taught him in politics and that he has some Charisma. HBK may have made Diesel but he did NOT make Razor. Razor was more popular before HBK and they both came to fame themselves.
@Macca1969 Hogan wanted the original nWo. That was a much better entrance than either of the three entering alone.(i.e. Diesel, Royal Rumble '11) The final version of DX beat Hall and Nash in ratings every night DX went out. Triple H was the backbone heel for all the main players when Austin was gone. That version of DX reigned when you had a stale red, black and white nWo. HBK was a main event, WWF title holder. Hall never was.
@InternetAesHole Who cares if DX lasted longer than NWO. That lame rehash in the 2000s doesn't count. It was watered down crap for kids. My point was that NWO with Hall and Nash were kicking WWF and DX's ass in 97. WWF had some of it's lowest ratings in 97 when Shawn was champ because NWO and Hall and Nash were too popular for them to do anythingIt wasn't until Stone cold and not DX that WWF started winning the ratings war. All you've done was tell me wrong and call me a bitch. You're a fool lol.
@InternetAesHole Who cares if DX lasted longer than NWO. The rehash in the 2000s was so lame it hardly counts. In 97 NWO was spanking WWF and DX in the ratings war. 97 was one of the lowest points in the WWF history and that was when Shawn was champ and DX was in it's prime. WWF didn't start making a comeback until Stone Cold. It had nothing to do with Shawn or DX. All you've proven is that you are an internet tough guy(typical) who has a small penis lol.
@Macca1969 LOL, NWO lasted about a year and a half before the WWF/E came storming back in 98' to kick their and eventually put that shitty company out of business.
@NATIVExAssassin Yep. I was just comparing The Outsiders to DX. As the Kliq, no one is cooler than them. I wish that WWE would have done a Kliq faction with the four of them and X-Pac

HONESTLY I dont see whats wrong with "The Fingerpoke of Doom", seein as how its the nWo this is actually typical of them. No different then when Triple H beat Shawn Michaels for the European Championship in 1997, that was typical DX shit.
@TASKABoykindJack The difference is that the DX thing was for a tertiary title that really was never important at all. This was for the fucking WCW World Title, and Hogan/Nash was, as I understand it, something the fans had been clamoring for for a long long time. The crowd was RED hot for this. The DX thing was pretty clearly goofy pretty quickly, whereas the nWo factions had feuded for what, a year?
If you don't see the difference there then I can't help you.
If this was WWE, it'd be obvious an anticipated match like this wasn't gonna be given away on free television, because they're smart enough to put it on PPV. But WCW already did it with Hogan-Goldberg, so it didn't seem odd they'd give away another dream match on TV.
@hitman2010 That's the first time I've heard Nash blasted for his entrance. Usually, you hear how he killed the company, was a horrible worker, etc, etc. At least you had something original to bash him for. lol
Everyone talks shit about the FingerPoke being the down fall of WCW....but really to me...the end of nWo in any-way shape or form (besides Russo forming the nWo 2000) was the down-fall of WCW....nobody could accept the nWo/WCW story-line was over and that was a huge part of WCW's down-fall......this was GOLDEN...People got soooo pissed about being ripped off with this...where if this happened with any wrestler in any wrestling assocation today, no-one would even care.
@upside15 "People got soooo pissed about being ripped off with this..."
...that they slowly started to finally decide nothing was ever gonna change and it wasn't worth watching this show anymore. By this point the nWo literally took over the entire program. It *was* the program in the eyes of the fans that stayed after this. It *was* the program in the eyes of the fans that bailed after this. When the end of one storyline is literally the downfall of your promotion, that's a huge internal fail.

The fact that hogan comes out with jeans on and a T-Shirt kinda lets you know that he's not even going to wrestle. WCW always had these dumb angles that cost them in the end. They should have had more wrestling and a little less drama. This could have been an amazing match. Why the heck was hogan even in the wolfpac! makes no sense!
@heyheyhey00011 while it's incredible that WCW drew 39,000 for this Nitro, this venue can hold over 70,000 at full capacity. Also, even during the wrestling's peak popularity, on average WCW didn't draw even close to WWE then or today, in a time where wrestling in general is not as popular. There was a RAW at the Gerogia Dome that did 35,000 and both WCW and WWE broke 40,000 once for weekly shows. WCW could only do this in Georgia and their overall PPV attendance was less than half of the WWF's.
i remember this night clearly. i had goosebumps all over from not only hall and nash reuniting but the thought of FINALLY seeing Nash vs Hogan. those goosebumps quickley went away after the finger poke.
Hey this is from Jan.4th right? LOL look it is lets hope Jan.4th is better then it was Ten or nine years Years ago Oh and if u didn't know Jan.4th 2010 is WWE vs TNA Monday Night War
Oh man thanks for that info. If either TNA or WWE shows on that day are half as good as this one was or the WWF one was back then it'll be a good night then.
True, 40000 plus is great for Nitro, but I am willing to bet at least 70% of that crowd didn't pay. Even though WCW did beat the WWE/F in the ratings for a while they never sold out arena's that much all you had to do was go on there website or call some 1-800 number on the site give them your adress and ticket came in the mail in about a week. I know b/c I went to several events: Nitro, Thunder, and a few PPV's.
That's exactly what i'm hoping for, right now WWE is medicore at best. I'm really hoping TNA and WWE start a ratings war like this and it brings the best out of both companies. Although the 1st hour of TNA is the best matches of 09, which is stupid i think.
If that happens, i'll be like wtf it didn't work 10 years ago and it won't work now. Chances are though people won't remember this though since the majoirty of fans now are dumb and can't remember what happened 10 minutes ago.
I remember this, Raw was over and Nitro was still on so i watched this. I was like WTF. Geez i can't believe those crowds back then though. Two great main events on two shows though with this one, i know it sucked but what the hell. And the other one with Foley vs Rock. Man i miss those days.
It sucks that a fellow nWo fan has to be such a one sided close minded tool and not appreciate the awesome ness of another KILIQ stable that made its own waves in the WWF back when wrestling was actually cool.
And as far as the spray paint goes, that was probably a decision made by the incredibly asinine and incompetent failed Hollywood writers who now write for the wwe.. In a sorry attempt to sell the former badassedness of the original dx they had them spray paint shit backstage which was kind of lame.
Had they spray painted the backs of their oppnents after laying them out, THEN you would have an argument,
Nobody is a bigger nWo mark than me, But I unlike you am not biased against either way. When the decision was made that HHH would join with HBK after summerslam 97 and form a group, management suggested getting rid of the snob gimmick and going with something more real , so the character HHH did in late 97 was entirely his own,. Not a rip off from anyone,
Sorry you narrow minded cocksucker but sun glasses and jeans have been done long before 1996.
It was such a well done swerve. From Nash saying that he did not deserve his win against Goldberg and him giving Bill a rematch. To Goldberg being detained. This event freeing Nash tofight Hogan. To Hogan saying it may be his last match since he wants to become president. Everybody thinks it's going to be a throwaway unimportant match. To Hall and Nash appearing together after feuding for months. Then the finger-poke of Doom. The Goldberg comes in, clean house. Luger turns. So many stuff...
Who would think that this was going to be a unimportant match? I remember watching the build up to the match and being excited ass hell that Nash and Hogan were about to fight.
Because the way it was set up. Hogan was retiring to become president and the perception was "since I have free time tonight, i'm gonna have this filler match just for fun". It wasn't this big championship match. Anyway for people watching tv.
Fans as you know it's getting close to the 11 o'clock hour. We're going to stay right here. We're going to follow all the action as long as it takes. [End video]

SamuraiFoochs 1 year ago 5
If this was WWE, it'd be obvious an anticipated match like this wasn't gonna be given away on free television, because they're smart enough to put it on PPV. But WCW already did it with Hogan-Goldberg, so it didn't seem odd they'd give away another dream match on TV.

This was the end of WCW. The storyline ended here, and after this Time Warner screwed over Bischoff and ruined WCW.

@hitman2010 That's the first time I've heard Nash blasted for his entrance. Usually, you hear how he killed the company, was a horrible worker, etc, etc. At least you had something original to bash him for. lol

god wcw was so fucking stupid back then. even their entrance announcers were just rambling like drunks
seriously, how is Kevin Nash a "citizen of the world?" jeezus christ makes no sense

Everyone talks shit about the FingerPoke being the down fall of WCW....but really to me...the end of nWo in any-way shape or form (besides Russo forming the nWo 2000) was the down-fall of WCW....nobody could accept the nWo/WCW story-line was over and that was a huge part of WCW's down-fall......this was GOLDEN...People got soooo pissed about being ripped off with this...where if this happened with any wrestler in any wrestling assocation today, no-one would even care.
upside15 1 year ago 2

Rippedtoshredds23 2 years ago
The finger poke was kinda dumb. But not as dumb as giving David Arquette the belt.
Also Michael Buffer was the man. hard to describe but when you were at the arena it was awesome.

the good old days. i vividly remember this nitro and the nitro when goldberg beat hogan for the title.
it was awsome just watching in the tele and there won't another weekly wrestling show that can put over 40000 ppl.
heyheyhey00011 2 years ago 27
@heyheyhey00011
GOOD OLE DAYS??? THIS WAS THE BLACKEST DAY IN WCW
KingOfRock8887 1 year ago
@heyheyhey00011 while it's incredible that WCW drew 39,000 for this Nitro, this venue can hold over 70,000 at full capacity. Also, even during the wrestling's peak popularity, on average WCW didn't draw even close to WWE then or today, in a time where wrestling in general is not as popular. There was a RAW at the Gerogia Dome that did 35,000 and both WCW and WWE broke 40,000 once for weekly shows. WCW could only do this in Georgia and their overall PPV attendance was less than half of the WWF's.
EWAShock 1 year ago
i remember this night clearly. i had goosebumps all over from not only hall and nash reuniting but the thought of FINALLY seeing Nash vs Hogan. those goosebumps quickley went away after the finger poke.

Hey this is from Jan.4th right? LOL look it is lets hope Jan.4th is better then it was Ten or nine years Years ago Oh and if u didn't know Jan.4th 2010 is WWE vs TNA Monday Night War
shremar 2 years ago
Oh man thanks for that info. If either TNA or WWE shows on that day are half as good as this one was or the WWF one was back then it'll be a good night then.

shremar 2 years ago 2
wow. 40000plus for a nitro. that's amazing. that georgia dome was a great venue for nitro.
heyheyhey00011 2 years ago
True, 40000 plus is great for Nitro, but I am willing to bet at least 70% of that crowd didn't pay. Even though WCW did beat the WWE/F in the ratings for a while they never sold out arena's that much all you had to do was go on there website or call some 1-800 number on the site give them your adress and ticket came in the mail in about a week. I know b/c I went to several events: Nitro, Thunder, and a few PPV's.

and to imagine TNA choses this historic nite to go 1-1 with WWE (even if for 1 nite only)
hope TNA pulls thier act together and delivers a show like turning point 2009
thechokinghazard 2 years ago 2
That's exactly what i'm hoping for, right now WWE is medicore at best. I'm really hoping TNA and WWE start a ratings war like this and it brings the best out of both companies. Although the 1st hour of TNA is the best matches of 09, which is stupid i think.

i still remember the goosebumps i got when hall came and reunited with nash
loso24 2 years ago
I remember this, Raw was over and Nitro was still on so i watched this. I was like WTF. Geez i can't believe those crowds back then though. Two great main events on two shows though with this one, i know it sucked but what the hell. And the other one with Foley vs Rock. Man i miss those days.

in his streets did they really think nash and hogan were gonna go a half an hour or something

if you cant see the huge difference in styles between dx and nWo than you fail at utilizing logic and reason beyond all comprehensible belief.

It sucks that a fellow nWo fan has to be such a one sided close minded tool and not appreciate the awesome ness of another KILIQ stable that made its own waves in the WWF back when wrestling was actually cool.
scoresman69er 2 years ago
And as far as the spray paint goes, that was probably a decision made by the incredibly asinine and incompetent failed Hollywood writers who now write for the wwe.. In a sorry attempt to sell the former badassedness of the original dx they had them spray paint shit backstage which was kind of lame.
Had they spray painted the backs of their oppnents after laying them out, THEN you would have an argument,
scoresman69er 2 years ago
Nobody is a bigger nWo mark than me, But I unlike you am not biased against either way. When the decision was made that HHH would join with HBK after summerslam 97 and form a group, management suggested getting rid of the snob gimmick and going with something more real , so the character HHH did in late 97 was entirely his own,. Not a rip off from anyone,
Sorry you narrow minded cocksucker but sun glasses and jeans have been done long before 1996.
scoresman69er 2 years ago
It was such a well done swerve. From Nash saying that he did not deserve his win against Goldberg and him giving Bill a rematch. To Goldberg being detained. This event freeing Nash tofight Hogan. To Hogan saying it may be his last match since he wants to become president. Everybody thinks it's going to be a throwaway unimportant match. To Hall and Nash appearing together after feuding for months. Then the finger-poke of Doom. The Goldberg comes in, clean house. Luger turns. So many stuff...
skinwalkerxxx 2 years ago 3
Who would think that this was going to be a unimportant match? I remember watching the build up to the match and being excited ass hell that Nash and Hogan were about to fight.
TheoHuxtable07 2 years ago
Because the way it was set up. Hogan was retiring to become president and the perception was "since I have free time tonight, i'm gonna have this filler match just for fun". It wasn't this big championship match. Anyway for people watching tv.
