What I don't understand is the fact that the Captain kept everybody calm and saved many lives for sure and doesn't even get any recognition! I mean these pilots that land planes in emergency's get loads of recognition (and so they should, they deserve it) so why doesn't the Captain? He kept the ship moving, he dealt with it in the most amazing way and he gets nothing! I just don't get it!!
Anyone who is going to sit there at their computer screen and make judgements about anyone involved in this fire, GET A GRIP!!
U have NO idea what its like to be a crew member in this situation, i do.....i am one!!
U have NO idea of the ins and outs of safety at sea, so until you do, SHH!!. And to the moron who says 'carnival cut corners'...u do realize the ship has to be approved by many different organisations before it is deemed safe to sail..no, u dont...so stop pretending u know it all!
@wamswarrior There was a smoky smell to our clothes and there was a fine layer of soot covering everything but nothing was damaged. Clothes were dry cleaned (cruise liner paid for the cleaning) but we didn't lose anything.
Well you guys really want to get into this the fire started because of a teens party they wanted to see if the light drinks if they still burn in the water. Check out the Smoke on the water Fire in the star notice how all the crew are running in the hall ways but walking near the people to keep them calm. I also just have shit luck because the hotel they sent us to guess what happened to that CAUGHT FUCKING FIRE. might make a slide show on all of this a friend of ars lost about 80k in diomonds.
That is your opinion...Princess has had more than one large fire...your vessels do seem accident prone. Being run and operated by Carnival I do feel you probably cut corners so I do not cruise with you..Carnival gives the appearance of running a very cheap operation...ie "The Booze Ships"..
I am going on this ship from seattle to alaska on June 26. I am going to be in the area where the fire happend. I feel bad for the guy who died onboard but this proves why smoking and not caring what you do with the cigarette has a cost. Thank you for posting this video. Must have gotten a nice wake up call.
I am honoured to say that I was an Officer (Cruise Staff) on board when this happened. I've never been so proud of anybody i've worked with as i was that night (7 long hours in muster stations). Thanks to our captain Tony as well.
Princess seems to have inherited the disnction of the line with fires as the French Line was. I've seen other videos of this incident where crew was taking elevators as were passengers, not exactly smart in a fire of any kind. Judging from the number of videos of incidents on Princess you guys seem to be very accident prone. I also the Pool Deck scene of the Crown Princess accident and to be frank I wasn't impressed with the crew running ahead of passengers when the tilt began.
I am going on the star princess on February the 19th for a south america and antarctica cruise. I knew about the fire before hand and read loads and loads of stuff about just how excellent the crew were in dealing with it. I am amazed they got it put out. one life is obviously one too many...but so many more could have died if it wasnt for the crew.
The old man that died, died from smoke inhalation. I heard that someone walked out of their cabin and saw a man passed out on the floor being attended to. It's so sad to think about it, and yes i was on this cruise. But, the Star Princess has an awesome staff.
I was on that ship.i met a girl and she must have been about 9 or 10 years old and she lost EVERYTHING in the fire cause her cabin was so close to the fire! And i was on that same side as the fire to! When we where walking to the muster station i could see embers FLYING off the side of the boat. That was the scariest thing that has ever happened in my LIFE! And it happened at 3:00am.If u think this wasnt scary...try being on the ship! Thanks for the video!
i was on it when it happened. Muster station for 11 hours. 1 dead of heart attack, 11 smoke innilation, 140 something cabins burned. intense heat all over ship, top deck almost collapsed, very scary moment in my life. Might i add I'm just a kid and I had to through this.
Look at my comment above. But to sum it, 1 dead of heart attack, 11 smoke inhalation, and who knows how many people on board that were affected emotionally
All ships should stress strongly about smoking, the vortex effect means it is very likely for a cigerrete to be blown back into the ship through a window or balcony on all ships.
The fire looks very intense and scary. You must be quite close to the fire. I remember when I heard about this on the news I only saw the burning remanants of it but never saw the video.

Well i feel safe on the ship anyway

I would not..Carnival is the worst at cutting corners and I feel passenger safety is by no means a priority for them.

The crew and staff really did a great job in handling this as it could have easily been the new Morro Castle disaster.

The ship didn't have the right safety equipment. It was low on fire suppression systems
