Over there, it doesn't matter who sang a song originally. If it's a certified hit or a beautiful popular song, and if you are vocally capable of singing it, they would sing it to entertain their audience, because the audience wants to hear it sang live.

I definitely get it, but you don't obviously. Originality can still be present when covering other artists music. It's called making it their own. Half the world doesn't even know that the original singer of Whitney's 'I Will Always Love You' is by Dolly Parton. Regine just duplicates Mariah Carey's performances. Which shows no originality. It could have been a tribute to her admiration for MC, but she has had 5+ imitated performances.
