  • yay MN

  • How does the ESP Predator compare to a Innova Star Destroyer for speed, and how wide is the rim?

  • @kozmon0t doesn't compare at all. much slower, much more stable. It's basically the same disc as a firebird, only better.

  • Yeah its not anhyzer throws, those kids don't know what they're talking about.

  • isn't anhyzer when the face of the disc is toward you when the disc leaves the hands? when they throw they have the outside edge pointed down. i thought the disc was turning right because of the stability of the disc. Even when you throw an overstable disc you can get it to turn right if you have a fast enough arm like these guys

  • @Lthies91 you can negative-fade an overstable disc even with a weak arm. Not that the power even comes from the arm.

It's mostly a matter of angle of attack, the angle it's tilted up relative to the direction it's going. Every disc has a "zero fade" AOA where it will fly straight. Throw below that AOA and it will fade negative, above and it fades positive.

If you release hyzer with a low AOA, it also precesses around to anhyzer quicker than hyzer with a high AOA.

  • @Lthies91 some are anny's some hyzers. because it's hard to see the angle of the disc on release the best way to tell is by looking at the plane of the shoulders on release and the follow through of the arm. When throwing a hyzer the chest leans forward and the shoulders are more parallel with the ground. Upon release the arm follows through towards the sky. Anhyzers are essentially the opposite.

  • anybody know why they were all throwing anhiezer?

  • @bd36576 the reason they are throwing anhyzers is because anhyzers have the most distance because they tend to glide more than hazers which normally fade to quickly

  • @bd36576

They are all throwing the anhyzer, because that's how you get the disc to do the nice s pattern on the throw to get max distance. All discs will naturally want to hyzer at the end, so if you throw it on the anhyzer with good spin on the disc it will go left, flatten out, fade to the right again, then at the very end go left and flatten out and drop.

  • @bd36576 it gets more glide and goes farther

  • i play with paul's brother in showlow and he also is really good!!!!

  • I can't seem to get past 350 feet on my best drive i made a video of me driving in slow motion its on my page its called "brian couple of fun days in slow motion disc golf" if u guys can watch and tell me what i could do better be great thanks

  • I agree with the advice about powerlifting.

  • the front of my heman boxers alway get alittle wet on the way to play discgolf cause i love it so much

  • Do you think these guys are using understable or overstable drivers or both?

  • @CatsTasteDelicious The video states what each person throws. Watch this part 8:30

  • @CatsTasteDelicious

They show you what discs they are using before they throw. Robbie throws the ESP Predator. It has a stability rating of 2.5. So, very overstable. I think a couple of the other guys were throwing Surge's of some sort. They have ratings of 1.5 or 1.6 which is overstable. The Flash ESP has a rating of 1.5, overstable. FLX Avenger is 1.8, overstable. The Surge 150 is 0.5, which is barely overstable. Pulse ESP is 1.8

  • Not saying this is a necessity in the sport of disc golf, but any sport you do can be enhanced with powerlifting. Distance, accuracy, pretty much anything in disc golf can be improved by a few power cleans here and there =D.

  • The guy at :6 just cracks me up

  • disc high rocks

  • i was wondering if you sponser kids im 11 and can through averege around 215ft i have a very accurate forehand drive and i have a constent putt of around 15 to 20 ft

  • I remember my first drive.

  • it sucks that toboggan is only open for like 3 months outta the year

  • @bigstopowens try 2 and a half weeks. 3 monthes would be amazing

  • i play in a lot of wooded courses what do i do to make it go far but straight?

  • @Cramp213 Practice practice. Have to sacrifice some speed / distance for good fairway drives.

  • @Cramp213 Well, you can use a disc that is less stable if you want a straighter drive. Or you can use a stable disc and put more snap on it, this will cause the disc to ride the wind a bit before it turns over. A couple of these guys in the video have some nasty snap.

  • @Cramp213 I find that a stand still is easier to control than a throw with a run up. Definately sacrifices distance, but goes very straight.

  • @Cramp213 Keep your front shoulder down. That will keep the disc down and flat. If you're playing in tight wooded courses, you don't want the disc raising and hitting branches. Even in an open course, elevation kills distance. Like they said in the video, smooth and clean, nice follow through will generate power.

  • I play in the Atlanta area. Lets see some distance shots on heavily wooded holes.

  • @Dsplayname same out here in Seattle area....i concur

  • go minnesota!

  • good video uncle mark! Hope I see you guys soon, and I would love to play with you sometime with all the rest of the cousins. Maybe this summer!?!

By the way, this is Jeremy.

  • Well go Minnesota!

  • Dude needs a hair cut.

  • Hello, I am a teenager looking to start a petition or something to get my high school to make frolfing a school sport. Just wondering if there is any body out there that agrees with me if so thumbs up this comment and send me a message.

  • @ZzPaNIIkzZ there's a high school league in the Santa Cruz, Ca area. May want to talk to them to see what it took to get it going.

  • @Doublehawk2L2Q thank you

  • @ZzPaNIIkzZ that would be sick. Im out of highschool but i think that would be a great idea because it solidify the sport that much more. There has to be a teacher that would coach and then you would eventually need schools to compete with but that would be awesome. idk where you live but in california there is definitely enough courses.

  • @ZzPaNIIkzZ my school has one, but we only play tourneys in our city, or just go as a group and chill.

  • @ZzPaNIIkzZ first suggestion: maybe don't call it "frolfing" when you take it to the board. lol Disc Golf sounds much less.... Frolfy. They may be more inclined to consider your request if they hear the word "Golf" is involved.

In any case I'm assuming it would have to be a club sport, meaning your school would give you a letter if you were to find or create a league for high school teams to compete, but they sure wouldnt pay for it. If there arent any leagues in your area, Start One! :)

  • I am 80 do you think I can throw as far as these guys some day?

  • @yetibiker08 Yes, whatever you set your mind to man!

  • that is some good distance for a Pred!

  • my drives have a tendancy to catch the wind and either sail back towards the tee or hyzer waay of the fairway for back hand, my forehands do the same but turn over and become crazy rollers. any tips?

  • @cjd891 yeah throw flat straight across ur body dont release high and tilted, also get a decent disc. dont throw trash. i dont know ur style of discs but try to start with something stable.

  • @H1shman This is fairly simplified, but basically forehand will get you more distance now, backhand will take longer to learn but you should steadily get more and more distance year after year as you improve. Having both shots can be really helpful, but I'd start by working on only one. Also, backhanding is a lot easier on your body, I know some guys who have blown out shoulders and elbows with big sidearm shots.

  • O.o these guys are beast- I wish I was this cool.

  • The ppl who dislike this vid because they can't throw that far,i know i can't,yet.

  • the ONLY reason im here is because they have this game on the playstation move and i Dont understand why more people dont know about this sport

  • @AdnanCucak I've seen people play it but when I decided to throw a disc, I got hooked. You got to try it. Nothing like being outdoors and throwing a piece of plastic/rubber around lol!

  • I would like to see a newer version of this video

  • Backhand has potential for more distance but I think most beginners can throw forehand for distance easier. learn a good backhand for distance. learn both- see what works for you. if you can throw both well that is a big advantage.

  • props to pulling on a predator like that.

  • i been playing for ten years and i can shoot bout 350 feet doing it sidearm the pros r so amazing to watch them shoot is crazy i love this sport try to play everyday

  • mark ellis should narrate movie trailers

  • Awesome sport, I'm hooked! Great vid too.

  • Discraft should redo that video with HD-Slomo-Cams from different angles. That would be awsome!

  • yea, surge was my max d driver till the nuke came out, would be interesting to see them throw that fo sho!

  • You gotta remember too that the hole plays way uphill. The top of the hill is marked 500 but plays almost 600 probably. On flat ground those guys hit 600 a lot probably.

  • can they touch the 400 foot drive I throw consistently? practically hole in oned a Par 5 with that drive boys

  • @Nydardodus

These guys top your 400 foot drives 100 feet before theirs even land. And a 400 foot par 5? Whoever came up with that hole should rethink the pars.

  • @Nydardodus Robbie Bratten threw 564' at the USDGC Long Drive competition, finishing 3rd, so yea I think they can handle your 400 foot drive.....

  • @Nydardodus Christian Sandstrom threw 820' in a long distance drive comp. . 400 foot isn't that impressive most people that play can drive around or over 400'. I'm nowhere near pro level and I can sidearm over 400'. So really quit comparing yourself to pros.

  • @GodMara Comparing yourself to pro is just a real let down to yourself i think. because if you keep doing it you're always going to short yourself.

  • @GodMara When do you ever NEED to throw 800 ft heh

  • @GodMara That 820' through was at Big D in the Desert in 2002, 3000 feet above sea level and with 25 mph winds. The best I've ever heard of on flat ground with no wind is just over 600'.

  • Robbie Bratten, I swear this is the guy that dated my neighbor for a while. First person I ever went disk golfing with. Nice job going pro man! Thats pretty cool. Makes me want to go out and play more often. I have been playin out at bridgelands lately. Makes me want to play more now. I think the place he took me was called Agnes Moffitt Park. I know he practiced this sport a whole lot!

  • these guys have great form and the last guy in the video looks like a ballista launching that disc! the centrifugal force he creates and the way he spins on his back foot is impressive. i like the background music as well. does anybody know who does the music?

  • Discraft > Innova

  • @MATTx602 its all about preference

  • Kensington Toboggan. Milford, MI. Site of the am nats every year.

  • 6:08 he has the hat on, 6:09 the hat is off, 6:10 the hat is back on! Amazing disc golf skills as well as hat tricks. What a combo!

  • where in michigan is this?

  • @obtom1331 Its near brighton at a metropark called Kenzington, sadly this is the toboggan course and is only up 2 months of the year for the pro tournys

  • that was all shot before the NUKE came on scene, I wanna see a new vid with them hucking the nuke!! 40666

  • i just bought one of those!

  • These guys would probably turn a nuke into an anhyzer disc.

  • @varnov12804 I do and im 14

  • the kid gets torque, diggs in, gets a great pull off 4 big D and slides off the front of the pad around 6:28. i like how he's crankin a pre-dator 4 BIG D

i'll bet that kid craks discs on wooded courses???

    great vid thanks

  • I just started playing today, 20 minutes in and I lost my driver in a pond. So, went and picked up 2 more, a distance driver and a fairway driver...with that said. I'm finding the sidearm throw much easier and more accurate than I thought it would be and I've gotten more distance out of it than my "power" backhand. The longest hole where I was is 430 feet and my best backhand was just over halfway while my best sidearm was probably two-thirds of the way, hoping to get more accuracy and distance.

  • a lot of people throw better forehand. although its better to know how to do both throws because your going to need both of them to be able to get over certain obstacles. what do you throw?

  • these dudes are sick, I need to step my game up

  • not anyone can bomb a disc 150 meters accurately

  • its all about the putts. anyone can bomb a disc.

  • one of those guys has the exact same a's hat that i have on right now

  • I started three days ago and have played everyday it's so fun and inexpensive conpAred to reg golf

  • when ever i get my swing around when spin to release it always does a sort of a really slow anhyzer, is that normal or to be expected? i do it about with every disc

  • Disc might be too light but a slight or even great anhyzer is how you generate serious distance. Virtually all of these guys are throwing anhyzers to some degree. Getting the disc to fade straight as possible gets distance.

  • I play this soundtrack every time I drive.

  • lol

  • i just had a 10 dollar distance competition with the 2009 worlds 19 and under champion Nageeb Laborde. were both 16. I bombed 520 ft but that fool threw 550! I was like wtf?!?

  • lol I wish I could bomb my discs that far, will have to keep practicing and see what happens.

  • Im 16 and I use discraft (surgess and avengerss). I use the 4 finger pro power gri(2 fingers tucked in and 2 fingers flat) I can drive 300- 320 on a perfect throw. When I to do my run up, shuold I do a fast walk or a rapid run?

  • when learning, focus on getting your footwork solid. after you have it down, then go faster and faster until you're running/skipping at the end of the tee. you know you're going too fast if you start to lose your balance on the release.

  • im also 16 and i can bomb a disc out there lol now i sound like a prick but i do it at about a jog/run with an X-step but 9 out of 10 times 350+ is all you need although when i started it was on a course where if you drove you through 400+ and if it was under it was a super annoying putt but good luck with your style just go alone one day and play around with your stuff

  • I am a strong forehand thrower and just tore my rotator cuff. Used to be 3rd baseman, pretty sure my form is correct. You can tear just about anything with enough wear.

  • Now you must be careful with a thumber or tomahawk throw because that can do damage to your rotator cuff as those particular throws put stress on your shoulder as well as rotator cuff. I am a forearm dominate thrower and use a thumber and tomahawk quite often as well and I can generate power with each so I would recommend it.

  • How do you tear a rotor cuff from sidearm drives? You can throw just as easy and as far sidearm with proper form and with much less effort if done properly......

  • You can step out after the release

  • Just about every throw they show in this video is illegal, against PDGA rules because when you drive, you aren't allowed to step off the end of the tee pad.

  • The stepping off after release above is correct. Also, it is arbitrary to note whether it is illegal or not because this is simply an instructional video on technique, not tournament rules. Barsby (appears in this video) just won masters, one shot was a roller ace. These guys know what they're doing.

  • how do you roll one in for an Ace? I'd like to see that one.

  • He could have been playing on a course that used tonal poles instead of baskets.

  • flying.... flying... rolling... rolling some more... hits a root and bounces... flying... ching!

Never seen it done but it's certainly possible. I did see somebody skip off the ground for a birdy though, it was sick.

  • it actually kinda hopped in the basket by hitting a mound of dirt right in front of it. you can read the story at discrafts website. Barsby beat Doss by one stroke in a round in which Doss scored his own ace.

  • No one cares, people are interested in form.

  • ESP Surge rocks!

  • They all used backhand. Is there an advantage? I usually use side arm and that works.

  • Sidearm is ok when you are starting. I threw all sidearm my first year. However, in terms of what is going to get you the most distance if you work at it, it is definitely backhand. I throw primarily all backhand now except for shots that I could use the sidearms fade on. Not to mention, sidearm is more damaging to your elbow and most elbow injuries happen do to excessive side arm throwing. Backhand will also be much more accurate when you work at it too.

  • agree with about everything you just said. Learning to throw both ways is good beacuse you can get the disc to fade right OR left at the end.

  • if u can get a tomahawk down, thats also a very good tech and works somewhat well im midrange shots with lots of obstacles

  • Agreed. I have a torn rotator cuff from driving sidearm. I would not recommend it for power drives.

  • To throw that far would you want a lighter disc or a heavy disc ?

    im just curious

  • You will throw your lighter discs farther than the heavier ones.

  • lighter discs with tailwind.

  • If you want to throw as far as these guys --- heavy disc. That might not mean that you personally can throw a heavier one farther, but generally heavier discs (174-175g) are the way to go for long distance.

  • Disc Golf is the all-time best sport. I wish my high school had a team. I can tommy, and sidearm. My backhand needs work though. I want to become a professional disc golfer when i get out of school.

  • i love playing disc golf. i live about an hour and half away from here its an amazing place to watch people play here.

  • I love it as well, i live right across from an amazing course in Montana

  • lol the last guy, right when he lets go of the disc, it looks like he gets shot in the shoulder.

  • Oh yeah? well.. i played for the first time yesterday, and my drive was...

    terrible.

That's why i'm watchin the video...

Those of you showing off on youtube.. really should think about spending your time elsewhere...

  • first technique owns!

  • its all the same. last year i had :( .... lost it a beutiful force that i could get a nice stright line about 430... i throw about 20-30 feet further now, and im throwing the new boss at the same level as the force, both good results... also these guys have cannons ive seen critter play and he can put it past 500... what he maxs i dono but ive seen a good 500 out of him

  • what is generally better innova or discraft?

  • Comment removed

  • The types of plastic you can choose from are very similar in performance and durability in both cases. And when it comes to discs and shapes it, In my opinion, all comes down to choice, what works for you and ALOT of psycology ;)

Both Disccraft and Innova make awesome discs.

  • i personally think it depends on your own preference...i throw discrafts and innovas...

    :p

  • im 14 and i can throw a disc 400 accurate

  • Comment removed

  • when it´s summer i train about four hours every day.

  • It is ice on the course now but I will try to make an movie with my form when it´s better wether conditions here.

  • good use of ur time

  • This whole I can throw (insert ridiculous distance) and Im howeverteen years old is funny. I've been playing for 8 years and Im a pretty decent disc golfer and I struggle throwing 450. I know theres some freaks out there but if you're throwing that far and you're that young why are you watching a clinic video to improve your drives that are longer than the dudes in the video throw? Like I said, its funny.

  • Hello from the Baltic-Sea Discgolf Club in Kellenhusen/Germany

    it´s Birdie time ;)

  • nice socks!

  • Who am I?

    "I'm 10 and I can throw like 1320 ft."

Enough of the tooting your own horn already!!

  • The best part of the Discraft clinic videos are the raging crunchy riffs at the beginning.

  • i wish my disc stores would sell discraft discs, but for some reason everything is innova. innova is good, but i would really like to try dicraft.

  • You've obviously got internet, why not buy discs from an online store?

  • san leandro mf chabot park what!?

  • I am no pro but I love the new Force. The flash is my main disc but tends to go left(I throw sidearm drives after a broken wrist}but the force is strong with slight right fade.Love the glide.

  • My best distance is 576ft and im 14 y/o but generally I throw like 400-450 ft

  • prove it

  • my roommates younger brother just turned 15, and he can throw a 500, not very accurate though. he averages 400.

i can throw a 550 backhand but not accurate. i drive sidearm avg around 450

  • robbie bratten kicks it.

so aptly named for someone who is gonna school ya on the course.

  • I'm so happy. I'm 16 and I've been playing for 1 year and yesterday I measured one of my throws at a football field and it was 480'! I'll post a video as soon as I can.

  • I would believe you, except that wouldn't work without 2 football fields lined up together..... football fields are only 300' genius

  • Football Fields are actually like 390' because of the endzone

  • 360.

The field is 100 yds with the end zones each 10 yds deep. 3 ft per yard x 120 yds = 360 ft.

  • yeah i play in ohio. belmont has a nice course as well as kettering.

  • YYYYESSSS!! Ive hit little over 350 ft in Streamwood Il.

  • yea go michigan!!

  • Cale, so hot right now

  • who cares, ive only played once and my first drive went so far im still waiting for it to land!!1111

  • for some reason i throw SO much father, straighter and more controlled/accurate by throwing forehand rather than backhand. Strange aye?

  • I find that it's a ton easier to put arm into a forehand than a backhand. With a backhand you need a lot of technique--its a total body wind up, turn and release, which takes a lot of practice. A forehand requires no real form to be effective. You can just stand stationary and wing the thing really far.

  • yeah all newbe's do, there is a reason anybody who is any good drives backhand though, you will hit a wall that can only be passed by learning to throw like a man...

  • ... not necessarily. i just won top gun long drive contest in ohio. there were quite a few players too. i predominantly throw forehand for distance unless i feel more comfortable on certain holes w/ bh. sorry but me having long history in baseball and still playing, sidearm is much easier. i think as a player i should probably develop both. but i guess thats just a mans opinion.

just cuz u cant do it right like some people, dont mean its wrong.

  • I've played for 5 days and i can max at 250

  • big deal ive been playing for 5 hours and can throw 800ft

  • I can throw 8 kilometers with my putter!

  • Dudes, when I throw I have to get Air Traffic Control clearance!

  • o ya, when i throw i have to get clearance from NASA. beat that

  • ive played for 2 weeks and can only get it around 230 feet on a max drive. what you said sounds unlikely

  • i doubt that, maybe inches, not feet. post a vid to back your claim.

  • For all you long bombers that just like throwing hard, check out a game called Guts Frisbee. YouTube it.

  • no thanks, I like throwing discs not jumping in front of them.

  • i understand, i hope to go to the world distance championships soon.

  • Listen for the audible flick in Robbie Bratten's throw at 7:36... That's amazing! I can't throw that far, but I max around 420-430'...

  • foot fault.

  • I'm just starting playing, but I was wondering why none of the players use the Destroyer? Is the speed of the disc a good comparison for the distance a player should drive?

  • they are on the discraft team and the destroyer is an innova disc (they only use dicraft), but that disc should work great for your drives.

  • thanks for the help

  • that would be a temp. cource in michigan, milford michigan kensington park, that is an easy hole for the course!!!! but this hole is alot uphill, this isnt the hole that normally shows off distance to well, i have a 420-450 max distance drive and i probuly fell short of these guys by 70ft plus, and what they went past me is all uphill, ive played with critter before and have seen him throw bombs i am surprised to see his get out thrown by that much, truly impressive

  • does anybody know where this course is it looks bitchin

  • Kensington Metropark is near Brighton, Michigan. Think US-23 and I-96. This particular course is only installed for a few weeks in June each year for the US Amateur Disc Golf Championship and sometimes the Great Lakes Open

  • I think one very good way to improve your throw is to record yourself on a video and then compare your slow motion to a slow motion of these guys. Pay attention to timing and shoulder I'd say...

  • Yeah, Robbie made that pred look real overstable ;)

  • hahaha. i know. it never even started to come back...
