Long story short, Rosie's contract was not extended and she was being too pushy for the producer. So he wanted her off and egged on Elizabeth to go after Rosie and argue every point Rosie had and to not defend Rosie at all.

Rosie got called a terrorist sympathizer by FAUX NEWS and Elisabeth would not defend her due to Bill Geddie's influence. Rosie confronted Elisabeth about if she agreed with Fox News that Rosie was a terrorist sympathizer (She isn't).

So in short, it was a set up to get rid of Rosie and to keep Elisabeth on the show. From what I understand, Bill really hates doing the show because he wants pure Right Wing panelists.
