Youtube always blows my mind with its negativity- this is really, really amazing work. To all the morons with snarky, misspelled idiotic comments... what have you done?
I would love to jam with this wooden buddy. Seems like he's a friendly guy. And preparing the lunch with him would be a real joy too. "Hey buddy-you cut the onions ok?" Errr...great work Mr. Averill!
Thank you all for your comments. It has been a fun ride. Considering what this project is (or isn't) I find comments like "creepy" and "7th grade drummer" to be compliments. For me it's just about creating something, if it turns out interesting to others, that's a cool bonus. SA
Hey! I think your project is just absolutelly AWESOME! Have you made all by yourself? Or is it result of some group of inventors work? I am giving you all thumbs up :) It is simple, yet working. I believe, that in some future versions, you'll be able to give him more "strenght" and ofc implement some dynamics in the play. Still, great job IMO!
So let me start by saying this is really cool. but there's gotta be a way to get everything a little more even.... maybe having it's own drumset completely connected to make calibrating distances easier or something. still really cool :) Sounds good enough to be a human beginner drummer, which I guess would be the first step!!
With RealDolls and robots patrolling the Korean Border, I think Spruce Deuce is a sign of the upcoming Singularity. Fortunately, he's playing Nord instead of Kurtzweil.
The only thing you should do differently is connect a servo directly to the bass drum. The foot setup isnt powerful enough to to fight the spring tension. Take his foot off and just directly connect it to the peddle. Other than that this is really cool.
@LoginsSuck123 I think every musician in the world has played at least with one another musician who sucks on what they do, whatever instrument they played...
Loosen up there,man.....lol...seriously, very cool project. Now if you could interface it with a midi capable drum module such as a Roland TD10 or a drum machine like a Yamaha RX7, that wold be incredible. I'd love to see it play some of the Roland's demo drum tracks via midi.!
that's fun.. I think if you work out a way to make the robot's hand more "flexible" it could be more "human"
Do you work with drummers?
(in my opinion another servo motor behind the "fulcrum point" of the drumstick, to simulate fingers, could fix the parasite rebound ... but it may be very difficult to configure/program)

Amazing work. What's especially impressive is that there's no reliance on pneumatics or "industrial" robotics hardware. I'd like to see more details about the design, construction, and MIDI sequencing.
He can drum, but will he blend?

Sadly the next morning Robot Drummer was found face down on the floor of his apartment, drowned in a thick puddle of imported servo lubricant.
Lindsay Lohan had been seen entering and leaving the apartment at various times the previous night. She is now being questioned by the police.
