Ive always been a GM guy, owned many vettes and several camaros and firebird formulas, for years gm reigned supreme out of the box and dominated the scene, If this mustang is anything close from what they describe and all in a package for under 40k, i might just have to have one in my garage come the end of this year. Now if only they went with a independent rear suspension.
I have been looking forward to the release of the 2012 Boss 302 Mustang for a while, and now that it's finally here, I'd really be interested in purchasing it... BUT NOT FOR ONE DIME OVER MSRP!
Why must dealerships take advantage of the low production numbers of these cars and fleece their customers? After an online inquiry, my local Ford dealer notified me that they are asking $10,000 over MSRP for the new Boss 302 Mustang, and that amount is non-negotiable. I told them to KISS MY ASS!
I absolutely love the Boss302, the best American sportscar in balancing power, grip, handling and responsiveness, for only $43K! However, while the front brakes are nice 14" brembos, the rears are pathetic 11.8" from a base V6. Id go brembos on all 4. Also, with almost no interior luxuries from the GT, why does it weigh 3600+lbs? 3200 is more suiting for the 302LS and 3500 for the 302. I guess Ford still left lots of aftermarket potential, but its great out of the box!
does the boss have a live rear axle.. and can someone tell me why they like the mustang so much better than the camaro besides the camaro being a lot heavier
you know I don't really care about anyones opinion. It's a damn nice car and it doesn't just go in a straight stupid line. Sorry got bored of drag racing shortly after puberty. Went to the ford site and this is not a straight track car it's a fun street car as well. The Mustang GT track pack kills the Camaro on a race course.. whats a supercharger going to accomplish on a curve?
the engine in the boss is going to be amazing 7500rpm redline is perfect, its light, durable, and almost has 100hp/L without sacrificing torque, the problem with the m3 is that you never get any power unless you drive it like you hate it all the time and that gets boring quick
I was a Chevy guy for a long time... That is, until I bought my first Ford a couple years ago. Now I won't buy anything else. One of the things that makes me REALLY appreciate Ford is how much power they are able to get out of their motors. I mean, the regular GT is putting out the same power as the Camaro but it's 1200cc's smaller! And thats always been the case. They don't rely on big displacement to get their power and I appreciate that. As is the case with my 4.6 3V mustang
@rbowman180 i love both, ford relies on DOHC engines which weigh more then OHV engines and get lower economy (example: z06 corvette 7L 505hp 15mpg city 24hwy and it has the best hp/weight ratio of any mass produced engine that i know of, its also very reliable and easy to fix) but the boss engine is amazing not because its the best power or hp/weight but because its a balance of all of these traits and the best value and is very durable and has a perfect redline and the list goes on
@NWpowerhouse85 The gt500 is still top dog! 550 hp and enough tq to pull down a house. Ford needed a car between the gt and the 500. And the boss will be a 2 year run, so why you would stop making the gt500?
@braddfordy No it isn't, the Boss 302 will be RATED at 440-----the damn GT is making that much in fact, and this car has ported heads, cams, a new manifold, basically a whole new induction system----even with a shitty base tune, it'll be at 500 horsepower, and with the second key that will be an option on the car? Plus, the GT500 still outweighs it by a few hundred pounds.
@NWpowerhouse85 the gt is not underated it gets more to the ground due to less drivetrain loss all of the 11 stangs seem underated. On a road course the boss will have something for the 500 but in the 1320 is all gt500. I have driven a 2010 gt500 and those are wicked and the 11s are better
@NWpowerhouse85 the tq curve the gt500 makes can not be overlooked! Pd blown are silly if you get traction right away you have full tq at 2500rpm and its flat and pulls like a freight train til redline. Maybe a roll the boss can put up a better race. Hopefully people will put them on the tracks and not just park them
Considering the original could barely get out of the 15's in the 1/4 (Super Stock got 14.75 after adjusting the floats and cooling the manifold with ice) I'd say 12.6 is damn good.
@cartzar well its because that car is the benchmark for the new boss.....they tried(and im my opinion, successfully surpassed the m3. I love the bimmer...always been a fan...BUT you can tell the ford team put in many extra hours to perfect the new boss.......

I've bashed Ford for so many years. Always frustrated when it came to American cars holding to antiquated methods in the 80's, while imports gained a foothold with MP injection, VVTI, dual overhead cam, innovative alloys, and tolerances that were three times as precise as domestics. I'm a GM Mastertech. Take it from me, if you owned a GM product with DOHC or a Duramax, it is an Isuzu or a Toyota. Northstar? poor copy of a 1UZ-FE. Corvettes...not for working men, this is! Way to go Ford! Go USA!

Haha well sorry but the Z28 will still beat the Boss 302? Now who knows around a track because we don't know the weight, suspension & all that. But performance wise its faster. Only vids we've seen of the Z28 is at Nurburgring & it looked to handle pretty dam good. We shall see once these two cars are on the showroom floors

@ghosti33t: Been a Mustang GT owner for years, and we had to complain for years before FMC finally got the clue, and put a stronger mill into the GT-level Mustang. Camaros and Firebirds were cleaning our clocks for a long time. Also owned a 1969 Firebird, which was a great car. Wish the new Camaro was better-looking, and also lighter. The motor is killer. Just can't get into the styling now, though... too angular. Drove a Challenger not long ago, it was a fun car, too.

I've been watching them improve and innovate at any cost since my first year of engineering (in my SAE journals). @trevinboy I don't think this is really supposed to compete with the Z28, this is almost strickly a track car. The Z28 will be a drag car, if we are going to compete with it we must bring back the Boss 429. Or maybe even use the 03-04 cobra as a concept, supercharge it. Right on though, Ford is bringing back the Golden Days.

At the Woodward dream cruise in detroit I met the head engineer for the boss he said it will do hi 12s in quarter mile and it's going to cost in between 30 to 50,000 he said he want to mak it affordable so ppl will by it, my name is already on the waiting list, props to ford :)

@krypekeeper Not to defend the guy but MM&FF did run a 12.35 with the '11 5.0 Mustang. Granted it did have Mickey Thompson ET Streets but 12.35 with only a tire swap is pretty good. With the stock tires they ran a 12.69 but they did say had they spent more time with the stock tires they could have done 12.5s.

Im pretty sure they were thinking about bringing the Cobra R back, but they decided this instead, its pretty much like the R, has great handling, better braking and increased horsepower without forced induction

Yeah the R would have been sick to bring back but the Challenger is back as well as the Camaro and its all retro style, so if the GT500 is back now why not bring the Boss with it. @fordatude actually the new v6 makes over 300hp without a supercharger. The only factory supercharged mustang for 2011 is the gt500 which probably uses the least sophisticated engine in the lineup. Hopefully ford updates it in the next few years.

Haha well sorry but the Z28 will still beat the Boss 302? Now who knows around a track because we don't know the weight, suspension & all that. But performance wise its faster. Only vids we've seen of the Z28 is at Nurburgring & it looked to handle pretty dam good. We shall see once these two cars are on the showroom floors

@ghosti33t: Been a Mustang GT owner for years, and we had to complain for years before FMC finally got the clue, and put a stronger mill into the GT-level Mustang. Camaros and Firebirds were cleaning our clocks for a long time. Also owned a 1969 Firebird, which was a great car. Wish the new Camaro was better-looking, and also lighter. The motor is killer. Just can't get into the styling now, though... too angular. Drove a Challenger not long ago, it was a fun car, too.

@trevinboy Ford is back. I almost don't care about Honda/Toyota/Nissan. I really really really want to be a part of Ford. I've been watching them improve and innovate at any cost since my first year of engineering (in my SAE journals). Ford is a SERIOUS force to contend with...Amercian government just has no idea what taking that bailout money and investing it into Ford could've done. Hydrogen power? Done. Pure electric? Done. Best hybrids? Done. MAN if only capitalists cared about innovation.

@trevinboy I don't think this is really supposed to compete with the Z28, this is almost strickly a track car. The Z28 will be a drag car, if we are going to compete with it we must bring back the Boss 429. Or maybe even use the 03-04 cobra as a concept, supercharge it. Right on though, Ford is bringing back the Golden Days.

At the Woodward dream cruise in detroit I met the head engineer for the boss he said it will do hi 12s in quarter mile and it's going to cost in between 30 to 50,000 he said he want to mak it affordable so ppl will by it, my name is already on the waiting list, props to ford :)

@krypekeeper Not to defend the guy but MM&FF did run a 12.35 with the '11 5.0 Mustang. Granted it did have Mickey Thompson ET Streets but 12.35 with only a tire swap is pretty good. With the stock tires they ran a 12.69 but they did say had they spent more time with the stock tires they could have done 12.5s.

Yeah the R would have been sick to bring back but the Challenger is back as well as the Camaro and its all retro style, so if the GT500 is back now why not bring the Boss with it. @fordatude actually the new v6 makes over 300hp without a supercharger. The only factory supercharged mustang for 2011 is the gt500 which probably uses the least sophisticated engine in the lineup. Hopefully ford updates it in the next few years.
