I just read the book and usually I don't like realistic books, but this book was so... waaw! If I have to read a book for school and talk about it, that I'm sure that I'm going to read 'The Horse Boy' again... I can't wait to see the movie!! And I wish you good luck with your wife, Rowan and Betsy. And ofcourse all the others you love. When I finished reading your book, I cried, because it's was zo perfect!! Good Luck!
Finally a realistic movie about autism. I grew up with a brother with autsim, and when I want to explain friends what autism actually is I used to refer to the Rainman, to give a marginal idea. I think this movie gives a great view on autism and on some great parents with a lot of patience. Believe me, people with autism are the most pure and lovely people I've ever met. They are honest and not keen on social rules. They do have a gift!
have read the book and after seeing this video I can't stop crying.
My son is also diagnosted with PDD-NOS. Although his problems aren't as bad as Rowan had. To me my wonderful, beautiful and most of all loving child is so open, always has been. But in Rowan I can see the struggle my child must feel on the inside, in the world outside our home, were he has not that connection that he has with me.
My chosen name is Snowhawk.... do I need to say more?
Thank you for doing this. I found (reading now) the book while on a trip & it's a powerful story. I know the broad band of "Autism" covers a wide swath of issues. Your son had some similarities to ours in autism & other area. My wife has raise & trained horses for much of her life prior to RA. I grew up on a Farm. We all now live near Houston. For a time we had a pony & mule but unfortunatly he seemed to loose intrest & the current trend is Thomas.
...Can we possibly imagine what it must be like to be a newly expressed infinite soul .. wild and free .. suddenly contained within a tiny physical body . .
Just finished reading "Horse Boy" and was completly in awe at the journey you made let alone with an autistic child and camera crew in tow!! looking forward to seeing the movie.
and i hope and pray that Rowan is still free from the negative sides of autism and you and Kristin can enjoy being parents and also a couple.
Good luck with your horse therapy project and give Betsy a carrot from me! :-)
Im in the middle of reading the horse boy book!! very emotional and very adventurous!! you and your wife kristin obviously want the best for your boy!!!! cant wait for this film to be released!!!!
I wonder how my horses would behave with autistic children.
