  • It's nice to see you move so much during your performance. My flute professor tell me not to move so much =/

  • this is so beautiful! :')

  • this piece is just so amazing

the piano and flute were like meant for each other here.

    but the flute sounds gorgeous.

    Nina, you're amazing.

i want to buy this piece >.<

  • Nina -- thanks for this lovely performance. I guess Pandora did something right, in a backwards way. I heard a violin version of this there -- love Copland but hadn't heard this piece at all. A google search led me to you. Beautiful.

  • I'm playing the first two movements of this piece for my all-state audition/nyssma this year! wish me luck ;)

  • Hello, I was just wondering if you had any tips or pointers that you could give me, I am playing this piece in nov/dec for my audition for the music dept at the university I attend, and if you could help in some small way that would be great.

  • Great job Nina! You really told a story with your sound. Not only do you have the tone and technique to pull it off, but you have the artistic expression and musicality to paint a picture. Awesome.

  • lovely...wonderful interpretation of Copland's intent...pure joy.

  • I once played this in high school. Such a long time ago.

  • @SPRoubi2020 i thought the exact same thing XD

  • This is breathtaking. Beautiful piece, beautiful playing.

  • Wow. This is music to soothe the savage beast. How gorgeous and inspiring.

  • If I ever choose to learn another instrument, its going to be the flute.

    Very nicely played!

  • Nina, I wonder what you think about the use of vibrato in the opening "flute alone" section. For me, I think of this as a really sort of folk melody. I almost think of playing on a wood flute with no vibrato. What would you think about a performer who plays this opening section with no vibrato?

  • irenic: I love this piece because it lends itself to many interpretations. I think it is lovely with or without vibrato.

  • @irenicflutist I love the way she plays. She use vibrato but with sense, she is not out of tune and the sound is good, so I think the vibrato is quite good. I prefer it with vibrato because if you play this part without vibrato it can be kind of dead, you have to create expectation.

  • Very nice! I just read in the Composer's Datebook that the first performance of this duo was on today's date in 1971 so I looked it up to hear what they were talking about. Beautifully done!

  • lovely. :]

  • this is so wonderful :) Thank you for posting this.

  • wow! really nice! :)

  • beautiful sound....

  • Very nice

Thank you for the upscale art

  • wth? you're a loser

  • warum giehst du auf Scheisse Essen? bitte

  • BEAUTTIFULLLLLL

  • Great!you are number one in my heart! you are my teacher in the internet. sky

  • whoa your really good,

i can actually feel the music more than hear it!

    good job!

  • beautiful! i love this wonderful piece.

  • Please excuse the language here - but this is fucking amazing! Really beautiful - wow!

  • I've been working on this peice for a year now- it really isn't a solo and ensemble peice at all unless you have at least 8 months and an amazing super-teacher. It sounds easy, but the rhythms are actaully quite complex and the key signature is not consistent.

But if you're looking for a challenge you've found the song :-) I love it personally =D

    Beautiful recording :-)

  • Yay! A grade VI that sounds do-able!! I've been searching for a song that I can do at Solo Ensemble next year that I like and, quite possibly, can do. It's not been going well. However, I think I've found a winner!

  • really beautiful... that's really all i have to say... really... beautiful... :'D

  • I come to youtube almost every single day just to watch your videos Nina and I must say, they are soooooooo wonderful! I would give anything to be as good as you someday.

  • Hello Nina!! congratulation I do love the way you play the flute is very pro!!

My question is : How can I do tune up my flute ?

its sound is very bad !! I do know how to make it better!! can you let me know pls..!!?

  • She will probably, never ever going to respond to your question... You better check google.

  • ropossipierper: I am not sure what you mean by tune up your flute. I do not do flute repair. You will need to have a flute repair specialist check it for leaks and adjustments.

  • You can push in or pull out your mouth piece, better support, make your sure your mouth piece is aligned with your body, and can also adjust your embrochure. I don't think these are all the ways you can adjust your pitch. If you are asking how to tune your flute, then you should try these. If it is a technical issue, like Nina said, then you take it to a professional repairman and have him look for leaks in your keys or if anything needs to be tightened or loosened.

  • My goodness so gorgeous, sounds like it came from movie. Beautiful

  • you're amazing nina! thank you so much for sharing your talent with us!

  • wuts the song called so i cen play!

  • shes very good and 5\5

  • A beautiful recital. Lovely sound. Thanks!

  • oh wonderful^^

I'm a big fan of you I think...

(can I say ,,of you'' ?^^, don't know how to say in english that I like, what you're doing)

  • Dear DieJojo,

    it's "of yours".

But don't worry. I guess everybody caught the message.

By the way, I am also a big fan.

  • I had the supreme pleasure of accompanying thi piece when I was in college. You play absolutely beautifully. Well done!

  • I had not come across this piece before, but really enjoyed this performance. Very well filmed and recorded too.

  • oh wow, how do you play soo well???

  • practice? o.o

  • Wonderful tone !

  • nina-

this video is so inspiring! i am going to play the copland for my freshman recital before christmas break! I hope can bring as much inspiration to others with my performacne as you have!

    ~hlafnote07

  • Well now, who is your accompanist? Or would she prefer not to be named?

    Beautiful job. I love Copeland.

  • My wonderful pianist is Toni Sheffer. Her name is listed in the video description text. She is faculty at NKU.

  • omg u are amazing!!!

  • MUY BUENO

  • That's some wonderful music. I really loved it. I have been checking out a bunch of Copland lately.

  • oh my god ! i love you!

  • This is great ! I LOVE THIS PIECE !!! I'm a big modern music buff....so this made me happy....now I have to watch the last two movements ! - R

  • This is a really great composition. Do you know the name of the flautist that copland wrote the Duo for?

  • It was written in memory of William Kincaid as a commission by a group of his former students. It was premiered by Elaine Shaffer (flute) and Hephzibah Menuhin (piano).

  • i rather beatbox flute

  • beatbox??? this is classical it's beautiful not different like beatboxing

  • I got chills. That was /amazing/. I think you are truly a musician. How I know, when you play, I could feel true expressiveness and feelings that touches deep down into the heart and bones.

  • Thank you so much. It means a lot to me to share my music/expresssion/energy in this way.

  • awesome awesome awesome awsome awesome:)

  • i love your style!!! how long have u been playing?

  • Hi. You have been busy listening to my videos today! I have been playing more than 20 years!

  • you sound so good! do you teach somewhere? i am going to go to college for flute performance. Any suggestions? i am l;eaning toward YSU because katherine umble is there and she to is amazing. but do you have any fall backs? like other places? thanks.

  • i love this piece! I'm hoping to play it for my rectial next year. Thanks for posting this...it's amazing!!

  • That was one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard. I may only be a young musician, but I sure can tell when someone is truly talented and you are one of those people. I don't have much experience with Aaron Copland, but I sure do love his music. We played "The Promise of Living" in my band class temporarily, but decided it would take too long to learn for state concert festival. I was really sad. But this was truly... wow.

  • can i study with you?? lol

  • Actually, I am accepting new students privately and through NKU. For information, send me a message.

  • I like it very much. So calm and beautiful.

  • I love the whole of this piece!

  • Nina! This was absolutely beautiful! I really enjoyed this. Time froze for 6 minutes.

    Kind regards,

    Peo

  • wow! :D marvellous!

    cheers!

    Martín

  • Very nice, I like your way to play this music.

  • I am curious, is this Copland piece well known in Finland?

  • I can't tell you about the whole Finland, I'm not a finn at all, but let's say I know this piece quite well :). I played it several times, but a bit different from your version, a little bit calmer from beginning, not too much vibration, just imitation the bells, but then much faster from the number 6, more in sort of light jazz music. :)

  • Do you have a video of you playing this piece? I would like to hear it! The music lends itself to so many interpretations. I feel I play it differently every time.

  • Unfortunately I have no video version for sure, but I guess I had an audio recording, but quite sure about it. I'll check it out and let you know if I'll find it.

  • Haunting tone and brilliant interpretation.

  • WOW WOW, 5/5 of course!!! That is perfect and perfectly beautiful!

  • Thanks Nina, I enjoy the variety of music that you present. -Dennis
