@ry3304 Parrish was still putting up some great stats after Larry retired. The chief played 20 seasons and was 43 years old in his last season. Where will Bynum be at age 43? Parrish had that great spin move with or without Larry Bird. Parrish shot .544% in the 1993 playoffs at age 39(Bird was retired) and .545% in the 1995 playoffs at age 41.

It's a shame Dominique played on so many average to bad teams. He tried to will his team to a championship against one of the all time great teams and came up a little short, no shame in that. What competitors the NBA had back then. Zack Randolf reminds me of Bird only in the way neither of them are high jumpers but can still punish you offensively with great timing and moves.

@DownloadDoctor1 I TOTALLY DISSAGREE.When Nique came to the Hawks they were a renowned scrappy team and perrenial playoff squad.This was with some unique blue collar guys like Tom MacMillan and Stevie Hawes.WHEN NIQUE HIT TOWN....they became east division champion contenders overnight.It was amazing.Doc Rivers, Rory Sparrow, Dan Roundfield,Tree Rollins, and Nique were one of the best NBA squads ever assembled.The downfall was the outrageous reffing at Boston.Even the tv guys spoke about it.

@NameCallingIsWeak The season before Larry Bird was a Celtic(1978-1979) the Celtics finished 23-59. In Larry Birds rookie season (1979-1980) the Celtics finished 61-21 and that was without McHale and Parish. Bird shot for a better fg % ft % had more rebounds and assists in his career than Dominique. Bird averaged a double double for his career despite the fact that he played with a bad back and crooked finger for years. Go watch the YouTube video. When the game was ours.

Bird is an all time great, which is WHY he never played on a bad team. He joined a bad team, and it became great. Bird left that team, and I assume it became bad again. No question Bird makes a bad team great. Question is, though Dominique can clearly score, does he make his team better with assists and rebounds like Wilt, Russel, Bird ...

It got even worse.Looking back, Boston was a classic NBA superteam, but everybody knew there was no such thing as a celtic foul in the Garden. Watch that footage again and look for how many times Hawks players were abused with no call. I watched all that live, and even some celtic fans I knew felt bad about it. There was another game in playoff between these 2 where one scored like 63, and the other 50+. Dominique...NONIFIQUE! Wilkins mentored MJordan for several years.No credit. SAD.

@geocgeo HEY DUMBASS....these 2 teams were in playoffs against each other for 3 or 4 years.In fact, in head to head: Nique vs Bird, the only times Bird ever outscored Nique was in these few games. Wilkins was and is THE MOST OVERLOOKED PLAYER in the history of the NBA. Wanna know who agrees with me? Try LARRY BIRD, Robert Parish, Kevin MacHale, Dennis Johnson,Danny Ainge and KC JONES. Jones was very public about how good those hawks were and was reason for Doc Rivers in Boston today.

Wilkins was a great scorer and his shooting % should have been higher with all his dunks but Birds shooting % was still better. As in retrospect, I will argue the quality/caliper of the then celtics squad.They were on a level beyond anything today.They also had some issues:1982, Danny Ainge pulls a straightknife onTree Rollins in the Garden backhall.Im still like WTF? Ainge has since admitted it and made peace and thats good. BUT, why was a team that good resorting to that? Those hawks were a gutsy squad.

game 7 and tight fourth quarter with neither team budging. to respond like Bird (and Wilkins) did in the face of such pressure is incredible. Bird was 9/10 in the fourth quarter i think, had he been 8/10 or 7/10 (which still would have been a great quarter), Celtics probably lose the game...it was that close. without a doubt Bird is the greatest game 7 performer in NBA history (followed by Russell).

@jaboo82681 I agree. I was a kid when the Hawks beat the Celtics in game 5 at the Boston Garden, and all I was thinking was.....FINALLY, the Hawks have a chance to play in the Finals. When the Celtics won game 6 in Atlanta, and Larry Bird famously said "you guys had your chance".........I was SO pissed!! NOT at Larry Legend, but at the Hawks, because he was right!! Being a Hawks fan, that was the best team and the best shot they had, and what did they do the following year??
