This version of the Via resti servita duet didn't cut it for me. I like Marcelina to be a mezzo soprano who sounds "old" and "fat" (and is chubby or is wearing a fat suit). The duet really works it's hilarity with a very funny Marcelina, such as Felicity Palmer. Most Marcelinas are just serviceable. Nucci Condo & Ileana Contrubas look like sisters (with Condo being the older sis), they have similar hair/faces/skin.

I love this entire opera, but especially this scene. The "curtsy war" is hysterical! I'm actually playing Marcellina in a production next month. I want to play Cherubino the next time I do this, though. Such a difference!

Cotrubas is the bitchiest, cattiest Susanna that ever was, and I love her for it. Condo has a marvelous voice and plays her "older-woman-who-can't-quite-handle-this" role very well. A wonderful pleasure.
