  • My guess they are called different dialects for political reasons. In fact they are different languages..

  • @0vershade

Exactly, Han ethnic is joking ethnic . as I research Han ethnic has 9 languages and hundreds dialects

9 languages include : Mandarin, Cantonese, Wu (Shanghainese), Min ( Fukkienese), Gan, Xiang ( Hunananese), Jin, Hainanese,…go on…

Cantonese and Mandarin can compare with French and English language, they are different language

  • Oh my gosh no. No wonder it's so hard for me to understand any Cantonese. According to this guy, close to 70% of the stuff is different. That is an insane amount of difference.

  • Mandarin and Cantonese split from each other around 1,000 years ago, after migrations to the south of China by many speakers of Middle Chinese, the northern prestige dialect spoken by literati and the Imperial court. Some 800 years earlier, there was another major split into northern and southern dialects, around the time of the fall of the Han Dynasty, with the southern dialect evolving into Min and Wu, while the northern dialect became Middle Chinese (and eventually Mando, Canto & Hakka).

  • @criskity

this is not true because Cantonese language belong yue language. 1000 years assimilation of Han was cantonese strong influenced by Han language. But cantonese can keep base Properties of their yue language. Pronounciation and some Grammar differ from Han language.

There was never a geographic Isolation and culture change between middle chinese and Nord chinese. Also Hans in Guandong and Han in rest china. After Invasion of Han was Yue Territorim was nevermore apart from China.

  • @Regentroepfchen09 There are certain features like the development of the "f" sound in Canto and Mandarin that show them to be more closely related to each other than either language is to Min or Wu.

  • @criskity

Of course. But you have to know that mandarin and cantonese did not split because they do not have same root. You can not split something what did not belong together. :-).Bevor the invasion of Han was cantonese 100% yue. after invasion and 2000 years Assimilation has cantonese language maybe still 30% yue and 70% han (mandarin) . And the 30% Yue means different Pronunciation and little Grammar : -).

  • @criskity

The Chinese cut some very important Informations of the root of Cantonese because they are worry about the separatism. But it is not necessary. Because all Cantonese are hans now.

You have certainly the information from Wikipedia site which written by Han chinese. They try to fake the history and give you wrong informations.

Hakan people immigrated from Lake Baikal (south russia) to china 2000 year ago. They could keep their language, but strongly influenced by han language too.

  • MANDARIN FTW!!! :D

  • 呢位阿伯應該喺廣州人?國語講得咁正~

  • @yejia0217

    一听不是广州人啊。也不是北京人,大概是河北或者山东一带的人。

  • Some Infos for everyone who the dont know about china language and history.

Cantonese is a YUE language. YUE Poeople lived in South China and were conquered and assimilated by Han chinese since 2000 year ago. But they can keep some basic structur of language of YUE. For example: The pronounciation and some grammar structur.

Mandarin is a Han chinese Language and spoken by Han chinese. This is a root of the difference between them and Why only 60 millionen speak cantonese. The Han speak mandari

  • @Regentroepfchen09 Thank you for your bias and false information. Now perhaps you should study the history of Chinese languages from a real linguistic standpoint, rather than pull shit out from your behind.

  • @TaiGekTou

you talk like someone who is catched with pants down. haha. I know about "true" chinese history better then so. You just got chinese education that filled with lies. You dont know why the cantonese can not understand mandarin. But chinese stupid wikipedia says you that cantonese is a chinese dialect. But chinese stupid wikipedia can not say why there is so big difference between cantonese and mandarin. Pronounciation, tonal and grammar. chinese wiki is not science but propaganda !

  • @Regentroepfchen09 I think we may be having a misunderstanding here. Actually I do not argue against the fact that Cantonese and Mandarin are different, but I think it would be wrong to say that Mandarin was spoken by Han Chinese. Reason is modern Mandarin was developed by the Manchurians, not the Han, nor any Chinese from Ming Dynasty and before (except for the Mongol Yuan Dynasty, who probably started it all).

  • @TaiGekTou

that is something you have to know. Some chinese text of wikipedia is wrong and manipulated. They make it to cheat the world. When you read this text and think it is science. But i tell you it is just a fake.

Because the word "Mandarin" does not come from "Manchurie". The Language of Manchu differentiates from chinese language. When the manchus ruled china they influenced chinese language very strong but moderne Mandarin was definitily not developed by manchus. Even more

  • the manchu losed their language when they ruled china for 300 years.at last the Qing imperor spoken only chinese mandarin only.

You may not believe the chinese text of wikipedia. They are only fake and want to make the people stupid who dont know about language of east asia. This is typically chinese policy and propaganda .SOme copy this fake text and pass it

Mongols and manchu language dont have typically chinese language properties. They are not tonal language and have very different grammar.

  • @Regentroepfchen09 Thanks! What you have said make great sense. I am glad to hear someone speak with great intelligence here without being bias, but speak the truth from research and lots of reading. Thumbs up!

  • He's speaking mandarin, very easy to understand. Dunno where his accent would be from though.

  • which regional chinese is this guy speaking?

  • what is the first language the guy is speaking?

  • White subtitle against a white board....why bother having it?

  • @infinera06 i can read it

  • she she knee
