Although the message is partly right, I think that polling should be made to be totally irrelevant for many reasons the primary one being that polls are definitley skewed according to the mindset of the person doing the polling.

Polls may not necessarily denote what is right, or what is wrong, but they do infer what is right and wrong in the minds of the people that vote. & that is key. 1) The political right uses "big government" scare tactics to influence low-to-middle income people towards acting against their own best interests.
2) Government, via regulation, is the only mechanism with enough clout to hold entities within the free market to acceptable standards of conduct.

"Acceptable standards" in general. A good current example is the new legislation that's reining in questionable practices by issuers of credit cards. My point is that government is the only entity with the power to enforce those standards. But (maybe) you and (definitely) others consider that "socialist big government." And you're right: anyone who takes that attitude about a number of issues is a sucker in my book.

not really. the idea of socialism is quite good. especially under Lenin who wanted a small free market. There is a hierarchy in society in pay. Some people work hard and earn good money and deserve it. But indirectly they are positioned in a shit system, but the only flaw i have had with socialism is that you cant throw money at things to fix them. Yeah he thinks government should stop trying to influence and steer the markets, stop creating moral hazzard by allowing bankers a "Win you keep your money, Lose and tax payers will cover your loses" And thinks that they should bet back not allowing fraud in the system. The FBI was mostly pulled out of policing the financial sector and had their powers stripped. Ron Paul wasnt against that.

Big government is the problem and there has been ZERO of a free market!! If there was a free market all of the banks that played dangerously would of gone bankrupt and the 1000s of comunity banks that "kept their powder dry" would of expanded.
One of the main problems are all these "Big government" market solutions that drain trillions in tax and put many out of a job(Fannie etc)
Also the Monetary system is all wrong.There should be 100% reserve and no fait currency. All put forward by RP!

Why is it hat the polls for our last election were very accurate, and in fact the most scientific polls nailed the distribution of EVs? It annoys me to no end when people deny the science of statistics, caricature it into "how many guys said x who I met at random on the street" or even "if 56% say it, it's true". This is apologia for a failure of a candidate.
Luntz is a cheat and hack, but that shouldn't make us doubt polls outright anymore than we should doubt medicine because of homepaths.

8 of 10 said "no" when asked if the State budget should raise taxes.
But only 5 of 10 *of those same people* said "no" when asked if the State should raise school taxes.
Different questions; different results:
80% versus 50%.
