  • Hi, this is tom from "Decay is headed your way!" I like your video on the turnpike. Your commentary is great! I'm looking for someone to join with, especialy over the summer of 2012. Watch some of my videos and maybe we can get together and improve on everything we have so far. I'm up to over a 100 videos, but I know I can do better. Let me know. Thanks Tom Collins

  • Loved watching this! I want to see the zombie pit now. :D

  • @TammyLoves2Read Yeah, the graffiti worked out in our favor that time. Still wondering if our fire-pit / camp-site is going to still be intact if we ever re-visit it. Luckily that part of the tunnels takes a little bit more effort to get to, so it might.

If ever you ever have the opportunity to check it out, you should. If you used a bike like a normal person, you could easily knock it out in half a day or so depending on your level of exploring. You'll notice a lot more hiking it though!

  • What leads me to believe this is there is no ventilation shaft above the tunnel in the movie and the eastern portal of Ray's Hill tunnel doesn"t have it. Perhaps they removed it with CGI, I don't know.

Great video by the way. The best I have seen on the abandoned turnpike. I love the turnpike and have biked it many times.

  • It was the eastern portal of the Ray's Hill tunnel that was used for the cannibal truck scene in the move "The road" not Sideling Hill tunnel. The eastern portal of Ray's Hill doesn't have a ventilation shaft on top, That's why they chose to film it there.

  • @puft54cs Hmmm. Perhaps. I've seen claims for both. In fact I originally believed it was Ray's Hill as well because that's what most links claimed. However, after further searching I began to change my mind. What sealed it for me was seeing it in person. The restoration they did in pre-production stands out once you begin to look around. The large steel doors appeared new & the tunnel mouth had a fresh coat of cement colored paint (since covered with the new graffiti seen in the video.)

  • I'm open for debate on this, this could be interesting. I know this is kind of niche video, but does anyone out there want to weigh in? Either based on info you've found on the web or maybe your own trip out to the tunnels?

  • nice vid

  • @X8802 Thanks. Hopefully we'll have some new hiking / exploration videos up soon. Just weighing out where and when to go next. Next trip will probably be something more traditional (Virginia winter backpacking maybe), but a visit to Centralia, PA is certainly on the "spooky" list.

  • Nice video showing off the Abandoned PA Turnpike. Its one of the few videos that I found on youtube that shows off the entire abandoned section dispite a small section east of the Sideling Hill tunnel. Never been there but would like to walk it someday. Anyways Nice job and thanks for the cool video!

  • @sc12194 Thanks man. I saw there was alread a good handful of "snip-it" type vids, so I figured I'd go full feature in hopes that some (or at least one) of the more die-hard Abandoned Turnpike fans would get something out of it. Hope you make it someday! Fall is definitely great for the visuals. I also hear that summer is pretty nice because the temperature variance causes some bad ass fog to spew out of the tunnel mouths. Wish I had that for the Halloween trip!
