yeah, you won't have any problems getting around in Bern. I was there a few years ago and was really impressed at how easy it was to navigate the city. The people there are friendly and the city is of a decent size that you could walk most of old town on foot
There isn't a lot to see in Canada, but a lot to do. It's not an old country, so you don't have a lot of museums or old cities but the outdoors are amazing. Best skiing, snowboarding, hunting, camping, hiking, etc in the WORLD.
Swiss German, (Schweitzer Deutch) pronounced (Ban Dootch) in dialect is a most midieval language. Really nothing like the high German we are almost forced to learn in order to learn "the language." If you can master their language, you're good!
mate, its "Schweizer Deutsch",no t in Schweizer, but a "s" between c and h of Deutsch.its pronounced "Schwiizer Dütsch".its origins were celtic and german.zurich and basel are more influenced by german(ancient).Bern has more celtic in it as far as i know.
Yes, I know it's pronounced schweezer dootch, but since I lived in bern for seven years, I remember hearing Ban Dootch for schweezer dootch interchangeable.
either way, it's a very old language, rather hard to master, very Medieval in its origins.
I think you mean Berner Deutsch. There are many differen't dialects of Schweizer Deutsch, just like there are of Deutsch in general. People in Zurich speak differently from those in Bern, as they speak Zurich Deutsch and Berners speak Berner Deutsch and so forth.
@babaradio actually schwizer dütsch means all swiss dialects as a whole. their is no official schwizer dütsch language, the official language is german, the same german as they speak in germany. bärn dütsch is a german dialect. you won't learn schwizer dütsch in school because its not a language. Every language has its origins in its medieval past. so thats logical, for nearly everything in life an nothing special about schwizer dütsch. but bern's architecture is medieval.

Most is German for all the country.

bern itself is monolingual

I've been debating moving to Europe recently. Switzerland and Sweden look like great places.
If I do, I hope I can pick up on the languages quickly. :)
