I see a great benefit with this with peoples whos hads work too saves switching hands to mouse then back to keyboard. ... would take a lil getting used to though
The giration you do w the knee and the fore leg is really BAD and not ergonomic. Your idea is a ripoff of Hunter Digital's (much better) NoHands Mouse. I have used it and it has this great feeling to hover over the pedals and just to a slight movement w the ankle 360 degrees. You turn the tip of the foot inward and you girate your knee in: SUPER BAD. Still, kudos to you for trying and venturing down this path. The foot pedal is practically the only true solution to carpal tunnel syndrime.
Your cursor foot seems better than hunter's no hands mouse. Your clicking is still too big a movement. It will exhaust your foot. (mine are hurting now from Hunter's no foot mouse) The thing that's not good about your foot mouse is that the feet are together. People move in their chair all the time... they need to be seperate/self contained, so they can be placed anywhere.
The left foot has to make big movements for clicking. That prevents accidental clicking. But reducing the movements by half could be better.
To operate the mouse I have to sit in the right position, and place my feet on the footmouse, that is a problem. So you think two seperate pedals would be better? If the height is lowered a bit, and the pedals would be stable, that would be an improvement.
Actually, Hunter Digital's is much better ergonomically!!! You are suppose to do small joint movements and not twist anything like this guy is doing. The twisting can only hurt you eventually. Hunter Digital's makes your foot sit on the pedal and do ever a slight movement where you always line up the hip, the knee, the ankle and the tip of the foot. This pedal throws everything out of alignment! Good idea direction, no sense of ergonomics whatsoever, what a pity!
d792: after evaluating the HD foot mouse (fm) it seems to me that a self-build is the best option. This would be based on the design of your foot mouse.
I had the thought thst using the Natural Point smart-nav would make creating the mouse movement pedal much easier. This would be because there is no need to strip a laser mouse and position to fire onto the pedal. Rather, the smatnav laser will already fire out and just needs to be positioned on the floor
That seems easier to make, and I am sure it will work. But their Y-breakout cable is only for two switches?
The NaturalPoint is also capable of tilt and zoom, it would be nice to do that with feet also.
I like logitech, because the normal mouse driver can be used, and it will also work in linux. And perhaps a infrared locator (like NaturalPoint or the wii) is less accurate than a mouse because it is limited by the camera. However the NaturalPoint movies on YouTube look awesome.
I've quickly tried using a Gyromouse strapped to my right foot -- and it was easy to position the pointer with it.
However, a proper pedal with two degrees of freedom (as with d792's Footmouse) would still be required to support the foot.
Btw, for objective comments regarding the Hunter Digital NoHands mouse, the present thread should be used -- since they delete comments they don't like over there below their own video.
Thanks for your comment! So a gyro-mouse does the job. I guess we have our goal for a good footmouse: My construction with ball-bearing and hinge; a gyro-mouse connected to the right pedal; four buttons for the left panel (the third button for double-click, the fourth button for scrolling with right pedal).
I agree with the opinion on the hunter digital footmouse. I bought it a week ago for rsi in both hands. It won't perform fine movements but might allow net surfing etc. To my knowledge there isn't a product on the market like d792's.
There is still no existing product that is like this one. Perhaps with a gyroscopic mouse instead of an optical mouse it can be manufactured for a reasonable price.
Please click on "More info" and select the link in the text. The movie on my website has the sound in sync and there is some explanation.
Recently, I got myself a commercially available NoHands Mouse by Hunter Digital, because of beginning RSI problems. Unfortunately, the NoHands Mouse is by no means a viable alternative for a normal mouse, since the NoHands Mouse works like a joystick mouse: the more you deflect the actuator (here, the pedal, i.e. your foot), the faster (*not* the further!) the pointer goes. This type of control turns out to be very clumsy since it is identical to the IBM keyboard pointing stick.
If you can't use your hands at all, the NoHands Mouse could be a makeshift though.
However, if a joystick or pointing stick would be a viable alternative to a normal mouse, lots of people would use it on their desktops. From the fact that almost nobody uses such input devices if they aren't absolutely forced to, it can be seen that the "force-into-speed" type of control - that is used by the Hunter NoHands Mouse - is not suitable for precise and fast mouse pointer control.
The foot mouse prototype shown here as built by d792 however is much better than the Hunter NoHands Mouse, since it uses the "angle-into-distance" type of control instead of the clumsy "force-into-speed" type of control which is used by the NoHands Mouse.
Therefore, I can't recommend the NoHands Mouse by Hunter Digital for anyone who is looking for a productive replacement for a normal mouse.
This is my first prototype, and I use it for some years now. I haven't made any other footmouse since it is working just fine. But you can make your own....
i love building and modding but i thinks its a lil over my head but my quesion is why did you make it are u missing an arm? or fingers or just made it for fun
I have neck problems. Even a trackball right in front of me (in the middle) is still a problem. So I came up with a footmouse that is better than the ones than can be bought. If you read the whole text with this video (click "more"), you can read some more explanation and some drawings.
dude thats the gratest idea ever !!! now ppl with no hands can so something on computers !!!!! nice work ill report u to logitech tech group... nice job my friend
Je kunt tog ook een muis op de grond doen en met je voet de muis besturen

Add toe keys, and I'm sold. I would love to get more articulate with my toes.
lol
Now, I know it would be a bit more suitable for people with monkey toes, but its not like I have board members to worry about. ;)
Stay awesome, and keep on playing.

Most people are saying this is pointless.... but no one realizes how useful this could be to someone without use of their hands....

Yes, you are so right. I can use my hands, but not for long due to neck problems. And this footmouse helped me a lot for many years.

@wowitskevin Yes, and those who think it is pointless don't know how fortunate they are. Unlike many people, I do hope they learn the hard way.

@kenholmz Ignorance IS the hard way... let it go, Why get spiteful for shit you can't solve? Its all good though, I get that way sometimes.
